  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

    Armando, you never played CC?
Sadly, no. Let's just say I know who the big bad is, now. Which of course makes me go "Uh, wow. What's all this?" Seriously wasn't expecting anything more than vaguest allusions to CC. Caught me off guard completely.

Thing is I only asked for games twice a year - on my birthday and on Christmas (actually, I still more or less do this when I'm not playing pirated games.) I remember seeing a CC commercial on TV and it blew my mind, but I likely had more important things to ask for on my next gift-receiving holiday.

Don't worry, I've already been told about all the things I may hate about it.

Actually, I liked CC. I've played through it a few times instead of buying new games. Actually, I'm considering playing it again.

Yeah, I've met quite a few people that liked it, but most had pretty similar complaints about it too.

Not looking forward to having 50 playable characters, lol. I've heard things about the battle system, too. A friend of mine hates it, Lmnop seems to love it.

You have to use new game + to go all pokemon about it. It's been too long since I last played it so I can't remember any complaints, I just remember liking the game.

FF4 DS atm, since everything else is packed up for moving back to my on campus apartment tomorrow. Have 4 PSP games (Crisis Core, Star Ocean 1 and 2, Tales of the World: RM1) lined up for when I get it tomorrow w/Dissidia, so go those to waste my time with.

Having a hell of a time trying to find a European copy of Tales of Eternia, since either people are asking for $100+ or won't ship it to the US. Even Amazon UK won't ship it to the US even though Amazon US had sold it for a time...Might just have to buckle down and get the JPN version from Play Asia.

Finished Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World today. It could have been a lot better if they had put some more effort into it, but I still enjoyed it.

Aside from the always ongoing Monster Hunter I am not sure what to start up next. Might go with Baten Kaitos Origins since I've been using the Wii a lot recently anyway, but playing that game always reminds me of how much they ruined the battle system from the 1st game and that's usually enough to turn me off from playing it.

In the middle of FFIV DS, made sure to get Rydia Ashura and Leviathan shortly after returning to the underworld for the second part of the Tower of Babil.

Weird how the felt the need to change the naming of that. Babel works just fine, not like changing one letter escapes the biblical reference. And Summons are now "eidolons" The land of summons is now The Feymarch.

Poor Namingway also no longer can rename people since the names are all spoken in cutscenes, so they have him running around the game finding new professions. I like Recordingway the best so far, he lets me replay cutscenes. Since inventory was also no longer an issue, Fat Chocobo's function had to change as well. But then, storing everything inside him before was a disturbing thought anyway.

Starting back on Devil Survivor and pretty much crushing every fight, I've yet to get to the pivotal decision point again.

Picking up my PSP with Dissidia in the morning. I'll probably get Crisis Core later in the week and download FFVII off PSN as well, just to get the game back again.

Soon there will be much kicking the asses of Clod and Mama's Boy via Cecil, Shantotto and Kefka.

I liked CT okay and so gave CC an honest try years ago... hated it with a fiery passion. I still think Tanaka should be ashamed of that PoS...

Finally getting around to playing Bioshock. Good game, though so far I find it highly over rated. It's a well-made game and but it's just not captivating me as I thought it would (Dead Space was the last game I played that really gripped me. Halo Wars and InFamous came close but were each lacking just a little)

Also downloaded the Dissida demo off the PSN... can't wait to head out to EB later today and pick it up along with Batman:AA ^^

Currently I'm still royally pissed off that Star Ocean 3 keeps overheating my PS3. I was having a good run of it weeks ago until the game kept freezing on me - _ -' (it had happened a few times prior but that was always after a very long session... something about the Moonbase part of the game just forces my PS3 to go into overdrive and I wish Sony would fix this shit.)

I found some vids of the English version online. The main sites didn't seem interested in covering Shantotto much, but it was nice to hear her battle theme is "Awakening" which suits the game perfectly.

And as expected, she rhymes. Though in battle her insults are just a bit more abrupt, but they are things she would say, like "Total loser." And she insults Cloud's hair, calling it a distraction. She sounded like bitter school teacher, which is just about right. And all the taru emotes are there, too. She pulls an /amazed on Kefka pre-battle, to which he turns around and smacks his ass.

Speaking of Kefka I'm amazed at how well his VA performed (as opposed to his JP voice which is just god awful)

Also, beat Bioshock. It was interesting, if a little melodramatic. Can't wait for the 2nd.

Man what the hell is wrong with you.

I started CC two days ago. I'm liking it so far. Only thing is, while the combat system is pretty neat, my God is it poorly documented. Of course I'm already close to figuring everything out but that's besides the point.

But the presentation is stellar (cutscenes, environments, menus, music, everything is great and the visuals are leagues ahead of FF7/8/9), the character designs are a nice diversion from the traditional "hurr durr spiky hair, belts and zippers, oversized sword!" RPG protagonist and all associated clichés, and no random battles + being able to run 100% of the time + being offered to use up your unused Magic points (which would otherwise be wasted) for Cures after each fight = pure secks.

Unless you were continuously irked by not knowing how to work the battle system fully, which I could understand, I don't see how you could possibly find so many flaws and reasons to hate the game, much less call it garbage. It was clearly made with love and I'll gladly take this over FF1-4 (possibly excluding 4DS) any day of the week. (Obviously it's unfair to compare them at a graphical and musical level, but CC's gameplay is still leagues ahead of ATB and random battles, and its plot doesn't run on as much cliché and cheesiness.)

Its also unfair to compare them in context to what their systems had access to on all fronts, CC is a completely different game. For whatever reason, though, I just didn't care for CC like I did CT.

I can't fault anyone for getting turned off by some of the original Final Fantasy's fucktarded encounter rates. Even in the most recent versions they remain intact. You turn one corner in a dungeon there and its turns into an encounter-per-step affair.

Got Dissidia, lovin' it. Currently have only played Cecil and Tidus in-depth thus far. I'd post more, but it ate up all my time and now I have to go to work.

You lost me here. Can you rephrase that? I'm not sure which comparison we're talking about here (CT vs CC or FF1-4 vs CC.)

                                I didn't like it ok?

As far as I can remember, I got to the point where Serge has to sneak into some hideout or something at night I think. The battle system was very annoying. I had a friend who owned the game explain it to me but that still didn't change things. Annoying battle music + weird system + a story that I just didn't find engaging at all = don't care for the game.

The game is garbage in my eyes and will remain so, but if you like it then good for you, I'm not gonna stop anyone from having fun enjoying that game; that's the whole point of a game. But you're not going to convince me, ever, that it was any good.
