Actually, Lymle wasn't that bad (she's the 2nd best caster in the game) and I might have liked her if not for the " 'kay " after every sentence. That and she often spoke like she was retarded, not a kid. Meracle is atm my current favorite cat girl EVER though.

I agree, Meracle kicks ass. She's my main character to control during combat. Her being cheery as hell and fairly crazy is also more reasons to like her.

I roll with Edge, Bacchus, Meracle and Arumat. I switch out Bacchus for Sarah if I need a healer in the party and I end up controlling her most of the time if I do that cause AI is the weak sauce.

I like Meracle, but after a while I didn't enjoy controlling her much. The fact that her normal attack is always either a launch or a knockdown irks me and a lot of her skills are the same so I got tired of trying different combinations trying to find which ones would successfully link into others.

Arumat is so much simpler. Aerial Gallows to introduce them to the floor and then spam Dragon Roar to keep them there and simultaneously destroy everything in the immediate vicinity. Plus, he uses a Scythe. You know how bad ass that makes Arumat? He beats your ass with a weapon originally designed as a farm tool. Manly as fuck, second only to Captain Falcon.

Eh... Arumat strikes me as a guy who's trying too hard and to be cool and distant... but I feel sorry for him for reasons that may spoil parts of the game for people.

As for Meracle's attacks... Drill Spike to cover distances... Summersault Smash followed by X-claw spam works for a lot of enemies. For Gabriel I had Berserk + Focus Acrobatic Vault to juggle a bit, followed by a couple of summersault smashes, and an X-claw thrown in before he got into Rage mode. Her basic attack abilities really do such, but I rarely found myself using them once I got used to how I chained her skills.

On another note... Bacchus with Black Hole Sphere + Arumat with Dragon's Roar + Reimi with Savage Sparrow makes any fight with non-boss monsters so incredibly cheap it gets boring after a while. I didn't use the combo myself, since I had my own way with the party I had, but I've seen that combo work over even the toughest of random enemies.

Just finished the demo of FF13. Not really impressed yet. If the full game does not majorly expand upon the battle system it's going to be lame.

Also, I just spent the past 2 days playing through FFVII, VIII, and IX. (Going in reverse order for those, since IX is my favorite... almost done with IX) Even if the battle system isn't the best, if it has a good story, I'll play it.

This demo is definitely not good enough to warrant touching a large hairy man x_x there are some tidbits of story contained in it but nothing that would give you an idea of the story as a whole. If the story does turn out that good I would gladly play it all even if it means spamming X X X Triangle the entire game.

That button combo is better than mine in FFIX currently. Dagger -> Reflect Vivi -> Vivi Flare (himself) -> Battle over. (Reflect x2 makes it hit 9999 damage... even at 35.

Also, does anyone agree with me that when the Princess cuts her long hair, she looks better?

Also, Final Fantasy demos have never really been that great. It gives you a vague idea and that's about it. That's how it worked for FFVIII, FFX, FFX-2 and FFXII. Vague idea.

The games are always great when you get the whole game, though, have a feeling FFXIII will prove to be the same. I'm just not feeling the cast on this game yet. Lightning and Snow kinda set the style tone and each character since then has kinda been all "WTF."

Plus after the awesome cast that FFXII had, I've kinda raised my bar, but knowing this is a Kitase project, we're probably going to get another emo story with no maturity to it at all. FFXII really spoiled me on its mature tone. Emo worked when the characters were all sprites or too blocky to express recognizable emotion, its worn thin since characters can express themselves better facially and physically.

I still have a ancient FFVII demo disk floating around somewhere under the bed. It had that demo and I think a video trailer for Final Fantasy Tactics on it. Old school memories ftw.

Just got to the part where Garland decides to zap Zidane's soul. The following like... 15 minutes, are probably the most epic 15 minutes of the game in my opinion, at least in terms of feeling. The music, and the fact that Zidane is completely opposite of how he normally is, and having everyone jump in to help him as he stumbles down the corridor... I love it.

I had him whack the final boss on a single hit of Diabolic Edge for over 20k... he was really ramping it up (and that 1 attack of Meracle's ... Fury Claws I think? Where she stands there and swings like 50 times...)

My Meracle X-claws for 30k on the initial hit, and 15k 3-4 times more without Berserk on, but I'm level 155 at the moment, so I guess it's a little cheap. I just didn't want to use Arumat, as I'd have to give up one of my main party members. (I almost always have the main character stick with the party). Also, replacing Meracle or Reimi was a no-no.
