Colors almost got to the brilliance of 2D to 3D gameplay transitions that Mario has mastered in the Galaxy and 3D Land games, where Colors suffers is on the rather drab underwater 2D levels, which run contrary to the sense of momentum you get on other worlds in the game.
Colors benefitted a great deal from the power ups Mario or Kirby games thrive on, I wouldn't mind seeing more games focused on that than extra characters or gimmicks like transformations. Sonic is about movement and momentum, so he should get power ups in that direction. Leave the acid trip animal transformation to Mario.
That is the great thing about Generations 3D sections, the lock on system it uses doesn't ruin your momentum while fighting in 3D sections and it also keeps you moving as fast as possible. It also isn't linear so it's an actual proper platformer with multiple pather rather a boring "Press direction and jump button to win" game which I personally dislike.
Unrelated but is anyone here hyped for Skullgirls?
It looks interesting, but I'm saving my attention for fighters for Persona 4 Arena now that Capcom successfully alienated me from getting SFXT with their DLC bullshit.
Must admit it's impossible not to play Sonic Generations as fast as possible anymore. I think I've reached the point where I've reached some of the best times I'm willing to try to get for most acts. So I thought I'll try to play it less, shall we say, intently. You know, just go through the motions and appreciated some of the detail put into the game rather than Boosting all over the place and trying to go for all the shortest routes.
Doesn't work. I get too /sadface when I pass a goal post and it's telling me I'm some 30 to 45 seconds behind my original time. Then it's back to restarting and restarting cause I didn't get some just jump right until I'm just about ready to throw the controller at the screen.
been looking at the early reviews for Spirit Camera. Seems like it amounts to a three hour campaign that's mostly a lot of spinning around with your 3DS and praying your room is well-lit enough to use the "Book of Faces" at all.
I think I'll forward my money to another pre-order. The Witcher 2, Mario Tennis, Pokemon Conquest, Lollipop Chainsaw, The Last Story, Theatrhythm, Max Payne 3 and Kingdom Hearts 3D are all looking like hotter prospects right now.
Stinks since things are pretty dry for the next month and a half, but then I still have quite a few games to finish that are rich with content. Xenoblade, Kid Icarus, Devil Survivor 2, MGS3 and RE:R which I still haven't finished. Guess its a good time to start rebuilding the best of the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube back into my library.
Fired up Xenoblade Chronicles. Only a couple hours in so far but it seems like a very good game. My only gripe is that I can barely read the text on my 50" HDTV. It's not "totally" illegible, but there's a ton of dithering and awfulness going on and it's grating on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by seeing nice crisp 720p and 1080p HUDs in RPGs on the PS3, but there's not much I can do about it other than maaaybe upgrading to the Wii component cables. It's still going to look like hell on my TV even if I do, though. Probably not the brightest idea to fire up this game so soon after playing some Tales of Graces f; the visual quality difference is stark.
There's always Dolphin emulation and upscalers, but I've gotten used to it pretty quick on the Wii. then again my HDTV isn't that big but big enough for my shoebox of a room. I've seen some screengrabs and videos of it running on Dolphin and i looks damn good.
I've gotten to a point where loot-hunting more important to me before moving the story forward. If you're on the back of the Bionis' left calf, I'm up at its waist now. When you set off for the next major area, its sort of like landing in Gran Pulse after six hours of good gameplay rather than forty hours of pure drivel. Plus the zones are far more detailed and breathtaking.
What are you talking about Icemage? It isn't low res Nintendo crappiness, but artsy development and focus on gameplay.
You graphics elitist guy. Geez.
PS > BTW is it as open ended as advertised? I'm kinda having trouble believing a jrpg can actually be like a sandbox game. Even though I'm hoping for the best with Versus. <_<;
sigpic "In this world, the one who has the most fun is the winner!"C.B.
Imagine if FFXIII had characters you liked, zones larger than Gran Pulse accessible to you within hours, the enemy aggro and party mechanics of pre-ToA FFXI and it trims the fat out of fetchquests (mainly the "fetch" part) that the story is well-paced and not the massive chucks of shit to watch.
That's Xenoblade.
If you like the good things about JRPGs - unique settings, fun gameplay mechanics, a good story with a varied cast (think Chrono Trigger, Persona or FFX, not the tripe J9 plays) and loads to do, you'll like xenoblade. Just don't go in expecting Xenosaga or Xenogears, there are small nods to those games, but this game trades copious cutscenes for massive zones. Cutscenes are much better paced here. Its been so long since I played a console JRPG where cutscenes were used to pump you up for a fight rather than detract from it and ruin the pace.
Its not going to be Skyrim, you can't just wander off in any direction you like and get there, its scope is more like that of FFXI. Like hte first time you leave Windurst to go to Valkurm, you take the ferry and see Heaven's Tower off int the distance? Xenoblade has a lot of those little breathtaking moments where you can see where you'll eventually go or peer off into the distance toward the places you came from. There is a Fast Travel option and unlike Skyrim, you'd probably want to use it for this game.
There's plenty you'll miss on your first trip through the various zones, too, they're just biiiiiig zones. The starter city could swallow Skyrim's Solitude about three times. Not that you can go in people's houses and steal their cheese. but its a pretty big place.
Nintendo fully owns Monolith Soft, they're a first party team now. They even pitched in on the development of Skyward Sword. They've been at work on 3DS and Wii U stuff since XB's completion a couple years back.
oooo can not wait to play it now... STILL trying to finish Tales of Graces lol.... I am at the save before the final battle, and I like the fact that they give you a away to leave from there and go do world map stuff, and come back right to that spot just to finish the game. After that of course I still have the "F" part of the game to do.
I was sooooooo close to beating him too -.- ran out of items, everyone dead but me..... and he was down to 5k HP -.-

Kain (FFIV): I am aware of my actions, but can do nothing about them.

This is the main reason I bought it; there's 0 chance of it appearing on another platform.
The game is pretty good, but honestly it feels more like Kingdoms of Amalur or NIER with more RPG elements and clunkier combat than it does Skyrim. That's not faint praise, since I like KoA and NIER quite a lot. It really does look like last-gen game, though. :/ Were it not for a few somewhat more advanced shaders, it could very well be a game from the PS2/GCN/XBox era.
I don't know why people keep saying this considering Nintendo owns them. All things considered, being owned and become a first party is probably the best thing that could have ever happened to them. Though I have the feeling even if they were a Sony first party they'd have been given the same hard time by SCEA and SCEE getting a US release. It happened with Demon's Souls, after all - a game co-developed by SCEJ.
I have a feeling we won't see a repeat of these antics from NOA or NOE, though. It seems both Gamestop and XSeed hounded Nintendo for the chance to distribute and publishe these two games respectively. They saw the demand Operation Rainfall created and they jumped in to be the heroes. Not the way I would have preferred it, I'd like to see a company stand proudly behind their first party studios, but if this is how it happens and it gets guys like Atlus or XSeed a boost, I can't really complain about that. If Gamestop wants to pitch in, hey, I'm not going to complain about that.
Fair warning, though, The Last Story WILL be a very limited run according to XSeed. Do not wait it out, don't look for a price drop because when anything Nintendo is connected to "Limited Edition" they tend to actually mean that. Just look at Metroid Prime Trilogy. That goes for $70+ used now.

Well, there's also that whole draw distance thing. No way any of those three could have managed it without serious popping. FFXII just painted backdrops and skylines.

I think we're beating around the bush.
Xenoblade is FFXI pre-ToA minus the bullshit of MMOs. If SE were to make an offline version of FFXI, Xenoblade is as close as they could come to it. It gets closer than FFXII did and generally succeeds where FFXIII and FFXIV fail.
