      What Ship are you using and what equipment do you have installed, and what skills are your officers trained to use? <_<;

Also, are you making use of the power and shield rerouting features? They make a HUGE difference in combat.

Right now I've been experimenting with different types of weapons and so far it seems Dual Phaser banks work the best for me with heavy cannons for certain situations. And fighting till 4am last night I learned A LOT of things about combat.

But more importantly I was happy to find the Raydeus Maneuver was actually possible in game and it actually worked. XD

I doubt I'm the only one playing it like that in the game, but this is a maneuver I thought about oh 10 years ago when I was chat-roleplaying in Startrek.com before they closed the chat room (maybe too much cybering? <_<; ), thought it wasn't called that back then.

Raydeus Maneuver (it really isn't a manuever, but more like a stance though.)

And yes, I thought about this entire setup more than 10 years ago, so I was all giddy when I saw it actually working in game. XD

It plays better than it used to, that's for sure. But ground combat in the ST universe has always been meh to begin with. XD

I have no idea how it is at higher levels but at lower levels it's pretty painless. The animations are still just adequate though. Too bad it's already F2P and they probably wont spend a significant amount of money in the game ever again, because a more fluid combat and animations would've made a world of difference. But yeah, it's still... adequate.

PS > There's one thing I love about the combat though. And that is that you have no time to rest or to get comfortable because if you don't pay attention you can get blown up fast. But if you are fast and play skillfully you can hold your ground against a much better equipped ship that isn't being properly managed.

Shields are fragile, so are systems, so you need to balance the entire array of systems while paying attention to your targets. Just like in the series. If you do it right and reroute power properly you can pull off some pretty neat stuff, but if you try to auto attack you'll be underperforming even if you have the best equipment on your ship. So you'll need some extreme gear difference to actually be able to bulldoze your way around fighting in this game.

        .
I'm using the ship for the Sith Inquisitor. I haven't bought any armor or weapons for my ship, but I have blasters i cna shoot, and in the last space mission i have 16 torpedos. I still havent really figured out when to use the torpedos over the blasters though. I'm guessing i need to buy armor and better weapons maybe? If so, where can i goto get them? I have about 60k, is that enough?

I ahven't figured how to put up shields or how to reroute them. I was talking to a friend and he said that it's the 1,2, and 3 keys, and those slots were blank when i went on the space mission.

The other way is if your forward shield is going down quick press the up arrow key to reroute power to them and keep pressing it, same for other direction sheilds. Another way to "balance" shields is the shield symbol showing the green and red when shields depleting, click in the middle and it will start to balance the shields.

What space combat things are you talking about? If its fleet missions you are guarenteed to die a few times especially against the borg.

Ground combat is no Counterstrike or Black ops but its ok as long as you are ok at healing, setting weapons and shields up etc. Most storyline missions have a mix of space and ground activities especially in the higher levels.

As for the larger ships, you have to work out races tacticks. Remans with their huge battle ships have a tractor beam that locks onto you when your within 5km of them and then hold you while they shoot a volley opf 5 plasma torpedos at you. Borg cubes and spheres can lock a tractor beam on you at up to 7km out that also drains your shields and power. Keeping with 10-8km is the best survivable range if practical for longevity and less sheild managing. also I have mainly plasma type weapons as the plasma gives an hp drain effect for a few seconds kind of like poison in FFXI.

We're talking about Star Trek: Online and you're talking about The Old Republic. Iirc, you should be able to handle the first 3 space missions just fine without buying any upgrades to your ship. When they get harder it will say on the mission screen that you should have level 3 or greater ship upgrades.

Rerouting power becomes available after you install a certain upgrade on your ship. At first the only power management you need to worry about is to stop firing when you're not on a target to let your shield regenerate. Actually, I guess you don't even have shields to start out, so you can fire non-stop until you get those.

Missiles are for targets that are going to leave your field of view quickly, like small ships that fly straight at you, or for shield generators and mission objectives. In non-escort missions, that means anything with a yellow target marker on it. Later on when you're assaulting capital ships, you'll find that you can't take down shield generators with blasters, only missiles.

Oh man, the Sovereign class is so awaesome.

I'll probably keep using that even though the Galaxy looks like major power.

Speaking of STO, I'm finally Lieutenant Commander and got a new ship along with the promotion. And while it was nice seeing that I could hold my ground against Borg more than 4 lvls higher I spent a long time last night looking for things to Replicate to update my weapons and systems.

Have you tried doing the exploration missions? Also when in each zone area always scan for anomolies and never leave a zone until you have got them all thats both land and space.

Ohhh, I didn't know about that site.

I never leave a system or planet without scanning for anomalies, but Biological and the other 2nd tier have been pretty scarce where I've been. I was barely able to come up with the 30 biological and Alloy I needed for my MKIV Dual Phasers and Quantum launcher. But I'll do more exploration missions tonight.

PS > Also, reading that site I just realized my Raydeus Stanceâ„¢ is pretty much designed for Escort type of vessels, rather than Cruisers. So I'll see if I have enough Dilithium to get an escort tonight. 3 weapon banks at the front + higher turn rate and faster movement for retreats. Then I'll use Cruisers for tanking and solo missions where I need more durability.

Got burned out on Graces. 98 hrs of play time, still need to finish 6 floors of the bonus dungeon. There are all the kill boss in 60 seconds trophies, but that can wait until New game+.

Started FF13...Dramatic music. FWIW, I'm liking it so far. I can see the complaints about the crystallium not opening up fast enough and that it is one long winding road, but I'm enjoying myself. And after all, isn't that why we play games?

You will come down to earth soon enough.

There is no fun in FFXIII. You'll look for it, trying to find what others couldn't and might spend a good amount of the game thinking you found it, but you will find you lied to yourself and regret the hours you sank into it. Then you'll hear someone speak of Xenoblade or Skyrim and wonder why this game couldn't be more like them.

Or you'll go back to Tales realizing the burnout was better.

You will want to say there is no hope, but there is a Hope and you'll hate his guts.
