Obviously Sony is making progress toward the world of James Bond. :p

On a more serious note, this sounds about as worthless as the Nintendo's Vitality Sensor. At least it's just a patent and not something they've shown on a stage.

I'm actually more interested in seeing if near field technology can be expanded on, particularly since its built into the Wii U controller. I'd like to see it expanded beyond collectible figurines for an action RPG, perhaps expanding to cards as well.

So I finished XCOM on Normal again today, full satellite coverage, never lost an interceptor, never failed a mission, only lost 16 guys the entire campaign. Basically owned it in the face while yawning. Then I started it up again on Classic, figuring I'm ready. This is not even the same game. I'm beginning to understand that "That's XCOM, baby," means you can employ perfectly solid tactics but then just get bent over and hammered by the RNG. I've failed 3 missions already with 11 fatalities between them, all due to factors that as far as I can tell were beyond my control. The council gave me a B for that first month, but I'm having a hard time accepting that this is what doing a decent job looks like.

Well ... according to Steam I've played for 78 hours <_<;; since it released last Tuesday. I've heard the campaign can be completed in as little as 20 hours if you're very efficient, but you can also put off the plot advancement indefinitely and just fly around killing aliens. I did quite a bit of that the second time through to pick up some achievements.

Reunited with Pixie, she's level 80 now, has, 30 in every stat, which is pretty strong. All it really took was tracking her lineage from one fusion to the next but it was still kinda tricky to keep track at times. Her "DNA" was last deposited in Titania, so to speak.

Also, I hired Dante for a dollar, since he didn't want to fight me anymore. He's also level 80. Not a bad deal.

I did some exploration of the mechanics this morning and learned a few things. Mind merge grants a +25% critical bonus, so assuming the plasma pistol has a 10% base crit chance, that means a mind merged sectoid has at least a 35% chance to crit and kill you on a successful hit. Flanking grants a +50% crit bonus, so if they flank you there's a 60-85% chance that you die.

Cover modifies chance to hit by -20% for low cover and -40% for high cover. Subtraction, not multiplication. So if a thin man has an 85% base accuracy (fair guess, I think. 75%+10 from light plasma rifle) then he still has a 45% chance to hit you behind high cover and 65% if you're behind lower cover. Your rookies start with around 65% base accuracy, so if it feels like they're twice as likely to hit you than you are to hit them, that's because that's about right.

Yeah, I switched to Impossible difficulty a few days ago. I'm now at the end of May, having lost Mexico from the council in month 1, but hanging on to everyone else. With lots and lots of reloading, I've managed to put up 8 satellites, have 0 fatalities, and a monthly income of +700 or so net, and have up to 12 sat. capacity, but I now have a problem...

There's a large UFO buzzing around in South Africa, and I just don't have the technology to take it down. Not sure how I should respond at this point... sacrifice an interceptor for no gain? Lose a satellite and hope I can toss another one up? Decisions, decisions...

                    Doing classic/ironman - March 9 - 0 casualties (couple close calls)

                    http://i.imgur.com/f0IZa.jpg < this guy is a boss
http://i.imgur.com/QXT2C.jpg < base build (all of that was already excavated, except the power generator spot)

I researched Weapon Fragments (scope for the heavy/sniper ftw, I like my nades a bit too much for the rest of my guys, at least for now). I have an officer training school in the cooker, along with power generator (and will soon make a workshop when available in order to be able to get more sats out asap)

Not sure what I want to research next.

Xeno-biology, alien materials, experimental warfare, beam weapons, ufo power source

My instinct tells me Beam Weapons or Alien Materials. I'm thinking it's too early to be researching for the ufo power source (flip side is maybe I'll have enough of whatever is needed for their power in that time it takes, but lose out on stronger weapons). Thoughts?

On another note, for ironman at least, maybe medkit isn't all that bad assuming you can use it on other soldiers (equipped on the support guy; wouldn't equip it on more than 1-2 guys max)... especially when you want your key players to not miss out on a mission.

You're a lot better than I am, apparently. I'm on my best classic ironman playthrough so far, and I've only got 3 sats up at the beginning of May, lost China and India in month 1, and I'm totally broke. I can't imagine how I'd have gotten 8. My base is pretty bare bones with only 2 uplinks, a generator on the way, and the OTS. Equipment-wise I've purchased one nano-fiber for my officer, one scope and one laser pistol for my sniper, and one carapace armor I finally acquired from the spare change on my last paycheck. I suppose I could have done without Wet Work, and I lost 7 guys that you didn't at §15 apiece to replace them, but between the two that still only gets me enough to get up to 5 sats.

Definitely don't need to research ufo power source or alien nav computers for a while. If you get Xeno-biology > Arc Thrower, you can capture sectoids and floaters to cut your research time for all beam weapons and blue armor in half. The catch is you have to spend research time interrogating them, but if you're doing as well on sats as IM is, you can throw up a couple in South America and make all your autopsies and interrogations instant.

Medkit can be used on other soldiers, but I wouldn't bother with it until you get a support guy to sergeant and some more hp for your guys. Rookies and squaddies are as likely as not to get oneshat, so putting medkits in squads of them is all but pointless.

                        --- edit ---

Looking through my base, I figured out why I'm broke and you're rich. I have 20 scientists. For the last month and a half I've been choosing abduction missions purely for terror control purposes, and it just happens that every single one had a reward of scientists rather than money. I could have as much as §800 more, which would easily account for the difference. Guess I should be prioritizing money more in the early game. I can use the satellites to combat the terror and get more money in the process.

Just on Minecraft making pixel art. Nothing to be proud of I guess. But it keeps me from worrying to much about the outside world. I can endlessly tinker away at Pixel Art projects.

Finished with SotN, so I'm pretty much bored now. Since I'm gonna be building my new rig in a month, I figure I should play some PC games I've missed over the years. Anyone know any good ones a crappy computer can play?

On Impossible, panic levels are your worst enemy, which is why my satellites are hyper-developed so early (the money is a side-effect). I reloaded and retriggered each abduction mission for the first month until I got exactly what I wanted: Engineers on the first one to get me to 9, which let me build a workshop (6 eng. req.) right away. The workshop gave me 5 more engineers, which let me build my first 2nd satellite uplink (10 eng. req.) before the end of the first month. I literally built nothing else aside from satellites and a single scope for my sniper on before April 1 because finances just didn't allow for it.

I really had to be careful though because I didn't end up building my Officer Training School or Foundry until midway through May, and thus had to clear everything with 4 troops with only basic equipment.

I'm now safely into mid-June and things are much better. I've got 3 troops at maximum rank, 0 fatalities, 9 satellites and am assaulting the enemy base now.
