Speaking of which, how far does the 3DS go with backwards compatibility? And also, is it region locked?

DS. GBA support was phased out with the DSi - although the DS had already dropped support for the Link Cable so even that wasn't a perfectly backwards compatible solution. A GBA and a 3DS gives you access to every generation of Nintendo handhelds though, assuming the GBA isn't a Micro.

I've heard the region locking only applies to downloadable games. Can't comment on that, don't own a 3DS yet.

Region locking is eshop games and some 3DS retail games (though the distinction is never really made clear, most of them seem locked).

DS games, however, can be played region-free on 3DS (as DS was region-free) and the eShop does have a sizeable selection of good stuff for the North American market, as does Japan. Europe not so much.

So if you wanted a Japanese 3DS over a American 3DS, you'd still have access to your old DS games either way.

As for the inevitable question of jailbreaking/homebrew 3DS has been pretty resiliant, likely backgrounding updates in new games, spotpass and things like that. Vita has gotten exposed a few times, but so far Sony patches it back up pretty fast. So far ripped PSP games are about all you can sneak by running a different program.

Diablo 3 Beta is pretty sweet. The open beta ends on Monday sadly, but then, it's not terribly long either - hell Act 1 in D2 seemed longer.

But the lore and everything I loved about D2 is all there in spades and the flow of the game is much, much better over D2. I'll discuss at length in the podcast. Also, whoever thought it was a good idea to set up a town around the ruins of Old Tristram is (was, lol?) the most colossal, brain dead retard ever.

WTF is with that display? Freaking OLEDs need to get cheaper. It easily pwned all the expensive TVs around (Sony and even Sharp Quattro included) with it's little stupid OLED display.

Its pretty, but I don't fancy its chances as much as a 3DS were I to accidentally drop one

I've already dropped my 3DS, had it bounce twice, spring open and slide across a concrete floor on its screens.

No scratches, still works perfectly. That would never happen with the Vita.

Yeah, I would be afraid of touching it more than necessary. It's just too pretty and maybe fragile. (This is the part where I get depressed because I wish I could find a girl I could say the same about. orz )

It really comes down to the inability to play PSP games, since regional restrictions would prevent me from digitally downloading most of my games. So in order to justify buying a Vita it would need to have a library strong enough to make me forget about my old PSP games. Which, I don't think is ever going to happen.

Heck the PS3 barely managed to kinda sort of have enough PS3 titles or HD remakes to be worth the loss of backwards compatibility.

That's funny, because the English VA, Kate Higgens, who did Rhymes reaction voices for TWEWY, is the VA for KH3D. (holy commas batman)

Anyway, the Colosseum boss in the Grace's Epilogue is just wrong. A Little girl should not be able to send a 180 lb man 50 yards with a Pow hammer (instant death btw).

Not much to go on, but then SSB WiiU/3DS is just getting started. One thing they should consider when all is said and done, however, I wonder just how many people would take advantage of the elements of having two versions would provide. At least we know the 3DS is capable of keeping up with a Smash Bros. game with other fighters under its belt, though SSB is busier on screen than most of those.

Fire Emblem: Awakening also seems to be doing incredibly well in Japan, being the fastest-selling entry of the series. On top of that NOA did register a domain for the game, so it looks like we may not have to worry about getting this one, unlike the FE2 remake.

I'm still not sold on the idea of a portable Smash Bros, mainly because the low screen resolution is going to make things really indistinguishable when the camera zooms out, like you hinted at. I suppose they could have a tighter camera on the main screen and show you a whole view of the battlefield in the bottom screen. Still...my main concern is that they bring back the competitive gameplay mechanics.

I never played the Shadow Dragon remake - is it really anything to write about? Old RPGs tend to have really campy stories and Radiant Dawn is already 50+ hours of entertainment, hard as balls and gives you incentives for replaying it. Not really sure if I care for the old FEs. I'm hyped as all hell for Awakening though.
