  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

After getting my ass handed to me by my buddy for about 95% of the times we play I finally decided to stop being lazy and figure out how to properly use the puck handling moves in NHL09, hopefully I can start winning our online games through something other than fluke goals soon, lol.

Like No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy, MadWorld, Bit.Trip, etc. Extremely unique games that are only on Wii.

Yeah, Soul Calibur Legends is kind of eh. But it seems eh enough to be pretty short so I want to beat it. I am going to do Trauma Center first cause I stopped playing it in chapter 6 and that was the final chapter of the first game.

Says the guy with Devil May Cry 2 on his to-do list.

Nearing the end of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoer: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. The Soulless Army

I have to say SRT OG Saga really took me by surprise. Not only did it give me a taste of what Namco X Capcom was like, its the best game ever to have KOS-MOS in it. Sorry, Xenosaga.

Also enjoying my romp through Devil Summoner. If you ever play it, have Thoth be your overworld demon partnerthat follows you around. Holmes had Watson, Batman had Robin, Miles Edgeworth has Dick Gumshoe...

                I have a baboon reading a book!

I keep him around because he finds so many useful things and can transform less useful items into more useful items. Sadly, he sometimes takes useful items and turns them into twigs or underwear.

Sadly he's not much for taking physical damage, but he absorbs all spells cast at him.

1- DMC2 is a part of the series, not a spinoff
2- Only because of its sequel. Were there no DMC3, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
3- Only because it came in a box set with DMC and DMC3. I would never have bought it separately.
4- I used Thoth for hours in The Journey. He's awesome.

Well, don't say we didn't warn you.

BTW, DMC 3 is a prequel to DMC, not a sequel to DMC 2.

Not that you should seriously be playing any of them for plot or story, since that doesn't really exist in Capcom games.

It's still interesting to see how far Dante has come from being a punk-ass kid, to being a punk-ass adult.

BBQ, you're thinking of plot and chronology. I am talking purely in terms of series progression.

Actually, I was chronicling them in terms of quality on top of plot. DMC3 was he best of the three, DMC2 was complete shit.

DMC is one of those examples where you take something that truly was for the hardcore game and dumb it down to the point its even insulting the casual gamer. Dante's personality shift from mondo badass to sullen Cloud Strife wannabe doesn't help matters, either.

Another way to put it: DMC to is to Xenosaga as DMC 2 is to Xenosaga II. You play the first one, you like it. You play the second one and go "what the hell were they thinking?" Both games were victims of being handed off to a different team after the first game being a hit - a different team that listened a little too much to complaints about the first game and tried to fix what wasn't broken to start with.

This doesn't even begin to describe it... DMC 2 is a sin against all of gaming.

And I liked Xenosaga 2 >.> especially the art style. I just wish they hadn't ditched the combat & leveling system from the 1st game.

The art style in Xeno 2 was simply because it doesn't jibe with the other two games. They made them look "realistic" to appease western gamers. Granted the dish-eyed female anime characters were a bit much in the first game, but once you establish a style, its lame to go back on it just because you hope it will sell the game to people who didn't like the first one.

The soulless gameplay system just made it worse. I'm hoping one day that Xenosaga I & II hits western shores, just so I can have some consistancy between the first two games before getting around to the third. Yeah, I know there's a digest DVD for Xeno II, but Digest DVDs alway fail to fill the bits between the scenes. It didn't help the first digest DVD and wouldn't help the second.
