  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Since this is apparently where all the Dissidia conversations are going...

    YE DISSIDIA FOLKE:

does that game play as much like Budokai as it looks and sounds like it does?

Oh, I know, it's 3rd person, not like a fighting game at all or whatever. So the camera gives it a more action game feel. Whatever.

But trivial normal attacks, super powered special attacks (WITH MINI-GAMES BUILT IN FOR MAX DAMAGE!), extra bars or numbers all over the place (HP, Brave, Ex, Rogain). Hell, the "Ex" modes themselves? AKA Super Saijan?

Having played those games and many games like it, I'm hoping that's not how Dissidia plays. But I'm not hopeful.

Not really. There are similarities about some aspects of the gameplay but it's like saying Street Fighter is the same as King of Fighters because characters in both games use their fists.

Also, DB is pretty 2D no matter where you are. While Disidia feels more like Zone of the Enders (or Ace Frontier.) Plus the environment there (and commands associated to it) actually plays a big role in many fights.

Dissidia plays more like a more open-roaming Power Stone in my opinion.

Not that being like Power Stone is a bad thing, mind you!

Power Stone 2 is still the single greatest fighting game of all time.

          Though Dissidia comes damn close.

Beat Shade Impulse last night as Terra. Blizzara+Meltdown (and a little Riot Blade)>Chaos. I did get hit with Judgment once, but I returned the favor in kind by smashing him into the walls repeatedly. Working on Lady of Legend to get everyone's favorite professor.

Playing Tales of Legendia was well. Its not as terrible as I thought it would be based off of peoples reactions. Sure its not as good as Symphonia, Abyss or Vesperia, but I am enjoying it.

Also snagged Tales of Eternia off of Ebay for only $55. Not bad since there were some sales going for nearly $100. Not sure when I'll get to play it, since I am really backlogged on games and Scribblenaughts and KH: Days are coming out this month.

Is the 3rd Impulse the last?

I'm getting sick of the some of the AI's bullshit. Lv 94 Squall and it a level 30-something can still kick me around with instant counters/dodges to the point I want to throw my PSP at the wall...

Wall rush into the stage floor right off the bat followed by a very fast Aerial Circle (while the bitch is still incapacitated) manages to instantly counter me and whack a good chunk of my HP... with a magic attack no less... F OFF. I try that crap and I die.

That's what you get for cheating your way to a higher level instead of learning how to fight.

                  Yea, DIAF.

And, instead of dividing your PSP by zero, which would cause what my imagination tells me is an explosion of epic proportions, not unlike that of the fist of an angry god, instead of doing all that, angrily throw it into a box with a preprinted shipping label on it and send it directly to my house. I want to get down on some fucking Dissidia, too.

                  Fuck.

Mal, if you pay attention to the game, there are several ramped-up level 30s and higher with special rare NPC-only items that can achieve special conditions.

Instead of trying to attack these guys in the same ways over and over, you need to find an HP attack with the best chance of catching the evasive ones. For example, you'd want to corner someone with Terra and do Tornado, but be prepared to guard going in. The Bartz rare battle piece can be an annoying bitch, but that's why the game is just as much a battle with the environment as it is the opponent - use the terrain to your advantage.

If you think this is bad, just wait until you get to inward chaos. If you haven't learned to block/evade and set skills by then, you're really in some trouble.

And Chaos fights dirty no matter how many levels higher you are than he is.

                    • Re: What games are you currently playing?

It's not like I don't know how to fight you know.

For example, most of the mage characters are frozen in place when they attack, leaving them WIDE OPEN for Rough Divide, or the guys who like to dodge a lot I can usually catch them by firing a blasting zone to trip them up, then immediately dodge + a 2nd BZ and it will catch them off guard. I don't just charge in blindly mashing away @ Square/Circle (well, except for when I can 1-shot them >_>)

But they still manage to pull of BS the player can't, like repeated dodging or instantly dodging after an attack when there's a slight delay for the player (I have been through this enough to know for a god damn fact the AI can pull moves off faster than players are allowed to. No amount of skill can change what is hard coded into the game)

I experienced the ultimate BS last night while trying to level up Shantotto (which btw, OMG I love her SO MUCH ^^ she wiggles her butt when she walks too! Bio is rather slow though and they could have extended the range of Stun)

                      Was EXP'ing against a minimal strength Warrior of Light. Well, he goes to use Shield of Light so immediately air-dodge to get behind him to smack him with Retribution to set him up for a Brave Break. Now here's the janky part;

While he is still in the attack animation, he manages to not only block my attack but counter and launch me. Um, wtf? I'm pretty god damn sure you can't block while still in the animation lock of an HP attack...

<.< Chaos was a joke LOL. 1st two rounds I just hit blasting zone right off the bat and 1-shotted him. 3rd round he actually got away in time but I still caught him eventually with an Aerial Circle within the 1st 15 seconds for another 1-shot kill. EXP->BRV is such a bad ass skill.

Just beat Shadow Complex at 100% complete. Good game, but the controls are often unresponsive, clumsy, and sluggish. If you're into side-scrolling games, or games where you're rewarded for exploring, then you should check this game out.

For those achievement-minded individuals, you can get a little over half of them with a sane amount of effort. Others will require you to beat it at only 13% completion, or 100% completion in under 2 hours, or at 4% completion in under 3 hours on the hardest difficulty. You get one achievement for defeating the first boss, which is hardly an achievement considering the circumstances, but there are no others for any other boss in the game. There are some fun combat achievements.

The game is actually a prequel to Orson Scott Card's sequel book to EMPIRES. While the game was fun and fantastic in that fantasy/sci-fi way, it just doesn't feel like it would make a good prequel to any book. The chick you're dating invites you up to explore some caves. OHNOES AN EVIL GROUP BENT ON CONQUERING THE WORLD. It's time for the one many army to save the day, but is your girl who she really says she is?

Well, now Terra, Cecil and Shantotto are level 100 in Dissidia. If I'm to take my Ghost rating to mean anything, it seems the system says I'm best with Shantotto. Think I'm gonna work on Cloud and Kefka next.

Still not bored with it yet, though I've been playing Crisis Core in spurts. Also recently downloaded Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen because I had always heard good things about the original game, but never got to play it. Castlevania SOTN, MGS and FFVII are also occupying the memory stick at the moment.

Picked up Monster Hunter Freedom Unite last week, but haven't had much time to put into it other than learn bows suck ass. I need to figure out how to set up an ad hoc network for this thing, though. I can set up games of that type on the DS easy enough (after some waiting, anyway), but apparently PSP needs some kind of rain dance to play with other people

DS I'm still on FFIV, retreading Devil Survivor for new paths and watching Flipnotes.

                          Scribblenauts this week.
                          Persona next week.

                          Woo!

I'm at the last save point in FFX. Gonna beat that in the next few days. I've been playing the game on and off for a year. And I'm even unemployed.

Legacy of Kain is an amazing series, both the Kain & Raziel sides/games.

Playing the Section 8 Demo and really, desperately trying to give it a decent chance but so far all I feel is hatred for the unbalanced piece of raw shit that it is.

Beat the main story of Tales of Legendia. Just started the character quests. Shirley's spells are very...pink.

Just have Inward Choas left for story mode of Dissidia. Then after that its just leveling and farming...

And there is still the huge back log of games I have and will be adding to.

14 weeks to go until I'll have all the free time in the world, for a few months anyway.
