I didn't get to finish DMC Devil May Cry, so it'll have to sit to the side for a while. Because Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is everything I had hoped it would be. The beginning is admittedly a little slow, what with the amount of time you spend running around instead of battling. But once you get into the full swing of things, it's pretty much perfect. It captures that Studio Ghibli feel perfectly.

Yup. It's amazing. Also surprisingly difficult. I just got past the lava boss who was in the demo. He kicked my teeth in several times before I figured out a winning strategy, where as I stomped him flat in the demo.

My son got me slightly addicted to this Facebook game called Dragon City, I can spend about 15 minutes playing it every day, plus it's a way to keep connected with him.

Other than that, still rolling around with the Pandas in WoW, I've always got plenty to do there. I've recently discovered that you don't need a raid group anymore to solo old content, so I've been doing a bunch of old raids I'd never done before. Shit's fun as hell.

What DmC *should* be. I don't get why the PC version can run 60 FPS while consoles are locked to 30 :/

It is locked at 30FPS because only NTSC TVs even display in 60Hz. Everywhere else in the the world not called "America" uses PAL which has a higher definition but the refresh rate is 30Hz and the difference between 30 and 60 FPS is undetectable on those screens because of the refresh rate. They did it because they could easily go for a global release without having to make separate builds for the rest of the world.

Rage targeted 60fps, but in reality it's somewhere between 50 and 60fps. The whole game went from a glorified tech demo to a test bed for new systems. One of the things I think they learned is that it's best to cap the frame-rate at a stable number instead of overreach and kill stability.

Let's not forget how old consoles are, currently. They used hardware that was at least three years old when they were first released, and it's been five or six years since, I believe.

Well, after watching that video & a side by side comparison, it's clear as day to me that combat on the PC version flows a lot smoother than it does on the console version - pretty much on par with DMC 1~4. Not that the new game is necessarily slow, but it is sloppier in comparison. Interestingly, BF3 actually runs at 30 FPS but manages to get away with it through some trickery on DICE's part with the engine I believe. It's kind of surprising really, especially with how hectic Close Quarters was.

As for that "non america" comment, I assume you mean Europe specifically, as 60 FPS is quite common in Canada & Japan, not just the U.S.

PAL is 20% slower (50 Hz) with 20% more lines (576 vs 480 in the SD days.) Either way, changing the code to alter the framerate should be trivial. Hell, if you use VSync you don't even need to touch the code.

It's Unreal Engine 3 running on 7 year old hardware. Considering most console games these days run 720p30 (or even lower), that's a lot to ask out of hardware that old.

I'm sure the next generation DmC title (you know they're going to make one) will be 60fps.

As for me, I'm getting smacked around by a kids game (Ni No Kuni). This game is way harder than I was expecting. The boss fights are imaginative and cool, but holy mother of mercy if you go in under-prepared and/or under-leveled you just get owned.

P.S. @Firewind NTSC/PAL only apply to standard definition TVs. HDTVs all operate at 60Hz or higher, and are region-agnostic.

This game is $%#!ing brilliant. I'm sure it has something to do with it being Level 5. But I'm getting that same great feeling I got when I played Dragon Quest VIII. Compliments to the game.
