So about The Last Story - I heard that the game has 2 endings in GT's review and I'm just a little curious about it (no spoilers please)

I am liking the Last Story, got to play it some more today......... the funny part though, is I am seeing it as more of an action game with RPG elements in it, and not a Full blow RPG like I thought it was going to be.

Almost like a 3D Beat'em Up with EXP and equipment ;p

That's pretty much the impression I got as well. The dialogue choices are mostly superficial so far as well. At least the cast is pretty good. No one really bothers me too much etc (though Yurick took a while). I still wanna get my hands on Xenoblade.

EDIT: Serious question about Syrenne - is giving her a pair of +3 or better Gladiators a good idea? It says +20% to critical hit rate, but is that separately for each weapon, or will having her dual wield them give her a whopping +40%? That just sounds a little too crazy to me.

Also having a a hard time who should wear what armor.

Not bad. This close to the 13th announcement, I'm pretty sure this could be legit. If the external HDD isn't proprietary, I could start shopping for one now and probably find a good deal.

The amount of memory worried me for a moment but then I realised it is double the RAM that the PS3, 360 and PSVita all have.

                    Looks pretty decent.

1GB of memory seems pretty lackluster, as does a triple core CPU. But then I'm just comparing this to what a low end desktop comes with these days, so maybe there's some inherent limitations to consoles that I'm not aware of.

Consoles don't have all the baggage PCs have to deal with, so they can generally deal with less RAM. PS3 might have aimed a little too low, but a handful of games aside it fared rather well with what its had.

It's more the memory architecture that hamstrings the PS3 when playing games like Skyrim than setting the bar too low.

Well, yeah, but that doesn't change the fact Bethesda threw in on the PS3 anyway. The situation with Skyrim and the Skyrim DLC being practically incompatible has caused such a stir Sony has had to become involved to see if they can make the content happen.

I meant everything but Bethesda games on PS3

Not in so many words, though. Skyrim's problem - and by extension, Bethesda's - is that Bethesda is terrible at writing efficient code. It shows more on the PS3 version simply because it has a less flexible memory architecture, but the laundry list of bugs in Skyrim that needed (and quite a few that STILL need to be) squashed is quite long.

Bethesda has this horrible tendency to create these sweeping game designs and force their code to conform to their ideal, even if it means the code becomes easily broken or inconsistent. The fact that every key you ever collect stays with you is the silliest of silly features. Sure, blah blah you could take every key in the game and drop it in your house derp derp derp derp... in the mean while it's eating up a chunk of memory because the game has to remember all those keys in your inventory instead of doing the smart thing and leaving the door permanently unlocked in the zone once the key is used and deleting the key.

That's just one example of massive stupidity in Skyrim's design, and it's not the only one.

everyone should know this by now, but also keep in mind that computers can run roughly a gajillion different configurations, both in hardware and sotware, all of which a PC game will have to be able to deal with, wheras a console is much more limited.

as long as the coding is done well, being able to work closer to the hardware itself allows for much greater efficiency. the other end of this spectrum is when you have the highest degree of compatibility, but at the cost of processor time (see intrepreted programming languages, emulators, etc.)
