  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

I just finished AC3 - and I hate the ending.

Absolutely loath it. Go to Hell Ubisoft...

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if eventually we find out everything we did as Desmond was yet another jerking, that we discover it was all just some other shmuck using a newer animus to relive what Desmond did - basically some inception-level bullshit.

I dunno, I just... I feel like all the games have been a complete waste now, one giant circle jerk leading up to an eventual massive cockblocking.

But then that's what I ought to expect I suppose from a team who's head guy thinks that The Sengoku Era & World War 2 are "boring" settings - I'll concede the unoriginal point, but boring? Hardly. If they want to keep it in America for another game, the Civil War would be really interesting. POSSIBLY the Spanish-American war, but not as much I feel.

Out of the next 3 ideas they're tossing around, I'm hoping for Imperial China the most, though Revolutionary Russia isn't bad either. Just, not India. Really not stoked for that at all (Ancient Greece would be a lot more interesting, particularly if the Assassin is a Spartan). The Roman Empire might have been OK, had we not gotten 3 games in Italy already (different period I know but still.)

    Ending Spoilers

EDIT: Goddamn the Credits are STILL rolling, it's been like 15 minutes now wtf...

My local Gamestop got the Wii U kiosk in.

First off, I gotta say that Nintendo really made a nice kiosk that puts the 360 and PS3 ones to shame. Nice big HDTV on this one and while I didn't really guesstimate the size, it notably bigger than what Sony and MS offer.

Downer was that the only playable demo was Rayman Legends, but it was a good demo. The Wii U Gamepad felt nice and comfy and Legends made for an excellent demo of everything that could be done with the controller. I was surprised how small the controller seemed, but it felt comfortable and sturdy. The screen images were also fairly nice and crisp and the images saw no lag.

The demo had you playing some kinda viking girl with red hair and a mischevious grin and this was controlled in standard Rayman platform style. You went about hacking up enemies with her axe, jumping and collecting Lums. The second half of the level you played as this ugly green sprite that guides Rayman through a firey dungeon. As the spirte, its your job is to use the touchscreen to pop firely eyeballs, cut ropes, move platforms all so Rayman can move freely -and you also tickle lumbering behemoths so Rayman can beat them up.

So i had a pretty good time with that demo. The folks at Ubi Soft clearly put their hearts into it and their faitn in the controller and the result was a very nice looking game that can be played a few fun ways. The second half of the demo really felt like training for the game's co-operative mode, but it still managed to pour on the charm all the same.

the rest of the kiosk was just video or image stills of upcoming games. I have to say SMBU looks gorgeous if nothing else and I'm loving the backgrounds I'm seeing. Online streaming didn't quite do it justice, but then, that's my crappy laptop talking probably.

Wish I could have had the cash to spare for a Wii U, but then, I think I can wait til March when more of the games and Monster Hunter are out. I just hope the Wii U stays in steady supply by that point

OK so once again, Konami managed to fuck up yet another HD collection.

Not only does the ZoE collection run at half the frame rate of the original PS2 copies (WTF KONAMI?!) but the 360 version has slightly worse modeling - there's some loss of detail/blurring and the colors are a bit more faded. That doesn't surprise me too much, as I'd imagine a game made for PS2 would be easier to restore on PS3 than 360 but still - why do they keep screwing these up?!

I was pissed off when I found about all the issues with the Silent Hill collection (and thus didn't buy it) but oh no, it didn't stop there - they had to screw up the one I was really psyched for most. Well, maybe I can snag a copy of each game for cheap off Ebay or something.

EDIT: Also just wanted to point out that Halo 4 seems to be getting rave reviews across the board - Come on GotY >.>b

Turns out it isn't an HD collection, but an upscaled one. There's really no point on getting it if you already have ZOE and Anubis for the PS2, specially considering the ultra crappy new opening the Eureka guys made for the game.

Such a long wait for nothing, but at least Triangular Frontier seems to be better than expected and should arrive in a week or so along with Xillia.

the ZoE "HD" collection is a fine example of why I do not bother with those and just get the originals......and yeah OMG, I can not wait for the WII U, have mine fully payed off and will be rocking some Mario and Zombi U on the 18th ;p

There are good HD remasters and Bluepoint generally does a fantastic job with each one they touch. Sony, MS and Nintendo all seem to handle their HD remakes with care as well. As I said, its only Ubi Soft and Konami where this seems to be somewhat of a dodgy endeavor because they don't seem to care about preserving their IPs so much as exploiting them for a quick and easy dollar.

As for the Wii U, I was going to miss out of a few games I'd really have liked to play this month and the next if I got the console - mostly 3DS stuff, eShop stuff, Halo 4 and The Walking Dead retail release in early December. I also have a gut feeling we'll be seeing another Skyrim expansion soon so its just as well I wait. Would have had to pass on Dishonored as well and given how much I ended up loving the game I'm glad I didn't pass on it.

Its not like Nintendo need smy day one buys. Paper Mario will do for now.

Yeah, the GoW is probably one of the best out there - and they have a new one coming that will also include GoW 3 and the PSP games.

Konami... just doesn't seem to quite know wtf they're doing anymore. Why they chose to redo the voice overs for the SH collection is beyond me.

Back to Halo 4 though, I am seriously stoked. Check out the Destructoid Review:

Yeah, I'm pretty excited to get my hands on Halo 4. While I never go around to 2 and 3, I just watched the cutscene digests this week and just watched all of Foward Unto Dawn as well. That actually was a pleasant surprise and the episodes back-to-back make for what is practically a feature-length movie. I've always respected how MS worked with the Halo fan community rather than shit on them like so many companies usually do, that 343 and MS pitched into help was a big plus.

I'm pretty interested to see how it fares against Black Ops 2. I'd actually like to see Halo reclaim its crown, at least on Xbox. One thing I do know is the fans of Halo are much more passionate about everything Halo is while it really just feels like CoD fans are there to because its a thing to buy.

I still plan to get around to Halo 3, ODST, Halo Wars, and Reach at some point, but for now I'll just concern myself with Halo 4.

                    ----

Finished Code of Princess. I thought it was OK overall and pretty funny, but aside from that and the music, its not much of a keeper, so its looking like trade-in fodder for Paper Mario come Sunday or Monday. Sadly it never quite got over the framerate stutter that it started out with, either.

Downloading Liberation Maiden now. I've been hearing good things about it, though its not nearly as over top as a Grasshopper/Suda game usually is.

As would I, it's been a long time coming and if Destructoid is anywhere close to right, it may very well take the crown back.

They've made a lot of significant changes while keeping that makes the game Halo. I'm especially glad that they finally decided to change it so getting shot doesn't force you out of zoom anymore - I HATED that.

3 was OK, ODST was kinda crappy to be honest (though it has the best music score of the series IMO) and Halo Wars was quite fun - easily the best console RTS ever made. Reach... was garbage. It's MP was great, but the campaign was just an atrocious retcon job that's been dismissed by everyone who's read the books. And even if you haven't, the acting and the script was all just awful. Great music and visuals, and cool mechanics, but just crap story writing (and level design).

I'm still trapped in Minecraft. I swear, the creator of ComputerCraft created that mod just to eat my free time.

At least I can add Lua to my resumé now.

Well this is my third time trying to play Skyrim on PC.... and I honestly do not know why I can not get into it, I have been playing it off and on the past two days, and got as far as I ever have. but... *shrugs* I need to get it for XB360 so I can make myself play it in its "vanilla" form.... having it on PC lets me give in to way to many mod temptations.

I love RPGs I love the idea of open worlds (beat Fallout 3) but for some reason Elder Scrolls 3/4/5 I never really played much of, heck I have the game of the year editions of both 3 and 4 on XBOX and 360 -.- so I guess I will wait for the GotY for 5 on 360 and buy it, then place it on my shelf and never touch it like the other two ;p

In my case I tend to get overwhelmed by all the things you can do, and if I try to remake characters too often end up repeating the same starting things over and over so I start feeling stuck even though the world is so big. That happened to me with Oblivion once I started modding, every time I got a new mod I wanted to start over and over and over again. XD

Which is why in Skyrim I did a few things different, first I only played one character for the first 300 hours regardless of mods, then started over once again once I had all the mods I wanted (only to have BBQ call my character an emo-vampire ) Second, I only had 5 save files instead of the gazillion I had in Oblivion. Third, I mostly quick saved until I got to a town or something before saving, that way I wouldn't back track too often. And fourth and most important, I stopped using fast travel. You wouldn't believe how much the world changed for me once I didn't skip the journey from point A to point B and all the nice (and nasty) things I bumped into playing this way. Mods like Occupy Skyrim are pretty awesome for this, but even only vanilla HD textures (like Serious HD) work pretty awesome.

                            So yeah, I'm over 400 hours into the game and I haven't even started with Dawnguard with my second character or gotten my expansion house going <_<;

                              Halo 4.... is the shit.

Like, absolutely f'ing stellar. LOVE the heavy references to the novels, it's about goddamned time they started keeping the story more close together and put in a proper narrative.

Loving the Forerunner weapons as well, omg they are so badass. The Sniper is ridiculous, it's like a gigantic rifle version of the Predator's little shoulder gun - by which I mean you get the cool 3 red lasers that lock onto your target. Yes, this gun is so goddamned OP that it ACTUALLY TRACKS AND LOCKS ONTO YOUR TARGET'S HEAD FOR A SNIPE!

Which explains why it can only chamber 2 shots per... Battery? Magazine? Whatever, and has very limited ammo overall. The scattershot is still my favorite of the bunch so far, out of what I've gotten to pick up. I really like the new Sentry armor ability as well. The animation is a little weird, but it's so handy having the little guy floating there popping shots at enemies.

Oh, and the new control scheme is great as well.

There's a couple of bugs with the menus though - like when I went to install Infinity (Multiplayer) it asked me to pop in disc 2, but still reverted to the dashboard when I opened the tray which is odd - games aren't supposed to do that when you're given an in-game prompt. Also, partying is a pain in the ass - for whatever stupid reason, the in-game options to group up don't work. It kept saying ALL my friends were joinable, but the moment I tried to join them or vice versa, it didn't work - the icon immediately flashed to unjoinable. Had to do it the old fashioned way through the xbox menu.

Again, these aren't major issues, just annoying stuff that really should have been polished and squared away for launch.

Also, Born Stellar doesn't quite look how the books described him
