Re: What games are you currently playing?
And your point is?
The more people in engage in piracy - regardless of how they wish to rationalize it - the harder it becomes for everyone. As much as I want to call bullshit on EA for cutting content from their games to "prevent piracy" its not a totally unfounded reason, even if it is a flawed one.
People can't just enjoy what they have, they gotta keep up with everyone else and feel like they're part of the conversation in gaming. Sorry, but I do not game beyond my means and I will not steal to do it. All the excuses that are being made here are ones I used to make, but can no longer really justify now that the means and the potential is there for these games to be purchased legitimately in digital form.
The excuses are, quite frankly, outdated.
Now we just have to wait for companies to embrace the notion of digital distribution. It came for music first and now that's the norm and CDs are the oddity. Its happening with movies now and it will continue to evolve with games.
But apparently, the rationale for stealing things just keeps on finding new reasons. Reasons like "They charge too much for old games" as if age has any relevance to intellectual property. Plenty of people seem to think FFVII is worth $9.99. There's no shortage of FFVII now. Unlimited quantity, over a million downloads, so what's the excuse to ROM hack it?
Its available.
It can be backed up.
Still a good game for a game that's 13 years old.
People still like it.
Hell, soon you're not even going to be short on options for what you play it on, you'll just have more of them.
Sony Ericsson Readying an Android 3.0 PlayStation Phone?
These legit versions will continue to be cataloged over time, the catalog will grow and be integrated into new hardware. What's not there now will probably come to light eventually. No game stays dead forever.
Except Duke Nukem.
