Ya know, when I think about it, I've had my PS3 for almost 2 years now, and I've had a BR disc for almost as long...but I've never actually watched it. I've watched other SD DVD movies, but never the one lone Blue Ray I have. (It's TDK btw)

On topic: A friend of mine just got Demon's Souls, and since my main was too high to co-op with her I started a new character. The game is *soooooo* much easier once you have a better grasp of how things work, especially if you have at least a vague idea of what's ahead. Though I still get caught up in some of the one time traps I forgot existed, generally I have more then enough time to react.

Though with less new players, it seems there's also less messages being placed around. So it's both a good and a bad thing for me, good because my messages get recommended much more often (usually while I'm in the damn nexus) and bad because I forget a lot of the layouts and things still jump out and surprise me from time to time.

Also, Barbarian is much more fun when you get yourself some pants and a decent weapon

Beat Resistance 2 on difficult two days ago.

Now it is trophy time. Some of the multiplayer trophies are as difficult as Far Cry 2s like the 1mil xp or 10k kills. I probably going to skip those and just get the ones that are not as difficult.

Just unlocked the first Monster Hunter Mission in MGS: Peace Walker. I am sooo not ready to take on that Rathalos.

If you're curious how to unlock access to Ilsa de Monstruo here's how:

There's a kid named Chico in the game, while most characters have something useful to say in Mission Briefings, he likes to go on and on about UMAs and Cryptids - things like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster - and this Monster Island he's heard about.

Listen to all his briefing tapes and when you've reached the 18th storyline mission, Extra Ops 29 "Item Capture" will become available. Its a laughably easy Op to complete, but when you complete the objective, do not proceed to the Fulton Recovery point.

Instead proceed South to the coastline. You'll see a Feyline hanging around the pier in a boat. A cutscene will play out and this cat will offer to ferry you out to the Island to hunt rare game. I don't know if the other MH missions are a little more relaxed than the first, but if you have a friend with a PSP and Peace Walker or Ad Hoc Party on your PS3, you'll want to team up on this one. I couldn't make a dent in that wyvern and he had those annoying raptors from MHFU helping him.

Not that the main story boss is I'm facing right now is any easier, its at level 4 difficulty just like the Rathalos fight.

bbq, was going to buy PW today, then realized it was downloadable. Decided to put it off since I can download anytime, after I play some other things. But I tried the demo; couldn't get past the third stage. I didn't take it on very seriously; using tranq and so on, but it was some serious bullshit. Does it get much easier later once you have teammates, item upgrades, and so on, or does it stay pretty much a PITA? Because I'd hate to miss any MGS game, but I don't want to buy a game and then spend all my time trying to beat it instead of enjoy it. PO was harder than most MGS too; some of that's from having to fight the controls, but still. And I don't have anyone around to team up with, so a co-op game is pretty pointless.

Well, here's some tips that make things a bit easier.

I think the demo ends with a mobile unit and accompanied by guards.

Rule of thumb for these kinds of fights is to take out all the guards until there are no more no more that can be dispatched for that area (usually about 12 in all), After or during the time you're clearing out the squads sent after you, try to inflict about 60 to 75% damage to the vehicle.

Do enough damage and the leader will pop the hatch to get a better bead on you. If you take him out with the Mk 22 or sniper rilfe with anethetic darts, you'll be able to capture and recruit that leader. I don't think this option is in the demo, though, so you'll just have to kill him to end the fight. He's just as tough as any of the units dispatched in that fight, so that shouldn't be too hard.

If you got it down to like 50%, though, and other units are still in play, he won't come out and you'll have to wipe out the troops and whittle the vehicle down a bit more.

If you take out the commander and don't destroy the vehicle, it can be acquired and salvaged for "Outer Ops."

Think of it like the "trapping" you would do in Monster Hunter. If you try to totally destroy these bosses, you'll just burn up a lot of time and ammo doing so. Instead, your goal should be to eliminate the commander's troops, damage the vehicle to draw him out and then kill or capture him.

The mech bosses can be beaten solo, but they're a little steep at first and you DO have to beat them down to the last bit of HP - but if you want to salvage any parts from them (and there is a reason to) you have to be more selective about what you destroy on them. This can make the fights easier or harder, but if you see something you'd like to have from a mech - like a rail gun or tank treads - you're better off targeting another part of it so those other parts can be looted.

Thanks to the mission structure, if the fight feels too difficult, you can go back and level your skills with guns and rocket launchers on previous missions and bosses. And while you're doing that you can still progress your base, level up your army on Outer Ops and recruit people. So if you get stuck on a boss, just work on Extra Ops and other things. It doesn't take too much time and most of the boss fights are deceptively easier than they present themselves.

I think Kojima was just playing the "ultimate soldier" angle up very hard here and wanted you to get the feeling of these overwhelming predicaments you're placed in. its a smokescreen, though, the story boss fights are very doable.

One of the optional boss fights features a bomber helicopter which not only does devastating damage, but can wipe out some of your best hiding places. Man that one was hard to capture because so much damage was being done everywhere I had a hard time tracking the troops that were deployed.

Playing Lufia on my Wii, and dear lord the button layout is atrocious (and like all fucking VC games you can't rearrange the control scheme. Seriously what the fuck is up with that Nintendo?)

It's ok so far, I'm only about 2 hours in. Graphics are terrible compared to later SNES titles and the lack of item descriptions is insanely annoying but I'm still enjoying it.

just took down the Cocoon boss in MGS: Peace Walker. God that was epic end boss kind of stuff, but from where I've progressed, I've still got about halfway to go. And that's before all the other stuff unlocks after I beat the game.

Also, Rathalos is mean. The Monster Island battles are similar to the vehicle batters, except when I eliminate all the raptors, no one pops out of the dragon so I can end the fight. Also funny that there's a BBQ spit you can stick Snake's rations on to improve (or ruin) them.

And yes, it plays the BBQ spit song.

I thought you had a Wii, Mhurron. While you're at it though, try to find Viewtiful Joe if you haven't played it.

Nothing on the Wii except the virtual console interests me, so no. I have Viewtiful Joe on the PS2, haven't finished it though.

Gonna have me a Zelda marathon.

Found a copy of the Zelda Collector's Edition and Windwaker at a mom and pop store for only 8 bucks each; barely scratched too. So, the very first one all the way to Twilight Princess!

...Well, excluding Four Swords, Oracle, and Minish Cap. Oracle of Ages was pretty awesome during the time, though.

Finished the main series of missions for MGS: Peace Walker.

And yet, there's more story and even more missions afterward. Ramped-up, harder missions.

On top of unlocking Monster Hunting Missions, when you hit the bonus chapters a Vocaloid unlocks and supposedly there's supposed to be some missions inspired by Assassin's Creed as well. And when Front Mission Evolved comes out for PS3, you can actually use extra parts you salvaged from mechs in Peace Walker and apparently use them to customize your Wanzers.

And yes, I did unlock my Tuxedo.
