Just finished playing MGS Portable ops and Street Fighter (for the PSP) with a kid accross the class during a lecture. I beat him so bad he stood up and swore, and called me a cheap asshole. (If you're playing as Ken, it's kind of hard NOT to be pretty cheap).

The teacher stopped talking, walked up to me and asked what I was doing, so I showed him my PsP (I was on the character select screen hovered over Ken). The teacher then turns around to the kid who just jumped up, and said: "It's kind of hard not to be cheap if you're playing as Ken."

I laughed so hard I thought I'd start crying, I thought I was in for an ass-kickin'.

Shooters by Treasure are always awesome, I guess you would have had to play it during the N64 days to appreciate it more. I imported it, was very happy with it.

See, people say this, but the one game I've played (Silouette Mirage) at any length was pretty unincredible. Although I do love me ikaruga clones, and the game itself looks like it'd be brilliant if I could be bothered. Bangai-O also looks interesting, but I'm not really interested. As someone who's only lightly into shmups, what is it exactly that makes S&P so great? The graphics I've seen looked muddy, even for N64. The sound effects seemed all kinds of wrong, and I don't even remember any music. The gameplay looked ok, the dodging looked interesting, but that was about it.

But I mean, is there something I'm missing, or is that it? Is there some magic to the gameplay or presentation you don't see until you're absorbed in it, or is it just one of those unfortunate games that was great in its day, but couldn't stand the test of time?

So I picked up the DMC box set (never played it before, looked interesting enough.). Played the first one. Also finally got my Portable Ops/Silent Hill Origins pack. My first import game, woo. Even though it's in English. And released stateside. Exotic! * denotes games I've not played before. Order is approximate; actually, I think I'm going to finish my second Super Metroid run before I start MGS3. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours, at this rate (Wrecked Ship in around 1:50 woo). All games, other than MGS3 and those marked with * I've made some varying degree of progress in.

Whew. That's a lot of games! Still expecting Majora's Mask to come out within the next couple weeks, and toss that up to right after Portable Ops if it does. Apparently the Japanese PSN is getting FF7-- here's hoping that FF6 and FF9 make it to the VC and PS Store (respectively) within the next couple months as well. Oh, and I'd like a pony. Just tossin' that out there.

Skip DMC2.

Seriously, don't even put it in your PS2, its not worth it. Use the discs as beer coasters and save the double-DVD case for a future purpose.

Better yet, if you still haven't played Shin Megami TEnsei: Nocturne yet, play that instead of DMC2 since it has the DMC2 Dante in a much cooler state than he is in DMC2. Then move on to DMC3.

Well, there's a problem with that. One, only SMT game I have is P3F, and I'm not in a rush to buy any others. If I did, it would be P4. Two, I hate missing parts of a series, regardless of how bad or unnecessary they are. The only reason I haven't already bought Metroid Prime 3 is because I haven't played Prime 2, and I'm waiting on New Play Controls for that. Looking at my shelf, the closest thing I have to a direct sequel to a game where I haven't played the original is RE4, and that's nearly an offshoot.

I may just take your advice on the dual DVD case, though-- It bugs me that my box set of MGS didn't come with Disk 2 of Subsistence. Could pick that up used somewhere, and trade out the manuals and cover art...

My point is DMC2 isn't even worth playing, Feba. Its so bad you'll write off what story it does have, blanch at the gameplay and take a cold shower to forget you ever touched it. Its like Snake's Revenge - no one considers it canon, even the company that let it happen.

Also main series SMT is like main series Final Fantasy - extremely vague connections in an otherwise completely self-contained storyline. Persona also has practically nothing to do with the other SMT games, except for a cute nod here and there and the personas are mostly drawn from the recycled bestiary of the other games with a few new additions.

the sequel thing was only in reference to DMC2. Anyway, looking up SMT Nocturne, it's very hard (and expensive) to find anyway. The only reason I'd prefer P4 is because I know I enjoyed P3, and it looks like an improvement in every way. I've not seen so much of a screenshot of the other SMT games (except an SNES one I tried on an emulator, I suppose), and if I see Nocturne at a good price I'll probably pick it up on your recommendation, but I really doubt that's gonna happen.

And I could use a cold shower.

In other news, with the completion of Portable Ops, I have finished my MGS run. And want to start another one because of some things brought up in Portable Ops. Fucking MGS. I've spent a grand total of $50 on it (Essential Collection, $30, MGSPO, $15, plus tax on both and shipping/currency conversion on PO), yet it's sucked up probably 130 hours or more of my life. And soon enough I will have a new TV setup with PS3, and will put in MGS4 to suck yet more out of me. It's not Shenmue, which I would gladly purchase an N-Gage for, but damn if MGS4 doesn't overshadow every single other game I want on PS3. And that's quite a bit, too.

Might get FFX2 and Crisis Core used, if I can find some third game to toss in (buy two, get one)

I'm for the most part really enjoying "The Last Remnant".

Fuck all the negative reviews! The game does have some glaring issues but the overall concept is fun and I like the plot

Currently playing RE5, I'm completely addicted!

That game has so much to unlock, and endless replayability, especially with the new Vs. Mode unlocked.

At the same time I'm still trying to play Fallout 3 on the side. I will beat that game and access the DLC!

Got FFX2 used. Twenty minutes in, random battle; Rikku screams "Snake? SNAAAKE? SNAAAAAAAAKE!". Quickest time from putting the disk in the drive to knowing it was worth every penny since Super Mario Galaxy.

Just finished FF5. Exdeath and NeoExdeath got off 3 attacks combined (1 physical attack, Flare and Aeroga) before they fell. Probably was way overleveled (@ level 45, Lenna 44) and had too many jobs mastered to make it easy, but it was still fun. Probably should go back and beat Omega, Shinryu and the bonus dungeon now that the main story is over.

Not getting spammed with White Ball takes all the fun out of that fight. Exdeath is manly as hell, he can kill you twice with one attack.


On topic, I played the new Wii version of Pikmin at Best Buy and immediately purchased it, brought it home after work and played it for several hours. Why did I not know Pikmin is the sex?

Getting pretty close to the end of Star Ocean 4. I'll probably pick a day soon and spend a good 10-12 hour chunk of time playing it and likely finish it then. I dunno if I am gonna bother with any of the extra content though, it's usually my favorite part of these games but I am really turned off by having to switch disks to go back to previous areas of the game. The only other game I know of that forces you to do this is Legend of Dragoon, but extra content wasn't very big in that game so there was scarcely a reason to go back to older areas.


Also made 2 new characters in Monster Hunter. One I have sworn will only use Greatswords (doing pretty well) and one only Dual swords (should shoot myself for thinking this was a good idea). Good times.
