  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Playing Retro Game Challenge on DS, very fun and something quick for me to play while I work on my arcade cab.

Donkey Kong Country returns. Having a lot of fun, but I can't be bothered to find all these jigsaw pieces. I'm not even sure they're good for anything other than unlocking extra pictures/dioramas/music. I must say though, letting enemies stick around for a full second after they're dead is genius when it comes to co-op game play.

Wrapping up ME2 today, hopefully. I'm hoping all these choices add up to a lot of interesting moments in ME3, but I have my doubts since some rather big choices I made in ME1 are totally copped out in ME2.

Fell behind. I tried to max out loyalty as best I could. Zaeed is going to die, though. He was too reckless and jeapordizing lives, so he's going on the fire team.

Poor Kelly Chambers, she just turned to goo. And to think if I had only flirted with her more she might have not suffered such a strange and arbitrary fate. Oh well, at least we got Dr. Chakwas out.

I really need to play all of ME -.- not sure why I have not yet. Just picked up 4 new ... well "new" PSX game from my shop in Jasper, Tomb Raider I & III, Mega Man X4, and Project Overkill, the PO game looks interesting, might give it a go.

Picked up Mass Effect 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken last night for PS3. Played a small amount of ME3. It's definitely a little rough around the edges graphically, more so than I've come to expect from a Mass Effect game. Occasional frame rate stutters, some outright glitchy camera angles, and some questionable textures on the PS3 version mean I'll probably buy it again over Origin (sigh) for PC when EA gets desperate and puts it up for digital download for like $20.

On the plus side, gameplay feels much improved. Shooting feels more solid, classes seem much better balanced, and a lot of the drudge work is gone (no more resource scanning, hacking, or decryption).

I don't get why they got rid of the hacking and decryption.

Oh right, frat jock democgraphic. I forgot it makes their heads hurt. the hacking in ME2 was actually, fun, though.

360 version feels a bit smoother than the demo did. Oh, an GREAT JOB Bioware or making me rebuild my character's face from scratch on import. Oh well, at least all my choices made it over intact. Every FemShep hair option this time was fugly save for one and WTF is with these Jersey Shore rejects joining the cast?

                Choices I'm going with are;

                Kaiden lived
                Rachni Queen freed
                Wrex lives
                Council survives
                Mordin has genophage cure research
                Rewrote the geth heretics' memories
                Romanced Liara before ME2
No romance in ME2 (Samara turned me down)
Everyone but Zaeed and Kelly survived the suicide mission (I didn't download Kasumi, so she doesn't count).
Illusive Man no can has Collector base.

Also, Bioware just continues to prove my point that their DLC is absolutely bogus.

Shadow Broker and Arrival happen whether you play them or not.

No word on if they ever bother to tie up the plot thread in "Bring Down The Sky" it was only referenced in Galactic news in ME2.

Also, I'm still hoping that my endorsement of every store on the Citadel comes back to haunt me, but I have a feeling it won't.

                • Re: What games are you currently playing?

I usually dislike compulsory minigames that are seemingly shoehorned into RPGs like with ME2. Hacking and Encryption was fun at first but got old fast and I was eventually just wishing for a dice roll to determine it like a pen and paper style RPG such as BG or DA but oh well. Mineral Scanning can fuck off and die in a fire though.

Mostly playing Minecraft and Star Wars TOR at the moment. I recently rerolled on Lord Adrass US after being driven out of my old server (The Progenitor EU) by an entire guild (Precept) for daring to defend a clearly new player, who made ONE MISTAKE (which ironically turned out to be the best option he could have picked since it was Huttball, he was on their goal line and he used vanish to escape which tossed away the ball because be was about to be hit with a knockback by the respawners and then CC/nuked to death) from their abuse in in Warzone.

I went through two weeks of being harassed, abused and having the server reputation as a great Jedi Sage (and Jedi Sentinel) I pain-stakingly built up since beta (to the point where people would actively seek me out as a healer for Raids and Nightmare Modes like back with my White Mage on Kujata on FFXI), completely torn apart by petty and immature players who couldn't admit for one second that they were being wrong and think that they have some kind of right to act like that because it's a subscription game. Basically every time I logged on I would be bombarded by /whispers, ingame mails and shouts in regional and custom global channels about me because I dared to stand up to them. They would even come to roleplay sessions I was having with friends ingame and would proceed to disrupt not only my session but everyone else's with flat out abuse and sexual harassment to those with female characters. Their guild leaders did nothing and the GMs would do nothing.

Basically I decided "fuck it" and switched server. It was a shame to leave that one behind but if the GMs won't do anything about it then I want nothing to do with that server. My friends from that server were sad to see me go but at least I can play the game in peace now with a load of very friendly Americans on probably the most active server out there. I can log in at like 1200 GMT and find someone around to quest, PvP or RP with which is awesome.

Anyway! If anyone here plays on Lord Adrass look out for "Lilisette" and "Estellesia" who are a Gunslinger and Jedi Sage respectively. They are my characters there. Both are low level but the nice thing about RP servers is that people aren't obsessed with levelling.

This is the part where I make fun of your expectations of receiving any sort of competent customer service from EA.
It's utterly absurd that in 2012 GMs are unable/unwilling to take actions against players who are actively harassing an individual.

I wish I could say I was surprised there are groups like that in TOR, but Bioware's core audience seem to be some manner of rabid cultists. Do one little thing that doesn't fall into their worldview and out come the torches and pitchforks.

I have to agree with Firewind about disliking the mini-games. Hacking got old pretty fast in Deus Ex, and of course I didn't have auto-hacks available for purchase but cudos to Eidos for at least putting that option in.

It's always cute at first, but it doesn't take long before you're mentally sighing "here we go again..." every single time. Just do a quick damned skill check and be done with it instead of using it as a cheap plug to get in a few extra minutes to an hour of "Gameplay".

Taking hacking out of games where hacking is a part of the story is like taking projectile weapons out of a shooter.

When the missions are about getting into places you're not supposed to be or stealing things, you need the hacking to sell those points. Apparently my Commander Shepard, who hacked everything in sight for two games now is too dumb to do it and gets someone else to do it for her. What the hell? Yeah, there are characters they can use for that, but it just takes something out of the risk/reward equation.

With Deus Ex, hacking had a consequence, but it was also a big part of choosing how to go about your missions. Hacking was just one of many ways of getting around an obstacle or to an objective.

Hyperbole much? IIRC the original Deus Ex had hacking but it didn't require a mini-game for it and that worked out pretty goddamn well.

You too eh? Apparently it's only happening to people who imported from ME1 to ME2. Pissed me off, but I think I managed to copy my Shepard's face down correctly. He looks badass than ever, but now I'll always have that lingering feeling that something is off.

Oh well... Enjoying the game so far, though I haven't had much time to play. Went straight for Insanity difficultly since the import transferred everything, spent skill points and all - lots of fun.

That Chakram Launcher from the KoA demo is a beast. Gave it to Kaidan, and those Cerberus bastards were staggering left and right.

Hope to see more of this new Vega character. So far only thing he has going for him is that sweet armor he sports.

Yup, I actually just finished the original Deus Ex, great game. And hacking was as simple as pressing a button. You could also level up your hacking to have more seconds available after the hack. So I take it from your post that Human Revolution has a minigame when you hack? Interesting.
