  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Finally got around to finishing The Last of Us. Amazing ending to an amazing game. Definitely the best game I've played on a console this past generation.

Very close to a platinum trophy on Dragon's Crown. 2 more campaigns to complete (Elf and Sorceress) and I'll be done. Vanillaware did an awesome job on this game (even with the oversexualized character designs).

Tinkered around with Kickbeat, which is a pretty cool (and challenging) rhythm game. It's like Audiosurf with martial arts.

After that it's time to start in on my backlog: Dynasty Warriors 8, Ducktales Remastered, Disney Infinity, Rayman Legends, Tales of Xillia... oh and I've got Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix and Puppeteer now too, along with Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Fortunately nothing else gets added on my plate until October.

So anyone know the process to get a Steam refund? Total War: Rome II is an unplayable mess right now and is an abomination.

This is the only honest review for the game I have found so far and sums up every problem i have had with the game well:

      Rahal Gerrant - Balmung - 188 DRK
      Reiko Takahashi
      - Balmung - 182 AST, 191 BLM, 182 SCH, 188 SMN

Well, I jut bought a 3DS XL on impulse... which would be a first for me considering I always go through a heavy decision process on anything I buy. Nope, today I browsed Gamestop trying to kill time, looked at the 3DS on the shelf, thought about it for a few seconds, and went up to the counter. Makes me feels kind of tingly.

Ah well, I was planning on getting Pokemon X/Y eventually. I haven't bought a Pokemon game since Gold/Silver, so this will be quite the adventure.

In the mean time, any suggestions on some games both new and old? I'll likely grab Ocarina 3D later, but right now the choices seem overwhelming, because I missed every single DS title since release.

I don't know how hardcore you like your RPGs, but I would recommend Fire Emblem Awakening to anyone since its got a nice, long campaign, is newbie-friendly with Casual Mode (though permadeath in normal mode makes the story more personal) and has a charming cast of characters with co-op attacks and relationship-building. Its a strategy RPG, but the pacing is pretty good and the game has a lot of heart.

It has downloadable demo on the Nintendo eShop and there are many others there, so take some time to sign up and check them out.

You've also probably heard me gush about Shin Megami Tensei IV. Its a bit more brutal and much darker than most things you'd find on 3DS. i'll just leave a video here:

Both of those, Animal Crossing, Project X Zone, Etrian Odyssey Untold and Etrian Odyssey IV will give you the best bang for your buck before Pokemon X/Y this year, but Fire Emblem Awakening is the one I'd feel comfortable recommending to anyone.

As for some cheap downloadable gamess, Pushmo is a great little puzzle gamss with hundreds of puzzles to solve and share, Gunman Clive is a fun Mega Man-ish western and the Mighty Swtch Force games are excellent.

I didn't care for the ending of Last of Us at all. Just felt like a tacked on dick move. It's still one of the top 5 games of the PS3 ever made and I'm glad I own it - I just did not care for the ending and felt a bit cheated. It was all pretty good up until that last little scene... bleh. F Joel.

Playing the demo for Diablo 3 on 360, and I have to say it's not bad. I still prefer using Mouse & KB for the ranged classes, but overall the experience is OK. Dunno if I'll get the PS4 version when it comes out, might just opt for the expansion on PC (it's actually looking quite good) and save myself some cash. That is, unless I get a decent following on Twitch and folks wanna see it, then all bets are off.

Speaking of PS4, really hoping Mighty No.9 can make that 3.2 mil stretch goal. I don't want the game for PS3/360, I want it for PS4 - maybe Steam, would rather have it for PS4 though.

I will second Fire Emblem Awakening. it is a very enjoyable game.

If you do like challenging RPGs then check out the Atlus Library Etrian Odyssey IV, Soul Hackers, Devil Survivor Overclocked are all great. SMT IV isn't out here but I'm sure it's great.

Finished the platinum on Dragon's Crown. Damn you Vanillaware and your addictive gameplay! First Muramasa and now Dragon's Crown.

Still making progress on Kickbeat for PSVita... finished the first 3 difficulties and now Master difficulty is kicking my butt. Randomized patterns means you have to sight-read every song. I'm getting the hang of it but progress is slow.

Moved on to Puppeteer on PS3. Such a charming and beautiful game. Wonderfully tight controls, some real ingenuity in the level design, and a lot of polish all over the place. This game is an excellent example of how good late-generation exclusive games can be. It's not perfect, but it's very, very good.

Chose not to buy Grand Theft Auto V. Am fully expecting a superior PC port at some point, as well as a superior PS4 version, and my backlog is long enough to where it wouldn't do anything but sit on my shelf anyhow.

Fortunately I have pretty much a whole month of non-releases to catch up on said backlog, aside from Batman in October.

Picked up Rogue Legacy in the final hour of its Steam Sale. Getting my lineage's butts systematically kicked whilst questing for achievements.

The Decidophobia achievement in particular is a huge pain in the butt. There are two skills that I still need from my manor that each cost ~5500 gold a piece. The closest I've gotten to farm on a single run was ~5300, which alone probably made that the most heartbreaking death yet.

I was torn for a while. whether or not to get BF3 for PS3 and then pay the $10 to get the "digital upgrade" for PS4.

Then I found out BF4 is out Nov 1st, while PS4 launches on the 15th. Assuming it's a launch title (and why shouldn't it be?) that's only a 2 week gap. Enough for people to unlock a fair amount of stuff sure and get used to the maps, but not so long as to leave me royally screwed. So I'm gonna wait and just get the PS4 version and stream that bad boy fresh :D

Haven't heard from my buddy in a while, we were supposed to start our Ultimate Vault Hunter run on BL2.

Finally beat Rogue Legacy. That was fun.

Started playing Dark Souls for the first time. This game could really use a better tutorial/intro stage.

You'll thank them for the rough edges by the time you get close to the top of the chapel. Everyone knows the value of a good defensive approach and how to evade by the time they get there and want to co-op the fight. Any other approach and it could have been a chaotic noobfest, but From Software made the right call to give people a rough gauntlet to push through and learn every facet of the game before letting you get too crazy with co-op.

Think of it like the first level to Megaman X, except that level takes a few hours and will crush everyone's pride before they finish it.

I dunno, I thought them throwing you against a house sized monster with nothing but a broken sword hilt made for a fairly amusing intro of what to expect.
