Wasn't that the one where you used the dog to hold things off while you ran, though?

Ehh, sorta. When you walk into a room and there's a bunch of midgets with scissors, your doggy barks and gets their attention and stuff. You can stay and fight, in which case you're gonna want to work with the dog so he doesn't just get chopped. Or, since you're just trying to get back to this section's Magical Locked Door, you just use his barking distraction to let you run through.

Since he'll be with you whenever you enter a new room, it's like it never happened! Or... something. But as you can see, that's much less a "how the game is played" and much more of a "things you can do to speed the game up."

The game was fascinating, but as for me, it drove me crazy every time there was yet another cutscene where my character wouldn't stand up for herself.

Little over halfway on Spirit Tracks now (at least I think so, but the game could throw a few curveeballs). Its been more challenging than some of the previous Zeldas (so you'll actually see a death sequence for Link this time), but its been more of a test of wit and dexterity with items. Also helps they brought back some of the more classic enemies with all their nasty tricks.

I'm on the second story path of five for Clash of Heroes and while I wouldn't say its distinctly like Advance Wars, it does have that fixed CO story element that will either make it awesome or frustrating for single player when you get the next character

Basically, Godric is your master of defensive play, which means he kinda sucks. I already like the archer Anwen's path better. She was more of an all-arounder. Plus her vine walls strengthened per turn. But there are three characters left to check out, so I'll grin and deal with Godric, even if he kinda sucks.

I think Ochiudo's Kote has a way lower drop rate than every pure ore that isn't Bladestone :p Pure ores have something like an 18% drop rate from crystal geckos.

I think From Software just forgot to put Pure Bladestone somewhere in the game other than the drop. Every other pure ore is a freebie, but Pure Bladestone only drops from two mobs, one of which only shows up with pure black world tendency, and it's supposedly less than a 1% drop rate. Demon's Souls is the only game I ever bothered trying to get all the trophies for and Pure Bladestone is the only reason I don't have the platinum trophy.

Just have to do what everybody else does, kill that first skeleton under PBWT and restart. I've had a hard time with any kind of ore, especially marrowstone and suckerstone.

Just finished up the main stories of Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. Both were fun and not terribly hard, though that was the same for 3 and 4. Can't wait to get started on the Bonus dungeons.

Playing through Pokemon Emerald for the hell of it. Had it for the longest time and never really started it. I'm a generation behind, but maybe I'll pick up platinum soon. Holding out on playing Tales of Eternia until after I graduate (which is Saturday!!!!!!!!!! O.o).

One thing I've picked up on from the 2 Star Ocean remakes

Picked up Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain for DS because I had been curious about it for weeks, I'm only dabbling with it for now, but it was cool the gamebook it was based on was a bonus with it. I didn't pre-order, but they still gave me the book since no one else picked it up.

It plays a little fast and loose with the book, but the world is conformed to the aspects of the book in a more Elder Scrolls kind of presentation. I was kinda surprised to see the game was running at 60 FPS on DS. Its played in first person and has nice bit of atomosphere to it.

And like any western RPG themed around "tower" crawling, it has "open the door - you're dead" encounters aplenty. So yeah, given this is more of an action RPG, prep/buff/ready offensive magic before opening the door.

They also cribbed some notes from the DS Zelda games and Etrian Odyssey, you can make notations on the map and it saves that info for reference, in case you die for opening a door. I would appreciate it if the Autosave feature took place before door openings rather than after. I'd rather be able to get the jump on them rather than the other way around.

But that one issue aside, its fun so far.

I didn't mind Welch in SO3. But someone needs to get skullfucked for SO4's iteration.

Butt fugly and equally annoying, she was just plain offensive all around. Could have seriously done without her. Apart from her, I enjoyed So4 thoroughly and I pray good taste will prevail should Tri-Ace make another.

                        • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Just finished the fourth part of the Spirit Tower and ready to move on to the fourth temple in Zelda Spirit Tracks now. This is the best Zelda game I have played since Majora's Mask and Minish Cap. Its got the right mix of intuitive play, challenging puzzles and combat.

I never got to get far into Phantom Hourglass, but I think I was often too fatigued from my last job to get into a Zelda frame of mind, so I think I'm gonna restart that one as a follow-up. What's great about Spirit Tracks, though, is that how puzzles are solved are so distinctly different from other installments of the series, but come off feeling something that could still be distinctly Zelda.

There are two items in the game that make you blow on the microphone. One is the Spirit Flute - which is pretty much the ocarina except you actually get to play it like an instrument. The other is this wind fan in which you have to blow on the mic to generate whirlwinds for many purposes. If you remember the Rope Snake from Earthbound/Mother, Link gets to use that as a whip. The standard boomerang also makes an appearance, but it sees a lot more use than usual, even getting pulled into platforming elements in the game.

Zelda getting to take over Phantoms is also well-integrated and fun. Unlike some of Link's other sidekicks, she often feels like a real helper rather than an obnoxious nag.

I read in a recent interview with Aonuma, he talked about his son's excitement for the game and his son asked him that based off the boat in Phantom Hourglass and Train in Spirit Tracks that surely, next time Link will be able to fly! Aonuma smiled and said, "Hm, maybe."

In the past couple of days since finals have ended I have started and finished the following:

                            F.E.A.R.
                            F.E.A.R. 2
                            Lost Planet

F.E.A.R. 1 was pretty cool, a bit dated now but it was still a lot of fun and decently long. The fact that it is actually kind of scary to play made it a bit more fun too.

F.E.A.R. 2 pretty much got the Modern FPS 2 treatment. It was about half the length of the first game, incredibly easy and they removed the ability to lean. It was also a lot less scary than the first game because Alma is no longer a creepy little girl, she's all grown up and has a damn fine body. I actually looked forward to her showing up. Despite all the game's flaws I genuinely enjoyed it quite a bit and I look forward to a 3rd game.

Yeah, I'd hit that. It might almost be worth the violent death that would follow.

Lost Planet... well, fuck. It was fun, but painfully easy and less than 5 hours long. The PC version is also another shitty and fucking lazy 360 to PC port, so the graphics aren't optimized at all and all of the controls are labeled with a 360 controller in mind. Hey assholes who ported the game, if I wanted to play the game with 360 graphics and a 360 controller I would fucking play it on my 360. That was actually the only challenging part of the game, having to press every button on my keyboard trying to figure out which one is the one I am looking for. Aside from all that, my biggest problem with the game was the story progression. It felt like they tried to wing it and throw it together as they went along so the entire game just felt loosely thrown together with almost no character development or any real interaction between characters.

Sadly, none of these games were on my list. I just picked them up on a whim. My enormous list of games I never feel like playing remains untouched for now.

After about a month,i finally put some time into Borderlands. From the get go, i was very impressed. I like the idea behind the game, and the FPS/RPG mix it had. I spent about 3 or 4 days playing, awesome story, i liked the different classes, and the customization available for the classes. Only thing i disliked was the end boss. The DLC released for it is pretty fun, gotta zombies. I'd definatly suggest it to others to pick up.

The end boss was a real disappointment. No epic battle, no epic loot, no epic ending. GG.
