Oh, not DDS, FF9. Mailed my old iPod out to an internet friend a long time ago when his broke down, he's returning it with an (apparently new) copy of FF9.

I actually probably will check out other MegaTen games, although, like most other things, probably not until I'm back in the US next summer. Actually, I'll probably take my PSP; are there any out on that besides P3P and the Persona remake? Of course, I'd have to choose between a Japanese language version (given the dialog in the English translation, I'd have to imagine it would be "oh, this is pretty simple" for social links and "What the shit is this word" for the rest of it) and hoping it's released on PSN. Just one question: How do the other games mix things up? Persona does a pretty great job of keeping the game from being one long grind by having the social links; I was reading a plot synopsis of The Answer and kept going "oh yeaaaaaaaaah", because I just didn't remember anything but grinding upon grinding in there.

EDIT: Normal End'd P4. I think I may actually just drop it there, and go back and get the True Ending on a second cycle next year. I have no interest in fighting Marge or Reaper, it would keep me from going insane from boredom at having nothing to do but pursue SLinks when I play the game again by giving me something to look forward to. Only had one close call on Ameno-sagiri; thank goodness I found a Rebirth Prophecy. And lolz at the fight before that. I like the whole "Fighting another persona user" angle, I remember liking fights like that in P3F too, but he was just a pussy. The fight basically consisted of "Press Triangle, make sandwich. Apply salvation as needed". I meant to use a few snuff souls before Ameno, but Teddy accidentally killed him because I didn't realize how little HP he had.

Reaper is actually pretty simple once you get used to how he fights.

Also, you may as well go for the true ending. If you're on the final day you just pop back in the food court at Junes even after the game suggests you've done everything and said goodbye to everyone. May as well see it through to the real ending now.

The Answer was OK, but largely supplemental content. I played all the way through P4 before getting back to The Answer only to find "the answer" was already spilled all over the place in P4 save for the fate of a certain P3 character.

People are complaining that the story of the Answer isn't in P3P, but I wouldn't say it was critical material. It was challenging, but only because there was no access to the compendium. All the dungeons from The Answer made it in to P3P, from what I've seen, its just the bosses have been replaced by amped up versions of the bosses from the main quest.

      -------

On the fifth boss of MGS Peace Walker now. Man, they love to make them hard and they're not the usual MGS kinds of bosses, but vehicles with squads or another in a series of mechs. The difficulty spike in the game is pretty harsh and its clear they were hoping you'd use the co-op mode to make it easier.

They just forgot some of us don't live in Japan. Kinda hard to find other people my age with PSP and not all of us have PS3s for that lame-ass Ad Hoc Party shit.

Still, I haven't backed down from these fights yet, they are beatable with one player, just very difficult.

I also like how the structure of the game does force you to consider going without frills like the radar or sound detector. I usually don't play MGS without the radar, but going without as been quite fun. In this installment, enemies hide and use camo as well so you have to be rather methodical this time. Along the way some soldiers will upgrade to helments, so you can't shoot them in the head with tranq darts. It knocks his helmet off instead, then you gotta hope the fucker doesn't duck away and call for help.

I just end up firing one round in their backs and waiting. That or CQC them. Or cattleprod them.

nah, BBQ, I'm going to do P4 again in a year or two, so leaving the true ending for then.

decided to give myself a bit of an action buffer between P4 and FF9; as well as use some of the $100+ in discounted WiiPoints (not nintendo points, shit be old school) cards I've got sitting on the shelf. Picked up Bit.Trip VOID (not that interested in Core and Runner), loving it although I haven't been able to get past the third segment of Id. Also picked up Art Style: Light Trax; the thinking man's racing game. Pretty nifty, although it's oddly challenging for a racer. Think Tron meets Burnout. And lastly, picked up another SNES title for my virtual console: Secret of Mana. Been meaning to give it a try for awhile, liking it so far.

            Yeah, I know.

I'd still rather have FF Anthology or Vagrant Story, but its nice PSOne Classics will finally get one more game worth a damn. Won't happen again for several months.

Daaaaaaaamn. I would've preferred to get it there, but then I would've had to play with my PSP hooked up to the TV. I've got the cable, but meh.

Doesn't matter too much in the end.

I are confused. I thought you could download PS1 games from the PS Store and play them on the PS3.

Edit: Wait, do you have a PS3?

The downloadable Playstation One games on PSN are designed to work for both PS3 and PSP. You can download to or transfer the game to either device.

Yeah, my guess he doesn't have a PS3, and that is why he said he would have to use a psp cable to play it on a t.v.

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this, did FFVII and FFVIII have any updates to how they look? Curious how they look on a nice t.v. vs the crt I played them on originally.

They look a little cleaner, but they are still PSOne Games. They don't rise above standard definition or anything.

I bought FF8. It is still jaggy but they did smooth it out a tad. I've played PS1 games (via a PS) on my HDTV and there is definitely a difference though it's not huge. When I play PS1 games on my backwards compatible PS3 it's basically the same as the d/led ones.

Even N64 games look cleaner on the Wii. Sin and Punishment was where it really stood out to me, because that was pretty jaggy back when it was released. Zelda: OOT also looked nicer.

Its the 2D stuff where you really don't see a difference.

No, I don't have a PS3, hence the PSP comments.

Don't the PS3 and Wii render PS1/N64 games at a higher resolution than they originally were, even though the picture resolution is the same? Hence looking sharper.

The rail shooter half of the game is fun. I wish they spend more time on the people. They still look like slightly smoother PS2 character models.

The FPS half of the game take some time to get use to. It took me the first level and half of the second to get the hang of the controls. After that, I didnt die anymore.
