Remaster, not remake. Big difference.

Remaking a game is rebuilding the entire game from the ground up. New assets, new features, new everything and same story and gameplay flow.They're not doing that.

Remastering is improving the resolution, framerate, textures, audio, video and eliminating potential tearing that SD covered up in its lower resolution. ZOE2 is a special snowflake in that its anime cutscene wankery is getting remastered to HD resolution. That's all they're doing, otherwise they are the exact same games they were before.

No, I'm pretty sure they said they were going to remake cutscenes not remaster. And that Sunrise was remaking the anime for Anubis, not just a remaster of their old animation.

PPS > There was also a rumor going around that they were going to replace the CGI cutscenes from ZOE with Anime cutscenes. But either way it was goin g to be a remake, that's for sure.

Metal Gear and GOW-dickriding Castlevania games, not much else.

Mercury Stream is on the the 3DS Castlevania: Mirror of Fate title so I'm preemptively pessimistic about it. Fans want a 2D Castlvania in the vein of SotN or Order of Ecclesia, which I doubt they can pull off. I guess Konami threw Igarashi and his team under the bus.

I thought LoS was fine as its own game, it's just not Castlevania. You can keep slapping that name on it, dress it up to appear like Castlevania but it's not Castlevania. At least keep this approach to consoles and give the handheld audience the Castlevania they want.

Ugh great, so they're ruining arguably the best Belmont character (or at least the one with the best theme track).

I lop LoS in the same pile as SH4 - they tacked on the brand name to make it sell an otherwise mediocre game.

Shin Megami Tensei IV got announced for 3DS. Turns out Strange Journey was main series SMT, just with no number because it didn't take place in Tokyo and was the western Nintendo audience's first exposure to the main series so they didn't want to create confusion.

Anyway, turns out Siliconera bans people for bitching about "Why X game isn't coming to a Playstation platform?"

I actually think its a good policy. Even when PSP was getting great games PS3 owners were insisting that they should have that game, too. Sony fanboys are like the only gamers that think they're entitled to anything that comes out on any platform and even cry "traitor" to franchises that break from Sony exclusivity to happen on different platforms.

They did it for SMT, too. Technically, SMT only ever had one main series game on a Playstation platform at all, which would be SMT III: Nocturne. The rest were spin offs- Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga and the Persona series. Atlus USA puts them under the "Shin Megami Tensei" umbrella because its marketable to do so. In Japan, its not common for these titles to be directly associated with that name.

I've been having a huge ball in Tera with some friends. I'm level 55 now, and the quests are beginning to become extremely grindy but the dungeons and elites have been incredibly fun with this combat. Now I'm starting FFXIV as well, so I don't really have time to play any other games at the moment.

With Final Fantasy, Squaresoft had shown a tech demo at E3 for FF on N64, so that's where that old burn factor comes in. Atlus always sides with the platforms that are cheapest to make games for.

With Playstation 3 fanboys its different. They'll demand a PSP exclusive to come to PS3 - so you see they cannibalize their own, too. You never see that with the Nintendo audience. No one ever says, "That should come to Wii" when it coming to DS or 3DS. At worst Nintendo fanboys like to play industry analyst and will say Pokemon Black and White 2 should come to 3DS rather than DS, totally fucking failing to realize DS has the marketshare and is more deserving of a Pokemon game right now as that is where they'll make the most sales.

For some of Sony fanboys what's really goading about this is that SMT IV, Soul Hackers and Strange Journey are the more hardcore RPGs with Japanese and Western elements and Vita gets the happy Persona series, which is just straight-up JRPG. its true they got them exclusively for a time on PS2, but that's because PS2 was cheap to develop for.

Developing for PS3, 360 and Vita is not cheap. 3DS is cheaper and has a much more rapid growth in their userbase than Vita does. Vita sold seven more units than it did last week in Japan and that wasn't even half what PSP sold.

That's because Nintendo consoles are so weak you get pretty much the same experience on a portable. So no one would ever consider such a move an improvement.

Wait, what's wrong with asking for a PSP game to be done on PS3 as well/instead? It's the same company at least, though I understand the demographic is much different (especially in Japan).

Case in point Valkyria 2 and 3, since the 1st was such a masterpiece on the PS3 and then they moved it to PSP in an attempt at getting to a wider audience and yes I'm still sour about that, especially as they had to dramatically change the art style.

Stuff like Crisis Core though, while nice, doesn't really need porting. It's not really fair to lay out a blanket statement when some games really would be better off on one platform or the other. Again with CC, while on PS3 it could have had nicer visuals and more content, there's no guarantee it would have been better on PS3 - especially given SE's recent track record with 13. You could even argue it may have been worse because they likely would have thrown too many resources at making the game pretty rather than meaningful.

EDIT: That's a bit of a cheapshot ray. It's more that they purposely kept them as much inline as they could at the time, though Nintendo seems to have a track record of making better handhelds than consoles as far as performance goes starting with the GBA. The Gamecube also technically had better hardware than PS2 and Xbox, but it was the first time that they had fallen into SEGA's old trap of topnotch hardware with shitty software. (save for the odd gems).

Again, it comes down to investments, returns and audience. Japan has a larger handheld audience. This is why VC2 and VC3 went to PSP. Putting them on PS3 would just be making the same mistake they made with the first game. The tactics RPG audience is not on PS3 no matter how much you want to say its there.

Why waste money on an HD port when everyone wants to play it on a handheld. You only want it on a console because its what you're accustomed to.

Its wrong to demand and crybitch about a game you want not coming to a platform you have. If SMT IV was on Vita and not 3DS, I'm getting a Vita. End of story. Vita's getting P4 The Golden so I'm getting one for an SMT spin-off anyway. I don't sit here and cry about a game not coming to a certain platform. I'll complain when they put something that needs proper sticks and buttons on iOS, but that's about it.

And i have an iphone. GTA3, Max Payne, Soul Calibur and Wolfenstien just aren't made for it.

Finished Fallout 3 yesterday. Tried to upgrade to the GOTY version, but my 360 didn't want to load the GOTY DLC onto my USB storage, which is odd because Mass Effect and Oblivion also pre-date the USB storage update and they still install to USB storage. Said I needed the HDD, which I'm not selling out a hundred bucks for.

New Vegas UE installed though. I already like it a lot more. Better graphics, more color, Raiders actually set traps and set mines is sneaky places, better upgrade system, better story, actual minigames. FO3 was nice, but compared to New Vegas, it just doesn't seem like as much heart was put into it.

Started FFVI again, let's see if I beat it this time. I find it hilarious that I have zero incentive to put anyone from my current party (Terra, Locke, Edgar, Sabin) on the front row. I also find it highly disturbing while a character is attacking his ATB gauge is frozen but everyone else's keeps going.
