I think part of the charm of Secret of Mana is its simplicity. It's a bit silly at times, but at its core it is a very simple but fulfilling story without all the fluff. Boy finds legendary sword and sets out to save the world. Simple and satisfying.

oh I plan on getting him to play SoM need to get me a copy first though ;p

with him I have learned I have to take it slow, if I rush him into something like FF or CT he will be turned off almost right away. I start with a game like FFCC:EoT and then SoM, then go from there.

I know too about reading, in fact if it was not for RPGs I would have read nothing at all during my school days ;p but I don't have a lot of time with him, so I have to make use of what I got.

SoM is definitely a good idea but what about something like "Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures" for the Gamecube - very similar in gameplay but an even simpler game.

I was going to suggest "A Link to the Past" but then I remembered seeing you say somewhere that only co-op games are required.

I haven't read the whole thread so I apologize for jumping in (if my suggestion is bogus etc.)

SoM has been on the VC for some time. Trying to think of other co-op friendly rpgs but not too many are coming to mind that don't involve a lot of reading and/or have a simple story. When he's older, the Tales games are an awesome choice for co-op battles. Vesperia in particular is largely voiced but still requires some reading.

Actually the interesting thing about FF VI for SNES is that it has co-op play. I didn't know this when I played the game as a kid but recently a colleague and I were discussing some of the classics and he told me about it. I was in disbelief because I didnt know, but I looked it up and its true.

Still playing LoL, and slowly raising my elo out of the 800's (currently 901 rofl, i suspect it will go back down before it goes back up). I got that low because i started doing ranked well before i understood the concept's of global objectives, counter picking, and basic warding/last hitting/etc. Been playing alot better though so we'll see how it goes (watching streams and competitive matches has helped a ton also)

I picked up TERA this weekend also, i bought the 80$ collectors physical edition, was charged 88$ and then shortly thereafter refunded 83$. The 5 dollars holds the order and allows you access to all the beta weekends through march and april, so well worth it in my opinon, and you can cancel at anytime for a full refund.

The game looks really nice, play's really nice, and i think maybe one of the more popular MMO's for a while. the graphics are gorgeous. Going with the unreal engine was a great idea, and it maybe dated, but i think for an MMO it's definetly some of the nicest i've seen.
I'll probably continue to play tera and LoL, and hopefully pull myself away to work on 13-2, as i've read nothing but good things so far.

How do you get to level 30 without learning about the basics of last hitting? I'm confused lol.

Also, just busted out the super metroid again. I'm going to try for the under 2 hr 100% item run soon, although the record is like... sunder 1 hr 30. The game is soo good.

Four swords is a good idea, and so is FFVI with multi set, as far as getting the Wii VC version of SoM, I would rather spend that cash on a real copy. I have the multi tap for SNES and 3 controllers so I am good there ;p

yeah the Tales games are good, and I have them all but the two on PSX, (well all but the JP/handheld ones)

<_< there's been plenty of amazing PS3 titles for years now. Good luck finding a copy of Valkyria Chronicles outside of online retailers, though.

It's actually a lot cheaper to buy games online, anyway... at least, over here they are. For example: pre ordering Mass Effect 3 from GAME* will cost you $98AUD (collectors edition being $129). However, if you pre-order it from ozgameshop, you're spending about $60. Still quite a bit, but at least it's around $40's cheaper.

*I was going to use EBGames as an example, however they only had the Collectors Edition and an "EB Excusive" ME3 game, which was still over $100's.

Beat X-Men Arcade with a friend of mine. Considering all the hype and nostalgia I've seen on ther interwebs I thought this would be a really good game, but no such luck. I'll be honest though, it made me laugh at how bad the Engrish was.

Well having never played a DOTA type game before LoL, and i litterly started playing in late december... And maybe I should reiterate that i mean last hitting while under harass/ paying attention to the rest of the map/ knowing when to use abilites to get CS/ when to realize that the enemy is over extended and when to sacrifice CS to harass them. I meant the deeper aspects of "last hitting" as opposed to just stutter step back and forth and then shoot/hit the mob when it's really low life.

People played it because it was in the vein of Turtles in Time and The Simpsons and for the laughable translation back then, not much else. The other two brawlers were better. None of them aged that well, though.

I'd say Turtles in Time has aged pretty well, considering the genre; I don't remember the Simpsons arcade being bad either. X-Men was just...really bad though. Not just in gameplay but also in production value and coherence. The whole thing is just so sloppily put together. Plus, the US version was designed to screw you over even harder than the original. The bosses in particular were just terrible and the whole gameplay kind of devolves into spamming your mutant power.

EDIT: When I say it's sloppily put together, I'm not talking about the Engrish by the way.
