So I have gotten all of a couple hours to play NMH2 since I got it Saturday. Damn you family, stop being present when I want to play. ALSO why is there a thirteen year old girl in my house, what is she doing here.

On the upside, I managed to get a used copy of MGA2 for $8, SOLID EYE still in the wrapper, so fuck yes.

I've just started playing it. It seems ok thus far. Honestly, I'm just trying to erect a wall of canon around it, so as to prevent any contamination of my MGS/MGS2/MGS3/MGSO/MGS4 knowledgebase.

so in just over 11 hours of clock time, plus at least one more hour in "dammit I died, RAEG QUIT" time, NMH2 down.

Incredible game. If you love yourself, buy it now. If you hate someone else, buy it for them too. If you didn't like the humor, gameplay, or plot in the first game, chances are you won't like the second any more, but chances are nobody loves you and you should go die somewhere where you won't disturb us anymore too. It's an improvement in just about every way. You don't need to play the original to understand what's going on, and you'll only be missing out on a little bit of the characterization. Plus, if you like it enough to go back and play the original, there's very little spoiled (other than obvious stuff, like 'this guy was a boss. You killed him.'; because as soon as you meet that character in the previous game he's already doomed to die), so you can fully enjoy the original.

For those who have it, if you played the original, you know that there is a lot of the gameplay that isn't in the manual, or ever explained except through experimentation (and of course the internets). They added a few new tricks in this one, so keep playing around with it. I strongly suggest those just getting it start on Sweet, unless they're already comfortable with NMH-- I did my playthrough on Mild, and I can honestly say that there were at least five or six bosses that felt as hard as the hardest bosses in the original (Henry, Shinobu, etc.) on Bitter. Sweet is probably closer to a sane difficulty level.

NMH2 mechanics spoilers

Dark step returns, although it seems to be mostly random this time. I also found something like dark step a couple times later on in the game, where enemies appeared to be stopped in the air, and would open up nice combos if you timed your next hit well.

Tilting forward on the control stick while waggling the Wii remote performs a useful little forward slash. If you help Jeane lose weight, you will eventually receive an extremely useful forward dive used by nunchuck waggle; although a message appears to tell you this.

As you know from the last game, waggle and button mashing when you're knocked down helps you get up faster. This is also expanded upon to allow you to fight death; I only found out about this on the last boss, but if you shake the controller as soon as you see the 'passing out' animation, and continue shaking, you can recover from death and continue fighting. This only works a few times before you're out for good though, and you only get a few HP when you recover. It did make the final boss much more tense to die, recover, and try to shave off the last of its HP.

BioShock 2.

It's good. It hasn't been super amazing yet, but I'm having fun.

The multiplayer mode is much more well thought out than I anticipated. You're given access to the pistol and shotgun, as well as electric shock, incinerate, and blizzard, for starters. You fight, gain EXP, level up, and gain access to more science magic and weapons. It's like MW2.

Finished BioShock 2. It's an awesome game; the perfect sequel. I'm left with a lot of questions, though, which I think it because I didn't pay enough attention.

Spoiler stuff

What happened to Tenenbaum? She came back specifically to prevent little sisters from become big sisters, but we only see her once the entire game.

You're Subject Delta, the first big daddy, but why are you attacked by alphas? Were they not big daddies, but, rather, prototypes? I understand you're the first to become tied to a specific little sister, whereas the others seem to call one and escort them around.

Why did Eleanor kill you at the end? After all the talk about saving you and not letting you die, it was a little confusing to watch.

Absolutely loving the hell (lol) out of Dante's Inferno.

Sure it's no God of War and the combat can get a little clunky in some parts but for the most part the game is solid and I absolutely love Visceral's take on Dante's vision of Hell. Just started Anger, but it's late so I'm going to continue it tomorrow.

Trying to wrap up Persona 4's Expert Run.

That nice young lady in my Avatar is Margaret, she's the optional megaboss of the game.

I think she could give AV a run for his money. I though I could use my "win button" gear against her. In SMT related games, the most wonderful item you can get is the one that nulls all elemental and physical weaknesses save for Almighty.

So I wore it on one of my subsequent attempts after I got it, she one-shotted the party in the first turn. Turns out she'll do that so long as someone in the party is wearing it. So this is going to be a real test. I'm told she heals to full at 30% and her attack pattern changes every 10% you knock off. I'm guessing the real trick would be to drop her from 40% to 20% to skip that, but I think I'm gonna hve to take a serious look at the personas I've made.

Of course, it would be nice if I could get that Debilitate trait to pass along to another persona. Its Attack/Evasion/Accuracy/Defense down all rolled into one. There's also the Firm Stance trait, It makes you take 1/2 damage from every attack thrown at you, you just can't evade anything if you have the trait. Enduring Soul revives me if I die once.

Gotta find a way to roll all those into one persona. Pity I wasm't able to pass on any traits to my ultimate persona Izanagi-no-Okami. I got a few left I haven't created, though, maybe I can plug it into Lucifer.

The other optional boss is Reaper, who appears infrequently from certain treasure chests on your second playthrough. Beat him on each encounter and he'll reward you with the best weapons, armor and items in the game. He's a genuine threat at any level of the game, but especially at the low ones. I just have the skills and traits to take him on evenly now. Fuck up and he'll still take you down.

Thankfully there was a prompt asking it you're sure you want to open the chests you sense a "terrifying presence" from.

I don't know if he was good training for Margaret, though. She's no pushover. Bosses in this series generally aren't pushovers anyway, but megabosses in this series, man, they're just a whole different level.

There's really no way to compare a mob that nobody can figure out how to kill to your ordinary 'fucking bonus bosses' fellow. AV and PW probably aren't even that bad, we just don't know how to deal with them.
