God of War Origins demo.

Meh.

I just don't see what's so special about these games. They did a nice job of bumping up the resolution for HD and the framerate is nice, but its not even the upgrade GoW collection got and even that was sort of ho-hum.

Also finished Mass Effect 2.

It was... okay.

Even after doing loyalty missions it seems who lives/dies is decided in a completely arbitrary fashion by the scenario. I max Jack and Miranda's loyalty and they die anyway. Saved the Doctor Chakwas and Kelly Chambers, too.

I didn't really do shit with Jacob or Grunt and the game gives them a pass.

I'm going to let the mission stand as is, though. Feels cheap to mulligan the whole thing after the first time through.

I was left with Tali, Kasumi, Samara, Grunt and Jacob (who I never used beyond the tutorial)

You know what I like? When you have the real choice whether to save them or not.

Like say someone got into a trap with you, and they tell you to go ahead without them because you are severely out numbered and it's also a perfect chance to get to <insert objective here> without being noticed.

You can stay and fight a tough fight to protect them (and yourself) or you can stealth past the atackers while your companion takes all the heat.

All of this hypothetically speaking of course, for there's no game I've been playing recently with that kind of scenario. Hai.

Grunt's pretty hard to lose, as he's a huge bad-ass and is almost impossible to lose unless you don't earn his loyalty and bring him to the final fight (this is the only common way to get him killed - every other scenario almost requires you to try to kill everyone else, including Grunt).

You also have to work pretty hard to lose Miranda. She's pretty low on the totem pole for potentially fatal consequences in the final mission.

I'm trying to figure out how you managed to keep Kasumi alive when most everyone else is dead.

Kasumi was with me in the final fight along with Miranda. I maxed her Shadow Strike recharge and lowered cooldown timers so when she could zip around and melee collectors she did. I didn't really do anything special for weapons.

I also had her in party the most out of anyone, I did her DLC early in the game. Being in my party all the time might have had something to do with it.

Other things that happened

Thane Krios got a rocket to the face.
Zaeed got shot leading the distraction.
I sent Samara with Dr, Chakwas and Kelly to see them safely to the Normandy. I wanted to keep her
Mordin died. On the ground, motionless. Very sad.

I did have Miranda do the Biotic field through the swarm. After the final fight she was crushed by a column, maybe that Biotic field thing wore her down.

Oddly, Jack was hauled off by the swarm to be turned to genetic goo like the other humans. This was highly implausible given her powers and backstory. Epically lame death.

I never did figure out where to go to start with that geth fellow, so he's somewhere on the Normandy waiting to be activated.

Also, I chose to let the Illusive Man have the Collector base. He had a point, even if he is a human supremacist. Though really, if this doesn't radically chance half of where ME3 goes, I'll be a bit disappointed. Letting Illusive Man keep that sort of tech around after the reapers are dealt with is a plot point that must be dealt with.

I mean, you don't just make your own Smoking Man and don't come up with a reason to eventually make him the ultimate evil and kill him.

Upon reconsideration, I'll do another run on the final mission and make some different choices, especially the big one. This way, I can see if I can fix the parts I didn't like and have different paths - well, provided Bioware doesn't cop out on the two different ways ME3 could go.

Thane eats a rocket again
Jacob gets shot
Grunt dies so Dr. Chakwas and Kelly can make it to the Normandy
Mordin crushed by column.
Miranda overwhelmed by the Collectors.

Everypme else lived. Jack was the "right" choice for the biotic field gig, though I guess I could have had her gone in Grunt's place instead.

Blew the base to smithereens and told Illusive Man to eat a dick.

By the by, your teammates have varying ranks of toughness. Jack, Kasumi, Tali and Mordin are the weakest and easiest to lose. Grunt, Zaeed, and Garrus are beefy and hard to lose.

Some hints for you:

ME2 general final mission hints

For crawling around in the ducts, you need someone who's REALLY good with tech (not a dabbler like Thane).

For leading the fire teams, you need a team player who knows how to lead (not a merc like Zaeed).

For the biotic field, you need a super-strong biotic (not just your everyday average biotic like Miranda).

Everything else needs loyal teammates or you're 98% likely to lose at least a few people.

As for the geth, you have to activate him IMMEDIATELY after getting the Reaper IFF if you want to accomplish his loyalty mission before your crew are kidnapped. He's in the AI Core. Oh, and he kicks tremendous amounts of ass if you earn his loyalty because he gets the strongest weapon in the game (Widow Sniper Rifle) with unlimited ammo.

Currently playing through Resistance 2 on PS3, since I picked up R3 last week and R2's been sitting unplayed on my shelf for the past two years.

Have to say I actually dislike this game, and I didn't think I'd ever say that about a game made by Insomniac It's easy to get lost, mission objectives aren't terribly clear, you move like a snail, and being only able to carry two weapons at a time makes for very unfun set battles if you enter an area with the wrong weaponry.

Picked up Dissidia 012 again, since I beat after years and don't feel like playing MMZ anymore for the moment...


Ugh, I have to more or less beat the 000 scenario before I can battlegen Prishe & Gilgamesh, joy. At least I'm getting close to reclaiming some of the gear I lost.

I seriously dont' get that at all. What the fuck, we can transfer over character levels and skills from 013 but not gear. Because I totally didn't want to kill myself after spending 2~3 weeks grinding that fucking Kefka ghost for the ribbon.

Finished Resistance 2. Still don't like it. Movement is really slow, even sprinting is slow. Weapons are crazy cool (as you'd expect from any Insomniac game) but some are so rare that they never see much use (Bellock grenade launcher, Splicer V7), and others are way too good for their own good (see my comments about the Augur below).

I don't mind the lack of cover mechanics, but I do mind that a large number of sections of the game are DARK and your only tool for these sections is a flashlight that goes out about 10 feet. It makes navigating a headache, and makes me feel less in control - not in a "oooh scary what direction is the next enemy coming from?" sort of scary way, but more like "god blast it, where in the hell is my next mission objective, I can't even find a doorway".

The only saving grace for this was the Augur cannon, which has X-ray heat vision so you can at least see those enemies coming around the corner. Unfortunately, because of the two weapon limitation (screw you Halo for popularizing this terrible game mechanic!) it left me constantly carrying the Augur in a bid to keep myself from going insane towards the end of the game.

Overall, disliked the game a lot. Hated fighting the Swarm in the middle of the game, hated the last boss fight even more (because it was easy and repetitive), and the final scene was absurd

Seriously WTF

Hale is tossing force blasts with his bare hands, Cappelli's on top of the ship watching him approach with no weapons in his hands, and he doesn't bug out and leave him there to be nuked? And then Hale for some reason doesn't kill Capelli, and THEN Capelli kills him with a single pistol shot? Yeah, sure...

Up next: Not sure. Resistance 3? Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4? Finish No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise? Already playing Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on PSP, so that's my portable option.
