If you're talking about Viper Manor, you got about an hour or two into it. Enough to dislike for the battle system it but hardly enough to form any real opinion beyond that. You didn't like the battle system, it didn't kill your father, rape your mother and eat your sisters brain.

I don't see how the battle system is any more annoying then battle in any Final Fantasy title.

      I didn't like it ok?
That's perfectly fine. That's not, however, what you said. You made an ass out of yourself by calling a game garbage even though it clearly isn't, just because it wasn't your cup of tea. You went so far as to claim the director should be ashamed, without any reasoning whatsoever.

I don't like Halo but you don't see me calling it garbage.

And how is the battle system annoying? You don't have to worry about MP - which means you can essentially heal yourself for free and you can use your nukes in trivial fights without worry. You also don't have to wait between commands, ever. How is that significantly worse than ATB, where you know what you're going to do in advance yet have to wait 'til it's your turn just to start browsing menus (all the while giving your opponent free time if you play in Active mode), and you can get by spamming Attack in random encounters and your best nuke in boss fights? Not to mention random battles every few steps and failure to run away.

Any battle system is annoying when you don't know what the fuck you're doing. Like I said, this is CC's only problem as far as I can tell right now. They leave too much about the system unexplained, leaving the player with no other recourse other than A) test shit or B) guess. Xenogears suffered from this too. Would've been really fucking lovely to tell me about Hyper Mode so, you know, I could actually realize it's there at some point before the very end of the game. That doesn't mean it was poorly made, though.

I didn't have the game for very long either, if I got a 2nd chance at it I might change my opinion but the consensus I've gotten from a lot of people who played it is that the game was trash, especially compared to CT.

It was all very disappointing, especially after that *amazing* CG intro. Also, 50 playable characters is a tad obscene isn't it? (though Radatia Stories took it even further). I can honestly say I'd be willing to try CC again, but that's only if I can find it for a bargain price ($15 or less). I didn't even care for CT that much to be honest, and this was the sequel?

As far as PS1 RPG's go Xenogears, Lunar SSSC and Legend of the Dragoon reign supreme for me.

Legend of Dragoon is pretty bad ass fucktons of bad ass.

About Chrono Cross though, as Mhurron mentioned earlier you'll only get that many characters if you're trying to get them all on purpose. It takes 3 play throughs to actually get every single one anyway because the choices you make during the story affect who will join your party. It's also pretty obvious which characters are really good and which ones are meh, so it's not particularly hard to make a good party.

Also, you played the game for an hour or two.

          srsly.

I'm pretty sure I hated Persona 3 at about 3 or 4 hours in, but I gave it a chance and managed to play it for ~12 hours before I decided I simply did not like the game and had no desire to keep playing it.

You should be able to find it for pretty cheap if you ever do consider giving it another try, it's greatest hits so it's not particularly rare.

I've actually not minded the huge character selection as much as I thought. I thought it'd be the sort of thing where I need to know the choices I have to make in advance to get them all, but there also seem to be forks where I can only get one person (e.g. sneaking into Viper Manor, apparently can only claim one out of three characters.) And most of the ones that clearly suck aren't charismatic enough to make you want to put them in your party (hello Poshul, Pierre) so no big loss there.

            --------

So apparently the bonus you get for nuking an enemy's weakness is much larger than the penalty for nuking with your incompatible color. Guess the easiest way to go about this is to simply whore out Blue (because of compatibility with a certain girl) and bring Red as a backup color for Blue enemies. If only I had about a dozen PhotonRays, I could spam that instead!

I'm somewhere in the middle for LotD. It was a good game, it had a fun combat system, and it had an interesting story, but at the same time what Mhurron brought up always kinda bugged me too.

Legend of Dragoon didn't really do it for me. Starting with the Dragoons are supposed to be rare, yet somehow everyone I've ever met is one, including the girl who is from the race that is their sworn enemy.

More on topic, the Lego games really needed more work, but they are fun to play.

Lego games as in Star Wars/Batman/Indy, or the ones before that?

I don't remember the name of it, but I had this one Lego game where you were like on an island and you built shit.

I remember that game and I bet I still have it somewhere at home on one of my CD spindles. I think it was called Lego Island iirc.

How is everybody liking Dissidia? A friend of mine got it and he says that he didn't like it at all, and I was just wondering what everybody else thought about it that had it.

                        I've been playing Dissidia in large, unhealthy portions so far. I'm talking the kind where you skip sleep because you want to keep playing. I don't have to be at work until 4:30, plenty of time to get some sleep in >.>;

Only other games to get me to do that in recent memory were Devil Survivor and Persona 4, so yea, its pretty damned good.

Its just that its just as much an RPG as it is an arena brawler. Your friend probably didn't understand the Bravery Point system. See, in order to deal HP damage, you have to accrue bravery points by doing bravery-type attacks. Once you have a good bit, you'd then want to do an HP attack to deal damage to your opponent.

All the while you collect these things called EX cores to do EX Bursts. When you fill your EX meter and execute an HP attack, you leap into this attack CS (it can be broken if the oppenent has full EX as well and activates it in the CS) and put in Sabin-style attack inputs (Or in Tidus' case, its just like his FFX Overdrive, to put it in perspective).

So this isn't exactly a button mash game - if you don't accrue bravery, you will fail repeatedly even in the easiest battles. Dissidia's grinding of a usual RPG, even weapons and armor to accrue. There is an arcade mode and vs modes where you can play in arcade style, but its going to be more satisfying to do the fights where you can max out characters, though you can impose caps on those too.

Another way of putting it would be that Dissidia is everything Kingdom Hearts 2 wanted to be, but wasn't.

So far I've done the Cecil, Tidus and Cloud paths of the first act and they've all been fairly enjoyable. I just wish I could unlock some new aerial moves for Tidus and Cecil because those sucky initial moves aside, they're actually pretty fun to play. You're going to to want to save up all your Level Up items for Cecil, too, since he can be a PLD one second and a DRK another, he was given a larger EXP curve to level with. Cloud levels like hell on wheels for some reason.

Ultimecia sucks and The Emperor is a cheese-a-holic player, but the rest of the mages fare well and bring something unique to the table. If you want a mage with some melee moves, though, Cloud of Darkness and Shantotto appear to be the only viable options for that. Kefka and Terra are a blast to play, BTW, I just haven't gotten to Terra's story yet because she's got a higher difficulty on her path and I set the whole game to "hardcore."

Oh, and if you were looking forward to playing Bartz or Exdeath, well, they seem to suck pretty bad. They basically Shang Tsung'ed Bartz, he's representing the mime class. Onion Knight and Cecil already had the whole job change thing going, so I guess they didn't want Bartz to go that route. Exdeath is just slow, even Golbez and Ultimecia could run circles around him.

                          Lego Island 3D.

I usually play Socom confrontation, but I just downloaded the Eternal Sonata Demo and that is actually a pretty fun game. I also downloaded The Valkyra Chronicles, but I didn't like that as much.

I never got a chance to play Dissidia. My PSP got stolen a while back sadly to say

He didn't really say why he didn't like it, and as pissed as he was yesterday I didn't wanna ask why LOL. The bravery point system sounds similar to the Guts system in the Monster Rancher Series. I loved MR but it always sucked when "The Computer" (Or CPU or AI) would do an attack a split second after the FIGHT was announced and unless you had high speed it'd hit you every time. Guts played a major factor in your attacks, if it got too low then majority of your attacks would fail, and you had to have a certain amount of guts to even launch an attack.

What is funny though, this talk got me thinking about Ehrgeiz, the other FF Fighting game that I never got a chance to play.

In other news, I picked up Phantom Brave Wii Edition and haven't had a chance to play it yet. I've been playing with my jailbroken ipod touch and trying to make a custom Eden of the East theme for it. Lastly, my power window on my drivers side no longer goes down, so I'm trying to get that fixed. Hopefully with all that going on, I'll have a chance to play it this weekend.

Actually I find it very much is a button mash game; I like to build up enough brave to just 1-shot the enemy (which most of the time is pretty easy) but yeah, Dissidia is freaking amazing. The only thing that's thrown me off so far is apparently it's pronounced "Zid-ahn" ? I always assumed it was an "A" sound not "ah"

Otherwise the VA is pretty solid. I still don't understand Jecht being a villain though. He wasn't even evil; the guy just got mixed up it something that was bigger than him...

On the Dissidia Wiki, it was explained that Jecht was chosen because he had a deeper connection to Tidus than Seymour did. They said that if they had gone with Seymour, they would have had to choose Yuna instead of Tidus. Plus I'd assume it made the story easier to write, since family ties were a theme for Cecil and Golbez as well.

I actually thought they did the Tidus path rather well and that it revealed part of Tidus' frustration withJecht that wasn't expressed that well in FFX.
