I'm torn if I want to pick that up this week, it'll be a few weeks before I even had time to touch it really, I'm only like 3 hours deep into DWGR, and I don't know if I want to commit to MMO-style time for anything anymore. One of the main reason I got into the fighting games to begin with was how easy it was to set firm break points and say 'okay, 2 more matches and I done', etc.

Again I have no fucking clue what you are talking about with variety of abilities. You basically had one maybe two Weapon Skills and one or two spells that were relevant at any given level. Everything else was either obsolete or niche. For BLM and RDM it was spam your best level Thunder or Blizzard Spell. For WHM it was use whatever Cure spell wouldn't pull hate plus Regen and Stoneskin. For physical/ranged classes it was spam whatever multi hit weapon skill you are geared for. For SCH and SMN it was 2 hour and win the entire fight. There was no depth or choice in abilities at all.

Contrast FFXIV where every single one of my abilities is relevant. Even stuff like Lethargy on my BLM is actually relevant as a filler ability to weave when proc fishing even if the boss resists it. So many abilities and spells in XI were redundant at 75-99 or were just too niche to care about (-na spells, barspells sadly became this too at 99). Even Thunder I has a use. It is essential for burn phases in PvE, and is the go to spell for DoTing people up in PvP.

And SMN works fine in XIV. How else should they have done it without making it more boring to play than it already is? It is already the best DPS class in the game, and requires very little micro outside of "Place the pet here", "Put Ifrit on Manual when fighting things that need to be stunned" and "Remember to hit Contagion every 60 seconds". If they made it so it works like Summoner in FF games, it would be completely unusable. It would either be stupidly overpowered, or only able to attack every minute or so.

To translate for Aks: SMN (and Arcanist) is basically a Demo Lock on Steroids capable of soloing just about anything with the tank pet. People are butt hurt that it plays like a traditional MMO Mage pet class (Pet does majority of your damage, player puts up DoTs and spams low damage nukes), and isn't a class that summons something that wipes the entire screen every encounter. Apparently the clunky as hell pet system in XI is preferable, probably because pets in that game scaled too well and wiped the entire screen every pull post Abyssea.

I'm currently stuck in a loop with Baldur's Gate 2. There's too many classes and party configurations I want to run through so I'm having trouble picking one and seeing it through to the end.

BLM is hilariously fun in Frontlines if you play it like a Frost Mage actually. Freeze is a 15 Second AoE Bind, Blizzard puts a silly snare effect on people, and having two AoE Sleep spells is always amusing. That, and Double Flareing bad MNKs and DRGs that wasted the LB on your Manawall never gets old. Actually got a double kill putting that shit off, with the final DRG just stood in place, even though I was at 0 MP and obviously waiting on mana ticks (so basically a free kill).

Good groups gank the BLM first, because if they are spamming fire, they are a free kill, if they are actually using Ice Spells and playing support, they are unholy terrors.

Gauntlet interested me until I realised how fast it was forced through Early Access. Then I realised I own both Torchlght 2 and the PS4 Diablo 3 and realised why I didn't give a flying fuck about Gauntlet in the beginning.

I was called an idiot today for pointing out to someone that Caveat Emptor does not apply to Steam Early Access, nor does it give Valve the right to dismiss the statutory rights of the consumer.

Thing is, Early Access is actually illegal in the UK under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the the Misrepresentation Act 1969. I'm sure that there are similar laws in the US too, but Value does not give a shit about the law.

Actually not offering refunds and downloaded or streamed content is illegal in the UK as well. The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 extended the right to a refund from Distance Selling to cover downloads and streaming content. It and many EU countries doing the same is why even EA fucking EA, offers refunds for games in Origin for any reason.

Basically according to UK law, you have a 14 Day cooling-off period where you are entitled to a full refund as long as you have not hit that download button. However, you must have given your express consent for this to happen and acknowledged that this would mean that you would lose your right to cancel. EA actually goes beyond what is required by law for the consumer by letting you get a refund for games you already downloaded.

Also in the UK when you buy by distance sale, you also have the same legal rights as you would if you had bought the goods or service in a shop. These rights are covered by the Sale of Goods Act and the Supply of Goods and Services Act.

Basically Valve are officially worse than EA. But Saint Gaben is above criticism and the law apparently.

I'm just in a Yggdrasil Labyrinth, drawing some maps. Feels like Etrian Odyssey Untold has more FOEs (basically NMs) than I remember the original having.

Yeah you really should be using a variety of vendors. The problem with using Steam exclusively is more the absurd amount of power it gives Valve when you default to buying from them. I know I'm guilty of it myself. Just take one look at my Steam games sometime and you will know I own way too many steam games.

The utter flood of early access and similar garbage on Steam as of late has helped a lot oddly enough. There's simply too much trash to wade through so I've just sort of stopped buying games as of late and wandered back to old favorites, many of which happen to be in my GoG library as gifts from people who know my gaming history. It's great. Do you have any idea how many hours of my life I have lost to the Baldur's Gate series? It's unreal how much replay value there is in that game.
