  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

No, it's that everything Cloud says & does is basically what Zack would have, as indicated in CC - it's bizarre really how he mimicks Zack to a tee. Cloud's real personality (at least before he screwed up) was bland - he was a total wuss. A nice guy, but a dull little wuss.
Zack was pretty upbeat. Cloud didn't get gung-ho about anything when mimicking him. You're also not giving him any credit whatsoever. Yeah, he hated himself for being weak, but it was because Tifa fell down a cliff and was in a coma for a week and he didn't make it in time to save her, and top of that the whole town thought it was his fault. And you know what? He had more balls than I ever did when he called Tifa out that well when he decided to leave Nibelheim. I couldn't even hold a decent conversation with the girl I liked from 1st to 6th grade.
I happen to find Squall to be one of the best protagonists they've ever done because he genuinely showed emotion and growth throughout the game, coming to terms with his childhood etc.
Look, it's perfectly fine to like Squall better than Cloud. But you're holding some serious double standards here. If you don't see that Cloud also had serious character development and growth, either it's been too long since you last played the FFVII, you have the memory of Advent Children's retconned brooding emo Cloud too fresh in your mind, or you're just being a fanboy. Cloud found himself a backbone in the lifestream in the Lifestream. There's no room for discussion here.

In CC he was always getting sick during battle, and just acting like a total wuss.

Yeah he comes to terms with who he really is after the Lifestream, but I still don't find him all that interesting after playing through CC. Everything he says/does up until the Lifestream strikes me as exactly what Zack would have said or done as evidenced by Zack in CC. When he told Cloud that he was his living Legacy, I guess in Cloud's broken state that sunk in a little too deeply. Even Cloud's feelings for Aerith, which I originally thought were genuine, are suspect.

That's what why I loathe Cloud and call him a placeholder - you could put Zack back in place instead of him and very little would change.

Considering Cloud was Zack's Kadaj it's no surprise things turned out the way they did.

          I mean the story as a whole is nice and Cloud plays his role in all of it. But Cloud himself was pretty meh, and he knew it. Which is why even he couldn't believe Tifa actually liked him. <_<;

Kid Icarus: Uprising Sold Over 135,000 Copies First Week In The U.S. | Siliconera

Additionally, sales have remained strong in Japan while Kingdom Hearts 3D matched first weeks sales and mysteriously plummeted hard on the second.

Well, maybe not a mystery since kH has gotten to the point where if you're jumping into the series now you'll need a damn roadmap and Youtube digest videos to figure out what's going on, I'd say that's a big factor.

Pit didn't have that kind of baggage, just a 25 year absence.

If it weren't for Smash Bros, I'd bet a lot of people think Kid Icarus is a new IP, lol.

Well, its mostly been treated that way anyway. I think that was the right way to relaunch it, too. And rather than have Pit and Palutena be treated as "serious" they just ritually break the fourth wall and otherwise play out like an 80s or 90s kids anime. They're now the Nintendo characters that are self aware that they are Nintendo chracters and thanks to the writing it ends up working in their favor.

I do like that they kept the Game Over, Reaper and Death track in chiptune, though.

Which is why 3D comes with a review menu/walkthrough(?) of the past 10 years of KH games :p. Not that it probably helped any, but it is there.

Have nearly fucked myself over in Graces. I sold off the only obtainable pair of Silver Frames during a normal playthrough long ago, which is needed as a request item. They are reobtainable in the post game dungeon at a low chance, but still...

So were Simon Belmont and Mega Man.

Oddly, Konami and Capcom wouldn't license them for the limited run of related comics, so Samus Aran replaced them. She had a crush on Kevin and was jealous of Lana. Wouldn't that make Samus a pedophile, though, given Kevin was like 16?

American cartoons in the 80s and 90s weren't drawn for television with any sort of artistic integrity in mind. They often were at best shit to sell toys and games unless Hanna Barbara, Warner Bros, or Disney were at the helm, then it had something more legitimate going for it. Ducktales? THAT was stuff drawn for entertainment.

This is why I make fun of people that cry over Micheal Bay "raping their childhood" over Transformers. If you want to cry foul on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that's fine, that was an indie comic well before it was turned into a kids show. If you want complain about Disney doing live action versions of the classics you grew up with, that's OK (though Alice in Wonderland turned out quite alright), I'm fine with that too.

But Captain N? No one could ruin this as it was pretty much already there, though I did appreciate the references to other games when they managed to keep that element fresh enough.

                            ---------------

                            Just demoed Fez on XBLA.

If you remember Crush on PSP or have demoed Crush3D on 3DS, Fez like that but waaaaay better and much more charming.

Of course you have twits out there "boycotting" this indie game because the creator said all Japanese games suck to the face of a Japanese developer. While I will agree that was stupid, this is one of those one-man creations that has the brilliance and charm of Cave Story, so don't pass on this game just because of some stupid comment Phil Fish made.

It has the look of one of those retro cash-ins that appear on XBLA every other week, but its not just in it for the looks.

I saw the trailer on Kotaku the other day and it looked really interesting, and definitely innovative. Sadly the Wii is still the only console I own, but if this comes out on Steam I'll be all over it.

The 70's~90's were the golden age of cartoons. Yeah some of them were pretty badly written, but they were also so damned memorable and enjoyable that looking back at them, I honestly don't give a shit how corny or bad they really are. Fuck Michael Bay for messing with that.
