  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

So I got the achievement for charm/intimidate, which now has me wondering:

    About Wrex

EDIT: Okay so I'm coming up on the last few segments of the game, looked at the wiki & guides for ME2 and ME3 as well while trying to avoid spoilers. So, I need a bit of help now in terms of a party dynamic I want to use for ME1 and onward (I know ME2 has mostly different cast members with a like 2 or 3 of the originals returning and then the rest of the old crew in ME3 except for Wrex whom for w/e reason gets relegated to NPC status for 2 and 3 - shitty deal)

Baring all that in mind, I want to setup a good asshat party for my full-renegade playthrough of the series. Again, I really do like Ashley and Garrus (though I won't have her in 2, she comes back in 3) as they're both pretty Renegade, with Garrus acting as more of a balance (he's still a good guy at heart, just doesn't care much for the rules whereas Ashley is just a rambo bitch lol). This rules out Talia and Liara outright, which only leaves Wrex as a possible choice. But he's only playable in ME1, and of course I'm going for ultimate-asshat damn the consequences (which is going to hurt me bad in ME3 I know, but that's also sort of the point - I WANT to create a gritty, harder scenario by taking the easy shortcuts in the beginning and let my Paragon run slug it out for greater war assets in the future)

As such, I'm rather disinclined to use Wrex despite his personality fitting the bill - or should I keep him on anyway until Vermire? I kind of wanted to use him on my Paragon run instead (because it's dull enough having Shepard being the goody-goody) alongside Kaiden for a bit of tech & extra biotic support, with Shepard as a Commando going all-out offense & surviveability.

Any suggestions? I'm going to take Talia and Liara for my 3rd file, trying to keep a balance between Renegade & Paragon (because there's 3 endings to each game right? Paragon, Renegade & Mixed) though in that sense, it'd almost be better to have 2 characters that clash with each other, like Wrex & Garrus. The problem with those 2 is that they're both really Renegades, though Garrus still cares at heart.

    EDIT 2:
    Another Option for Wrex

Only two cast members in ME2 return as playable, neither of them can die in ME1, but certainly can die in ME2 and thus not appear as playable in ME3.

Aside from not killing Wrex, seriously stop the completionist bullshit and just play the game. These choices are not as nuanced as you are thinking they're going to be. You keep saying no spoilers but then ask for them. After all three games I still think DXHR was more solid.

          SO...

...I have a little more than $100 in Gamestop credits. Anyone got any recommendations? Used Wii for 77? Just games? I thought about Dragon's Dogma, but my local Gamestop doesn't have it used so it's running at about $60 which is...just not happening. Also, Heroes of Ruin soon.

Why the hell would you even consider buying a Wii when the Wii U is out this fall?

As I said in another thread, they currently have some good specials on atm: Metro 2033 for $10, and Tales of Graces F for $39.99 (both games are -$20 from their normal price points). I strongly recommend getting Metro 2033 for that price.

Because Wii U is expensive and I never was interested enough with Wii to buy it. I'm not even THAT interested in it now. But I do have the credits, so...\

Who knows? Maybe down the road, years from now, I'll again have lots and lots of store credits, and Nintendo will be coming out with the Wii Thrii, so I'll end up getting Wii U on the cheap.

A new console these days doesn't mean one buys it right away. Right now, I'm only inclined to get a Wii U for the fact of it fully replacing my Wii and offering something different to the market. Over the course of this gen, PS3 and 360 have amounted to shit PCs.

They are less convenient than PCs, less secure than a PC, the best games they get are also on PC and all that. Oh, and they never close the door on old games. Nintendo keeps one generation of compatibility, which is fine by me, between MS and Sony, MS will likely at least try to have BC and Sony will look for an excuse to not have the feature again. Thier inability to make good on what compatibility Vita could have doesn't exactly give me confidence current PSN games will work on the next console.

This is not the time to cut features, not when Apple and Google will be competing with the kinds of TVs that could replace consoles.

Even if MS did manage BC, they'd really have to expand on first party content. More than just Halo, Gears, Fable and some shitty Wii Sports knock offs.

Oh yes indeed. How cool is that? Having to take up space for both PS2 and PS3 on the shelf below my TV. When I'm well aware there was a time with PS3 could play both.

That's really the main reason I suggested getting the Wii U over the Wii - it plays Wii Games, so less space. Though if you want just a regular Wii to try a few games, go for it.

@_@ I asked the guy @ my EB how much they're worth now on trade-in and he said about $22...

honestly the BC on PS3 sucks..... I have a BC PS3 and I still have my PS2 hooked up to play PS/PS2 games

It's not so much an issue of PS3 playing PS2 now. That ship has sailed.

It's more of a concern they'll do the same with PS4 in respect to PS4 games. True, they are moving away from Cell, which is a hurdle, but MS shifted from nVidia to ATI and still made an effort for compatibility. Add to this app-enabled Smart TVs that will enter the market with games. Not a good idea to cut games, even if your emulation might leave something to be desired.

I made the mistake of going back to Shogun 2.

                          Only a few battles and it freaking consumed my entire weekend. <_<;

Damn Hojo clan taking advantage of my fight to get rid of the Oda after the clan divide, my forces were spread thin because I made a flash invasion to crush the clan and take all 22 provinces in 2 turns. Now I have to travel back in time and get way more forces ready to invade the Hojo the moment they decide to join forces with my enemies, so I can conquer all of Nippon.

Probably hurts X-Box and Playstation more than Nintendo that so many games are multiplatform now. Nintendo has always had solid options that aren't available for the other systems. Personally, I don't have a gaming computer so that's not really an option for me unless I start saving up for one. How are Apples at playing games? Got a friend who works for the Apple Store who could point me in a good direction.

Still, stuck with a Playstation 3 now, and very few games I actually play on it. I got a couple of PSN games. Have Sonic Genereations. I liked Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but not enough to play the 2 sequels. I bought 2 as part of a bundle with 1, and 3 came with the system. Hardly touched 2 before I got bored. And holding off on Skyrim a bit until the DLC is out on PSN.

Still holding on for Epic Mickey 2 (which is also multi-platform) and Ni no Kuni, which is a long time coming.

I think all three are in trouble, to be quite honest.

Microsoft basically has Halo, Gears, and Forza as exclusive franchises. Now that I think on it, the best Xbox exclusive isn't a game, it's the Xbox Live service, and it's really only compelling in North America.

Sony continues to support a wide variety of exclusive games, but sometimes that doesn't work out as well for them. Sometimes you get Journey or Shadow of the Colossus or God of War... and sometimes you get SOCOM 4 and Lair. None of the Sony franchises grabs huge market share the way Halo or Mario do, and that's been a problem for Sony since day 1.

Nintendo "would" benefit from the combination of great first-party games and other games being multi-platform, except that those multi-platform games... don't appear on the Wii. I "think" that's what they're trying to fix with the Wii U; basically giving gamers all the Nintendo first-party content they've come to know and love while still offering all the best new current generation games from the Xbox 360 and PS3. Where they might get into trouble here is the next Xbox 720 and/or PS4. If the Wii U can't keep up with the next AAA-class games next year, they're going to have the same exact problem all over again where the Wii U will only get half-assed ports with tablet controls tacked on as an afterthought to assuage the Wii U owners who will be getting less capable versions of games.

You'll notice that Nintendo typically doesn't have this problem with their handhelds, primarily because of a lack of competition which would funnel gaming dollars elsewhere. As things stand, the PSP and PS Vita aren't mainstream enough to matter to Nintendo except in Japan because of the surprise runaway success of Monster Hunter on PSP. The big question here is whether portable tablets and smartphones will significantly shrink the market for a dedicated handheld gaming device and cause long-term problems for the 3DS.

EDIT: Lest I forget by omission, there's also the wild card of the Ouya which has been making splashy headlines all week. $99 for a free-to-play home console could be a compelling consumer value proposition.

I don't know if I'd ever do a Mac for gaming, as games still come out at a trickle compared to everything else. Seems like things are much better than they used to be when the odds totally were not in Apple's favor.

I'd wager building a PC for next gen games would still be vastly cheaper than anything Mac could offer and be a better long-term investment than a next-gen console.

I think next gen is me going with 3DS, Vita, Wii U, a tablet and a gaming PC, Sony and MS are going to have to make some major changes to get me to pony up. BC would be a great first step. I think MS would be off their rocker if they released a next gen console that couldn't play Halo 4, Gears or the previous Call of Duty. Still, they're going to have to stop that whole online subscription fee thing. It was reasonable for a while and I don't really have a problem with the ads except for the fact that if you have ads they should be paying for free online play.
