  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

For the first time ever I am playing a mage build character in Demon's Souls.

Firestorm is so god damn broken. Even in new game+ I am one shotting bosses with it.

I am finding PvP a lot more fun as a mage, though. Getting in people's faces and swinging a +5 weapon enchanted with Curse was pretty easy, but hitting someone intelligent with magic is actually a challenge. I find myself having to actually use tactics and mind games to kill people with magic.

Then again, there are still people who pump all their points into strength and endurance, ignore vitality and charge at me with the biggest god damn sword they can find just to walk into Firestorm and get one shotted. Son, I am disappoint.

There are a lot of dirty tricks involving firestorm. As a mage-build character I had not problem using it when people invaded my world. They always sent me angry messages afterward, but it's my world they're breaking into so it's my rules. Besides, it's not like I want them there in the first place. I'm entitled to do whatever I must to rid my world of invaders.

Fights between melee builds were always a problem unless I had somebody else with me. Even then, a small mistake one of us could be dead. It always came down to evading and healing, which dragged things out.

When I stopped playing Demon's Souls, I still hadn't beat the game and I had 6 different characters. >_>

But of those characters, I find it funny that my Magician origin was my best melee.

I did some reading up on Demon's Souls it looks fun. I'm just stuck now trying to decide whether to get a new game, either Dragon Age or Demons Souls, or just wait for ffxiii to come out in March.

I do hope you don't mean Romancing SaGa: Minstrel's Song, because I'm finding that to be a lot of fun, despite (or maybe even partly because of) the series's legendary extreme nonlinearity. Probably talking about Xenosaga, maybe Unlimited Saga, in rare cases, Metal Saga.

I was referring to Xenosaga. The series just had no good direction or vision to it.

I know some people say they only played it for the story, but damn, I have to question your status as a human soul if you could endure the tripe that was Xenosaga II just to get to Xenosaga III. It should have just been an anime concept from start to finish. It eventually became that and it still wasn't that great.

Digital Devil Saga had the benefit of a consistent vision, probably helped that they were developed so close together and on the same budget.

I'm on the final dungeon now. I don't know how you have a final dungeon where they placed it, but its just as surreal as anything you'd see from SMT: Nocturne.

Well, I blame SE for that in large, or at least partially. Xenosaga was originally intended to be a prequel to Xenogears, but SE, despite publicly stating they had no plans to revisit the series ever, told Bandai they couldn't have the license. So instead they had to come up with some new filled with vague references/homage to gears.

I enjoyed the series over all, but they pretty well destroyed the gameplay in 2 and 3. There was nothing wrong with the 1st game's system, we didn't need the stupid wheel of random bull crap. The story got a little weird in some parts of 2 as well but again over-all I thought it was brilliant ^^

God forbid a story might actually force you to really think or even look something up once in a while (much like in gears, Xenosaga had very strong Christian influences in the story & cast.) Albedo was also one of the more interesting characters I've seen in some time (if a bit creepy).

So looking up something in the Bible came easy for you in relation to Xenogears, but digging through a beastiary that was right there in FFXII for background was asking too much of you?

Lots of games, such Fallout 3 and Shin Megami Tensei, make reference to the Bible. Even if you're anti-religion to the core, its got some good material for thematic devices. Its not exactly anything new, though good use of it can be clever. I mean, even Satanism wouldn't have much material to go on without it.

                      Xenosaga was fuckwin.

Xenosaga 2 was fucking cold diarrhea coming out of my dick tier.

                      Xenosaga 3 was pretty alright.

I don't know who was making the decisions when they got to Xenosaga 2 but they sure fucked it up in every way they possibly could. Luckily they were smart enough to include a story summary of the second game with Xenosaga 3 so you don't actually have to play that trash to keep up with what's going on.

                          Significantly more.

Xenosaga had a direction until episode II when everyone went all hissy fit, left and those that remained were told to wrap it up in 3 instead of 6. It could have been great, and Episodes 1 and 3 were fun.

just DLed and played the Lunar: SSH Demo. Very happy XSeed kept the humor from Working Designs original translation. I can't say that with 100% certainty, but it sure seems like its the same. There isn't a world map anymore, but that just may be the demo.

I sctually wished they had made some effort to update the voice overs and story. The presentation was always the most bland element of Lunar. The hero is just a little too squeaky-clean, even for a kid. Also, they didn't seem to compensate for PSP's wider screen on the cutscenes.

What I played of the demo was a nice upgrade from the PSOne version, some nice addtions here and there. The combat felt better, but stii cryptic in some respects .Still probably the most unneeded remake ever, though. They need to work on taking the series forward rather than backward.
