Sony forces the online pass across the board now where multiplayer is concerned. It won't be long before the go for single-player content, too. It amazes me that Sony and EA have the audacity to pretend they embrace digital distribution, but really just fear it and use online functionality to force retail success for what little ground it gains them.
MS doesn't do it because they have Live. Nintendo doesn't do it because of a think called dignity. Nintendo might not have 100% faith in their IPs doing well in the west, but I'd rather not have a game than have a game with the online pass.
Funny how that works. I won't be having Kingdoms of Amalur, but I will be having Xenoblade. Additionally, Skyrim's still got stuff I haven't seen and expansions on the way.
