Re: What games are you currently playing?
You know, speaking of Yasunori Mitsuda, I always admired the song for Xenosaga "Kokoro". That's what I mean by having a lot of complexity to it. Even when you take away the singing, you've still got something very interesting to listen to left over. And it's not just a bunch of instruments reiterating the same melody throughout. It's a bunch of different melodies that somehow come together to form a coherent song. Now that's something that a lot of care went into writing.
I suppose people can admire her for what she already is. She is presented as a strong willed character who just puts her thoughts out there, without a care to what others might think about it. Which is a virtue or a flaw depending on who is looking at it. She enters the story determined to do what she has to do and leaves just the same. More may be going on in her head, but we're not clued into it in the slightest and coming to terms with being a Cetra is only explored on a skin deep level.
Perhaps Aerith would be an admirable person in real life. But for the purpose of creating storyline drama, she's pretty bland and just exists just to drive that particular point in the story forward.
That's probably all at the risk of sounding like more VII bashing. Personally, I don't see why people don't take a closer look at Garnet from IX, who we actually get some insight into how she copes with hardship and changes her worldview throughout the course of the game. She seems to trail behind Aerith and Rinoa though, even though Rinoa just as much exists only to further Squall's character development rather than experience any herself.

Did Aerith's death have an emotional impact on gamers? Not me, she was a poorly written character, but apparently it did for others.
