Remember how Super Metroid made you really want Mother Brain dead? Remember Prince of Persia had all the platforming he did? Remember the language barrier of Out of this World and the intro to Zelda: A Link to the Past before Zelda is kidnapped? Remember how half of Castaway with Tom Hanks had little dialog before he started talking to a volleyball? Ico is all those things and then some.
Its an experience that's more organic an elemental than it is cinematic. The story is interpreted, not told.
That wasn't too hard.
You honestly talk like this to your friends and family? Do you hold a human skull while monologuing and use words like "prithee"?
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

Don't be dense.
I would assume I was describing it to someone that plays video games and has seen movies, which is why I supplied a number of similar experiences. Even as rare as an experience Ico or SotC might be, there are things to compare it to. Its narrative style is very rare, and some elements being video-game specific make it more unique, but it is not totally new.
I mean, I'm sorry if that upsets you that I was able to describe the experience, but someone did say this game was hard to tell other players about and I do disagree with that.
Going through PSP games and demos. Strongly considering selling all of my UMD games except N+ and Every Extend Extra (and maybe n+ anyway), buying Portable Ops and Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars again, digitally. SH:O, Parapon, Brave Story, and R&C:SM were all fun, but not really worth holding on to.
So now I'm debating:
1- Is it worth keeping n+
2- If I should rebuy Portable Ops Plus-- I barely played it, but then that was largely because I couldn't. My Portable Ops copy (and thus save) was a UK copy, so I couldn't import it; and I had no desire to start over. But then PO+ is only $5 extra.
Of course, Sony would be making a ton more money if they weren't fucking idiots. One, if they provided a way to back-up games, not only would they be cutting out most of the appeal of homebrew [and piracy], they'd be keeping me from selling these games back. Even just a valid digitization system would be good-- R&C is downloadable, but there's no way for me to convert my UMD disk into a download, which means there's another copy out there on the used market. Two, if they would allow PSP to keep multiple account certificates at once, like the PS3 does, not only would they make an annoying process go away, they'd be making money from me buying games in other regions! There's very little that would need to be done for the first, and practically none for the second, and basically no downside if done properly.

I know one point we can all agree on though:
SCEA fails.
I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I was just imagining myself saying all of that to my friends to get them to play it.
Anyway, I've never played most of those games (oddly, Out of this World being an exception) and I don't think most people try to explain games by association with a conglomeration.
To me, the easy way to describe it is something like "It's the one game that shows video games can be art. Ico is beautiful and touching and absolutely brilliant."
Bias? Sure. But not untrue.
Also: SCEA fails.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"
Ugh, cancel all that. They do provide a way to link accounts, but it's kind of hidden. Now, they're telling me all my accounts are already linked to a different EA account. FML.
Still, whoever thought this shit up needs to be shot. It's a lot more fucking complicated than it needs to be. XBL allows you to redeem codes through the firmware, so there's no need to make you redeem them through the game, or through a completely separate website which then needs you to link your gamertag to an EA account, which requires a few other things. God damn.

I hate that EA Linking crap, I had problems when trying to look at my Bad Company and Battlefield 1943 info back when I bought them awhile back. I also had some problems with Fight Night Round 4 if I remember right.

My problem is that they never asked me to log into my EA account while playing compatible games. They just auto-logged into something, which, I'm assuming, is some BS account they created on the fly to accommodate me. Both Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 require you to press a button to be automatically logged in, if you have that preference disabled, and doesn't provide a single place to configure anything.
EA's website doesn't help either. If they're tying my accounts up, they should give me a place where I sort it all out.
This is yet more evidence that they should stop doing this "preorder" and "incentive" crap and just put this stuff in the fucking game like they were supposed to. This is the shit I have to look forward to with PS3 and 360 :/
Is it any wonder I find DS, PSP and last-gen games more appealing? Maybe I will just get a Wii and wait for the rest of the industry to stop doing it wrong.
Playing Mass Effect for the first time, I was so wrapped up in FFXI that I never bothered to pick this up. Have both ME and ME2 now so it should keep me from FFXI for a few days =P
