What Malacite is laughingly referring to is optimal viewing distance.

1080p charted: Viewing distance to screen size -- Engadget HD

A 1080p 22" screen has to be viewed from a distance of less than 2 feet for the difference in resolution to be at all perceptible even if you're looking.

I can attest to this from personal experience - the PC I'm typing this on has a 21" 1680x1050 screen LCD screen.

You probably could have saved yourself a bundle by looking a little harder and picking up a 720p TV at that size.

All the 720 models were more expensive and without LED, mostly due to differing brands and the arrogance in pricing of being a mainstream brand. There was a 720p of the same brand for fifty less, but it was not LED. LED was the main thing I was going for as I like how vivid the image turns out.

None of this pertains to the question I'm trhing to get answered, though, which is how how improve things for the Wii. I'm not terribly worried about how a 360, PS3 or Blu Ray player will perform on this since they're built for HD

So I tried out the first 30 minutes or so of Xenoblade.

It hurts me to realize I need to finish FF9 before I leave, and that I won't have time for this.

Think FF12, shinier, techno-y, and so far I'm guessing just as if not more beautiful. Technically, the graphics are a little bit better, but the art direction so far is pretty great, and I haven't gotten to anywhere I imagine is designed to be particularly impressive yet.

It seems very MMO-styled; autoattacks, monsters dropping chests on the field when they die, uncontrollable party members (and when I reached the first town, he left; I got the impression that it's common for them to drop in and out.). They even have you talk to the city guards for quests and the like.

Just started Disc 4 of FFIX. I think I'm over 80 hours into the game now. lol OCD FTW!

EDIT: Just booted it up and I've been at it for 90 hours....

I just got Angelo's Templar Togs in Dragon Quest IX since DQVIII's Angelo was this week's guest at the Questers's Rest. Also, the DQVC store has slime-themed gear going on.

The game really has that addictive collection element to it, from all the stuff you can get in game, to what you can find on the treasure maps and in the DQVC.

Now I just need a Treasure Map laced with Gold Golems so I can grind for money more easily.

Having a blast with NG+ in Demon's Souls. Seriously, it is a great game. I have found that it works wonders while LFG in FFXI too, just toss up your flag, enter a boss fight, and watch the invites pour in.

Having a ton of fun with the SoulSucker spell, black phantoms just became a who ton easier to fight and I'm currently running through the Tower of Latria level SoulSucking the soulflayer guards that I hate so much.

That Xenoblade looks interesting... Very interesting in fact. Do you know if it'll be released outside of Japan? Next question is can an American Wii play Japanese Wii games? If it can, I might look at importing it and using it to work on my Japanese!

I think we're supposed to hear something about a US release date for The Last Story in the near future, Sakaguchi seems anxious to bring it to the States. Nintendo's not been as forthcoming on when we'll be seeing Xenoblade.

Monolith Soft's previous game, Soma Bringer, never made it out of Japan. Nintendo didn't want to bring it here for some reason or another. Dunno why, because the gameplay style was similar to that of Chrono Trigger.

Yes. You'll need to softmod it. See wiibrew.org; ultimately, in order to unlock the wii's region lockout, you'll need to install Priiloader. I'm currently running it through Configurable USB Loader in a less than legal form, but you can run Japanese disks with Priiloader mods. USB loaders take additional work to get going, and that additional work isn't as fleshed out on 4.3 yet. It's there, but it's a sonofabitch.

So I did finally finish La Pucelle. Tried to get into FFXII again, goddamn I hate that game and those characters. I should try and track down Phantom Brave or Makai Kingdom.

Going back to Valkyyria Chronicles, then after that going to one of my horror collection games...not sure which yet.

I am on an old school kick. In free time (and cool down from raging at starcraft) I have fired up the good ol snes and am playing my way through 3 of my favorite titles that Ive not touched in forever FF3, Earthbound, and Mario RPG. When I am not busy at work (ie. breaks lunch and downtime) my psp is getting some love again with a rekindled love of FFT, and Legend of heroes II (my very first psp rpg). DS sees some love but tbh I don't own many DS games but New mario bros minigames still kick ass, well the bomb-omb one is my favorite, and sukudo on brain age is fun too.

Started playing Call of Juarez:Bound In Blood. It is my first western FPS and I am dying a lot. I actually have to use cover and the AI can still get head shots when you peak out from behind cover...

This game is going to be a fun challenge.

Almost on my 5th prestige in MW2 now...


@_@ out of batteries for my Wii Mote lmao so Okami is temporarily on hold. 36 days until Halo Reach, 44 until FF XIV!

Guilty, there have been a few times in the series where I almost threw my GBA >_> Christ those bosses had insane AI. But I don't like the easy mode crap... I only used it in MM10 for some quick trophies because it honestly went beyond a simple easy mode and dumbed the game down... but it's the only way to get the untouchable trophy or w/e it's called (beat the game without getting hit once) as you can only resume from further in Wily's castle on Easy. How much is the MMZ collection btw? I forgot all about it (fuck I hate not having a job) and there are a lot of titles I"ve been wanting to pick up >_<


Hell I still don't have the Lunar remake on PSP. (SS Harmony I think it's called?)

Just beat Red Dead Redemption. I liked the game alot, but was sorta disappointed at the ending.

I'm mad that I didn't have my Evans Repeater equipped in the last scene. I'm pretty sure I could've killed about half of the Army with those 22 shots. Damn Jerks!

Least there is room for a decent sequel. Took me about 21 hours to beat and I am about 75% done with the game. Dunno if I will have the nerve to pickup the controller to head for 100%.
