To be fair, Metal Gear has always had a anime/manga styling, it was just covered with a realistic coat of paint. But walk around Big Shell and it's not really much less colorful than Ac!d.

They must have used a LOT of realistic paint for MGS4. Though everything nowadays likes to make everything a hazey brown because brown = realism apparently.

I think Feba meant its more manga/comic-bookish in theme and material than how it looks. Not to mention the giant robots are always portrayed was these beastial beings. And there's the resurrection of Liquid through the arm grafted on to Ocelot, which is triggered by Ocelot's latent psychic ability (The Boss and The Sorrow were his parents, remember) and the nanomachines in the arm.

See? Comic Book stuff. Not to mention the long monologues before people finally buy the farm.

If you think this is realistic stuff, you need to be cracked on the head with a wooden mallet. Repeatedly.

well, yes, the theme and tone is all comic book, but the visual styling is too, just a more realistic style than most comics are. Metal Gear RAY is probably the best example I can think of for this; look at the coloring, the style, and the way it moves. They're all very unrealistic and dramatic; especially the way they squaw and so on. Also look at the orange on the exterior of the big shell, or the buildings around Grosnyj Grad. Very colourful, to the point of almost being pastel.

Got my Wii hacked properly today so I got to spend some quality time with the MH3 demo. I didn't get enough chance to try out Greatswords last time, but now that I can experiment I have found that they have all the same attacks from MHF2 along with a new combo attack; a kick followed by a "sword slap" that can KO monsters like a hammer can (jesus shit) followed by a quick charge attack that requires a timed button press to execute a level 3 charge. I'd say the KO attack alone makes them top tier, but...

EDIT: jesus christ sword and shield now has a shield bash attack that can KO

Hammers also got some new toys. The hammer charge now has two levels: level 1 charges execute an upward swing (moving version is a dash forward to the swing) and level 2 charges are the good ol' super pound and spinning attack when moving. The spinning attack leads to a faster golf swing than normal so it now recovers very quickly. The little sideways swing nobody ever uses in MHF2 now counts as the first hit of the 3 hit combo into golf swing, which makes it the fastest way to get the golf swing out.


The other weapons available in the demo were Sword n shield, Light bowgun and Heavy bowgun, and I didn't see anything about them changed. I have only used bowguns maybe once or twice in the past, so I don't really know if they were changed or not, but unless there were controls I couldn't figure out the SnS seemed exactly the same, but with improved animations.

I can't wait for the damn game to be released, I've been waiting for so long to play it again on a console since MH was originally released on the PS2.

Nope.I'm sure they could've animated an intro without making it look like some generic anime crap. I mean, really, it looks like something out of a kid's show. I can't take those bad guys seriously. YouTube - Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow Intro That's rather awful by Castlevania standards.

I haven't played it because I only barely started Aria of Sorrow before I got distracted by real life and other things (lolCastlevaniaPlot, I know, but still.) I wouldn't be surprised if the game itself is still good but the change in presentation is still jarring and and that art just doesn't fit. I know they don't have anywhere near the same degree of following so such a move would be completely unnecessary, but imagine if Konami pulled the same stunt to market Metal Gear to a younger audience.

I do like Ecclesia's art though.

Anybody playing Sacred 2? I've been thinking of getting it for the local coop, but I'm not sure if it's just a rental or if it deems buying. I read reviews and watch videos, but I'm getting mixed impressions.

In my opinion, I'd have to say just rent it. I beat the main storyline fairly easily, then created a new character that owned everything, and beat the storyline again as a different specialty. That took me less than 2 days, and after that I didn't really care about the game too much.
