    Sure you are.

And they even broke their promise of making Leon's segments more like classic RE...
I never heard Capcom make such a claim on the web or in print, so how did this reach your ears. In fact, they were quite upfront in saying they were moving away from the horror elements because they don't test well with the demographic that enjoyed RE5. Those of us that went in looking for survival horror were just doing so to see if they had made some effort to try. Or at the very least, tried to bring it back to RE4 level of gloomy atmosphere and narrow corridors. Its a good action game, but a far cry from anything prior to RE5.

it's just more of RE5, but with *worse* controls and by far the worst 3rd person camera I have ever seen.
Options menu- the menu isn't as intuitive as it could be, but every possible control option you could want is found in it. Once you're sorted there it pretty much plays like any third person cover shooter on the market, just situated oddly at the right side rather than the left.[/QUOTE]

Also, they've got two Ace Attorney games and two MonHun games in the pipes, plus future DLC on Dragon's Dogma is planned to be free. Capcom is turning around, albeit slowly.

Last night I decided to try out Torchlight since I acquired it via the Humble Bundle.

Next thing I knew three hours had passed and I hadn't even noticed.

That game is absurdly good at sucking you in. Granted I rerolled about six times before finally settling on Alchemist, but seriously it's a good game. I know its by a lot of the same people who did Diablo 2, but holy crap does it show. Heck even the town music sounds like it was lifted straight out of D2. I do like the more colorful tones to the game though. Dark and drab worked for D2, but Torchlight's vibrant palette makes all the fireballs, lightning bolts and imps that much more enjoyable.

If there had to be one gripe, it would be that the skill bar doesn't have enough buttons for me to equip all the skills I want. 2 slots for potions, 4 slots for spells and you're already down to four slots left before you even start picking class skills. Seems like it could use some tuning, or at least hot-keys for health and mana potions.

This is probably going to lead to me picking up Torchlight 2 later.

        Review: Resident Evil 6 -Destructoid

        Destructoid - 3
        IGN - 7.9
        Joystiq - 5
        Gamespot - 4.5

So yeah. A rental, if even that.

Kotaku didn't have their review up yet, but they did have a glowing review for Pokemon B/W2.

Hey, at least RE6 proves RE5 was good for something besides beer coasters. Devil May Cry 2 was getting lonely on that beer coaster thing. I was considering buying a used copy of it just to have a dual DVD case.

The World Ends With You Solo Remix on iOS has kept me entertained pretty well over the last month.

And Cid let me know if you get Torchlight 2. Would be nice to have someone to play it with.

                  LOL!

I'm actually having a hard time deciding which game offended me worse - The RE6 demo, or ORC - because both are just god awful on so many levels. At least DMC 2 was playable, if poorly written/designed.

They didn't need to reboot DMC (and they didn't need to add Nero either) RE on the other hand, is in bad need of a reboot. I was kinda hoping that's what 6 would be after Wesker finally died.

I miss survival horror damn it. It's a damning scar on the genre (as opposed to a testament to how good the game is unfortunately; and it IS still a great game just...) that Silent Hill 2 is still the epitome of Survival Horror. There have been some nifty budget games here & there like Amnesia, but no real blockbuster horror games since SH2. There just hasn't been a really scary game that totally fucked with my mind the entire time like that game did. Dead Space at least is still scary & atmospheric, and has an interesting narrative, but it still lacks that crucial psychological aspect that so defined the early games in the genre.

Someone on The Escapist forums put it rather well, more or less saying that they're just catering to the kids these days - because crap like CoD sells and cheap jump scares are simpler to do than trying to establish any sort of real mind trip for the player - something that doesn't just scare the piss out of you, but leaves you wondering just WTF is going on the entire time.

                  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

The jump scares in RE6 aren't even really trying. RE5 at least had moments, i mean, that whole corridor of Lickers behind glass windows was a bit touchy.

Just from what I played of it RE6 just sticks with this "horde mode" mentality and doesn't give it up. RE4 paced it all out so well, that was really the key difference between RE4 and where RE5 and RE6 fall short. You start out with a few unusual encounters, then get to the seemingly normal village who decide to lynch you and you're fending for yourself and then they all just decide to go to church. The tempo resets and you start scaling into more and more tense situations from there. You still had inventory management (that's gone now in RE6, probably because it was "too stressful") and some level of restrictions to deal with so you could just peel off all your bullets right away.

Then you get near the endgame and its a fucking warzone, you got a helicopter buddy for airstrikes and all sorts of insane shit going on.

I mean, just how does the Revelations team get this idea of pacing and the RE6 team is just not with it at all? RE6 seems like it could have at least tried to be a great action game and even fall short on that because they're trying to impress you with how many zombies they can toss at you.

It was painful listening to the GT video review... "When it comes to tension, nobody does it like RE6" or something like that....

You have *got* to be shitting me. I didn't feel a damn thing through that whole demo. Also, since when can Chris take that kind of punishment? I was getting shot at all to hell and ... just ugh. Not even going to go into how awful the cover system is, but damn...

Oh yeah, another thing that really threw me. Since when do zombies take multiple headshots? The first zombie I ran into on Leon's scenario, I popped in the head, heard the "squish" noise and saw about 1/3 of it's skull blow off from the impact.... and then I noticed it wasn't down.

Umm... what? Last time I checked, bullet to the brain = dead zombie. Why the hell is it necessary to completely obliterate their heads now? Yeah it's a zombie, but it still needs a brain to function.

Finally beat Imperishable Night's Extra Stage!

Also, I picked up Keldeo at Gamestop today, so I might be playing my copy of Pokémon Black some more. Still need to get around to finishing it. >_>

Might make some headway this weekend. Heading up to Atlanta to attend my brother's graduation from cooking school, and Twitter can only provide so much.

I'm resisting the temptation of picking up BW2, I just want to see the reviews. Pokemon BW as good and the refinements were also good, but it proved to be more of the same for me and I would have preferred a real leap like Gold and Silver. Its said BW2 does evolve the formula, I just want to see how first.
