  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Crisis Core was pretty good. It's the only RPG I've ever played that had a GOOD slot-machine mechanic behind it *cough*Xenosaga2*cough*

And I was referring to Seiken Densetsu as a whole, though specifically 2 and 3 were the best (Secret of Mana in North America). SD4 (World of Mana for PS2) was an abomination... Sword of Mana (aka SD1 aka Final Fantasy Adventure (well, the original game not the DS remake)) was pretty decent, though not as good as the 2 SNES games).

You need an emulator to play SD3 sadly, since it was never released outside of Japan. They even put it up on the Wii's VC market, but again, only in Japan. Bastards!

If I had to pick a favorite Action-RPG, it'd be a tough call between Grandia 2 or Drakenguard. Caim was such a badass...

Secret of Mana's combat system was crude as fuck. There was a noticeable lag between hitting enemies and them appearing to be hurt, and there was nothing you could do to avoid being hit by spells. Your NPC allies were also nowhere near as useful as real players. I haven't played the others but there's no way you can argue Secret of Mana has better gameplay than KH.

FFXI, though I'm just standing about looking fabulous in Port Jeuno hoping to sell the Sixth Virtue.

I'm otherwise playing Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy (for the time being)... Chaos Shrine keeps spamming Vana'diel March and Seymour Battle :I
So ends the tale of Nestama the Galka in FFXI~

I didn't say it was better, just that I like that game more. It's got sentimental value for me, as I loved it to death as a kid. Besides, combat is actually a total joke in SD2 if you abuse the Sprite and chain-cast. SD3's combat was much more balanced.

And comparing the dozens of attacks against each other is impossible without GameFAQs.
I agree Shotlocks are pretty overpowered, but all of the moves with invincibility frames have huge wind-up times or are finishers, so I don't consider them any more broken than a Shoryuken (dragon punch) in Street Fighter. I also agree that dodge spam was a bit unnecessary (this is particularly true against the two optional secret bosses), but on the whole the combat is still hands down better than any other Kingdom Hearts game, and the way you acquire and upgrade your skills is pretty nifty too.

Randomly stumbled on the source of this image and the source's source this evening. If I had the means I'd totally make a dozen of these guys and just put them in random locations. If even one person who knew the story ever looked at it, the effect would be priceless.

I played some more DayZ. I found a map online and I've been targeting isolated, high value locations. I accidentally stumbled into a bard while being chased by zombies, and discovered an Enfield. I put down the ten zombies that had followed me in, or attracted to the sounds of gunfire, and found a few bandages and some food on their bodies. I'm pretty safe for now. I plan to scout out a bunch of military locations to north, tomorrow.

Can I at least argue that I enjoyed Secret of Mana infinitely more than I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts?

Well much of the skill upgrades were inspired by CC's Materia Fusion system and that makes a return in KH3D in addition to the flowmotion system. Flowmotion is certainly and improvement to the platforming and Reaction command concepts in that it removes a lot of QTE, replacing it with context-sensitive attacks based on the kind of platforming you do.

Still, it being a KH game, some of it is undercut by invisible walls SE has always put on level design.

I've been watching some gameplay videos, looks pretty interesting. Once they can get rid of the lag and glitching zombies that mod is going to be killer.

Maybe I should've bought Arma2 when it was on sale XD

EDIT: I'd pass on ARMA 2 and DayZ... it's highly over rated. Just sit tight until The Last of Us is out.

It's been quite a while since I last played. I'm not sure which moves you're thinking of, I can't remember any with huge wind-ups. I'm thinking of Thunder Surge and Fire Surge, the ones that send you dashing forward covered in a wheel of elemental magic. Unlike Shoryukens you were pretty much safe for the whole duration of those two move. Back when the game was still recent, the only reliable strategy I'd seen or found to deal with Unknown was to cheese it to death with surge moves. It basically subverts the entire combat system. Vanitas at least let you put up a real fight, even if the constant dodging was bullshit.

Shotlocks would've been fine if they hadn't added that stupid "get hit, get shotlock" ability. That just ruined everything. It's just kind of lame that they went there, because it was the exact same problem Kingdom Hearts 1 had with Sonic Blade/Strike Raid/Ars Arcanum.

Here's the KYM on it for the tl;dr: SCP Foundation | Know Your Meme
the game: SCP – Containment Breach
and the wiki itself: The SCP Foundation

My favorites so far are SCP-087 (The Stairwell) for House-of-Leaves-esque creep value, SCP-028 (Knowledge) for a light blend of horror and humor, and the extremely extensive antics surrounding SCP-050 (For the Cleverest). You could lose a lot of time on that site. I already have and I haven't even finished the first 100 entries.

And of course, there's a bronie submission already, ruining the site instantly. Other funny pictures were all well and good until... ugh.
