Dark Souls, Arkham City, Aliens Infestation and started DCUO a couple days ago.

I made a psychic archer with acrobatic skills, pretty much a merger of my RNG and EQ enchanter. Fun stuff so far.

I like it ok. It feels more like one of those big crossover comic events like Arkham Asylum kind of did. AC's story just feels thrown together.

DCUO pillages a bit of Morrison's JLA Earth 2 for its premise but it carries it well so far. I'd expect Geoff Johns to spin a good story, he hasn't disappointed me yet.

Beat the "half-way"point boss on in Tales of the Abyss last night on Unknown difficulty. Wasn't a particularly hard fight, just that like anything else on Unknown, the boss's stats are absurd. Most of his spells or combos could take Anise (who has had the Tutti Capacity core equipped from the moment she joined the party) from 7k HP to <1k, unless she ran away (thanks to the Glory skill) or used Guardian. The combination of Natalia's fast single target cures and Tear's slower AoE cures was a boon. Natalia's Revive (and its FoF Angel's Breath) kept anyone from actually dying (so no loss in grade!), which happened a lot when he stopped focusing on Anise and cast Holy Lance on someone else. TP management was an issue, mostly for Natalia, whose pool is crap compared to the cost of her spells. I was probably more worried about the game freezing from the Dying Moon extension glitch than actually losing XD (for the last 100k HP, I stopped using it).

Been playing FFXIII and actually found it to be enjoyable. I guess when I went into this, I had such a super low expectation of it (I was expecting a 2 out of 5 stars rated game) that I didn't find the game to be terrible as some have. There's some annoyance here and there (constant Paradigm shifting is one of them, but that is the core of the new battle system, so I'll just adapt) but overall it's been fun. I didn't get nearly as upset of the linearity since it has always existed in previous FF games, just that most people tend to forget that it existed. Heck, linearity exists in WoW, so I wouldn't throw the baby out with the water. Maybe to the degree it does and I do agree that it could've been toned down, but the trending in Japan for RPGs is a tight mix of traditional JRPG elements and visual novel storytelling, so I'm not at all taken aback that that's how SE decided to develop the game (It got high marks from reviews in Japan and an overwhelming support from Japanese gamers)

Despite the buttloads of games out there, why is PSN a bit ... empty? I don't know, maybe I'm too used to sifting through catalogs on Steam and elsewhere, but I didn't find too many "addons" for games. Most notably absent from the lists were marquee titles.

It's because the Sony hardcore just roll over and accept PSN for the lukewarm network it is, muttering to themselves "At least its not Nintendo." That and MS buys timed exclusivity on a lot of the downloadable games out there.

Being mildly better than Nintendo doesn't win the people really into online play. I'm not a big online gamer so it's not usually an issue for me, but every now and then with a fighter or co-op game, I somewhat regret not having a 360. Thankfully with Dark Souls the established community was already with PS3.

Made a Green Lantern on DCUO, which has turned out to be as fun as I hoped.

Studies show DCUO provides a solid 2 months of fun. After that, it's hit or miss.

Sony is very self-destructive when it comes to digital distribution and regional restrictions. But then again, most companies are. Specially in Japan; if there's one big weakness Japanese companies have shown is their inability to adapt and change their ways in a timely manner unless they are already on the verge of disaster.

Maybe the Japanese are adverse to online services because they are rather private (similar to many Europeans actually) So the companies do not feel a need to provide online services. That's the disconnect with the rest of the world, although I'd argue just primarily with the U.S. market for now.

In any event, they spend too much money on lame things like Pulse, and less on actually getting stuff to download. If such support from vendors are lackluster, then that's actually an issue with Sony USA and not Sony Japan. Maybe they ought to court more indie developers and actually open up the platform a bit. It seems so sterile and controlled, more so than Apple's iOS environment.

But yeah, LOTS of badass games lately. I don't quite get what's up with Naughty Dog's obsession with Nazis & zombies/monsters but hey, whatever works...

@_@ fucking game froze on me just after a huuuuuge battle too, so I'm done for the night with UC2. Hoping I don't have to redo that battle.


Also, Lunar Silver Star Harmony is OK. They improved the inventory tremendously and added some neat new battle elements (limit breaks), but generally I fucking loath the new voice work and remade songs... They should have just left the original tracks in, at least for 3 big scenes: the Intro movie (Good LORD the new version is awful), Luna's boat song (how dare they fuck with that...) & Kyle's intro. Kyle's new voice actor isn't that bad actually, and they didn't QUITE kill that scene, but overall the PSP remake lacks the campy feel the PSX version did and it really takes away from the experience. They should just put the original up on PSN already, along with Lunar 2 as well (even though it wasn't nearly as good - ugh just thinking about Leo makes me cringe)


"The Definitive Version" my ass. As far as extra scenes go, all I've found thus far (and I'm nearly at the Black Dragon Cave) was the prequel segment where you control Dyne, Ghaleon, Lemia & Hell Mel for a 2-part boss fight. They didn't even give any real backstory to the original villain from 15 years ago, you just whoop his ass and then it cuts to the actual game.

I wish Working Design was still around.
