Kailea, you really need to stop playing bad games.

First Enchanted Arms and now Neverdead - the only game in existence where you can be attacked in the middle of a cutscene. Then you punish your nephew with Echoes of Time...

    What's next? Asura's Wrath?

    Also...

The original Shin Megami Tensei released on iOS -Destructoid

Before you get excited... Index Corp. didn't bother to get Atlus USA to localize it into English. So hopefully you know Japanese, that is, if you can get past the fact that an artificial D-pad and buttons takes up half the screen of a $15 GBA port.

Speaking of AW, 77 Metacritic and 7.5 from IGN...

GT gave it a 6.5 with high marks on presentation, but everything else pretty well tanked (like a 5.3 on gameplay). I wouldn't even give that game the time of day personally.

I had a huge freakout session today at lunch with my friend re: Asura's Wrath. Both El Shaddai and Dante's inferno scored lower on metacritic than AW. Both are actual games with much more content and replay value. AW is a piece of shit.

        I don't understand.

DI was perceived as a God of War knockoff and couldn't shake that stigma.

I enjoyed it for what it was - a brilliant interpretation of The Divine Comedy. The attention to detail was utterly disturbing, but in a good way. It wasn't the best game ever, but it was definitely very unique.

New control scheme sucks and there's no space to build momentum between jumps because they just throw jumps at you everywhere every few seconds. Also a ton of Brit-pop in here, not that its bad, but its not very SSX, even if they toss in bits of Run DMC's "Tricky." Also the trash talking, frequent commenting from the SSX cast is now just replaced with generic "attitude." I don't think they even got people to reprise their old characters, plus they lack the creative looks they all had in the past, everyone just looks so earthy now. Zoe and Moby were my favorites and now they're both pretty boring to listen to and look at.

The flying squirrel suit element is an interesting twist, but it doesn't seem have a lot of places to be used.

Its SSX without any of the charm it once held, they don't even bother to have an announcer there for commentary this time. I wasn't expecting Rahzel again, but it couldn't have hurt to have him back taunting players.

            Very disappointing.

If you want to give it a spin its on 360 Marketplace now and should be up on SEN later tonight. But don't expect SSX Tricky or SSX 3 out of it, its not nearly as good as those two.
Did you try changing the control scheme over to Classic in the options? I too wasn't very fond of the default controls, and looking to see if I could change them was the very first thing I did. Granted, Classic isn't exactly like the older games, but it is close enough that I was able to have plenty of fun.

I'd have to agree to an extent on them throwing way too many jumps at you too quickly, and I totally agree on the look of the characters. I'm hoping that we'll be able to purchase wackier clothing later in the game. More realistic attire is fine as a default, but I don't want all the clothing in the game to look like that.

And regarding the soundtrack, while I didn't dislike it, if the whole soundtrack doesn't wow me, I'll just copy my SSX3 soundtrack to the hard drive and listen to that while I play the game.

As for my feelings on the demo, I'll just copy paste something I wrote elsewhere:

            I have. And it does.

They (kind of) brought back the Tricky song that plays when your bar is full, Ubers no longer ALWAYS slow the game down in retarded Matrix time like they did in On Tour, you actually play as the SSX cast now instead of personality-free created characters, the two courses they let you try are both well designed, the game is going to have some fresh new aspects (like the wingsuit), it looks to have some awesome online integration like keeping you up to date on if you are staying ahead of your friends, and despite the fact that they came up with a new control scheme, they give you the option to play with a playstyle almost entirely the same as past games in the series.

I do have a few concerns, though. The personality of Zoe seemed kind of subdued, making me wonder how lively the characters will be in this game. Mac seemed a little better but I'm hoping Kaori and Psymon will be as chatty as they always have been, and that they have their proper personalities. I also did not hear DJ Atomika like I was hoping to. I also am not fond that doing a tail/nose press and then spinning can not be done with just the right stick, having to press up or down on the right stick and THEN having to rotate the left stick...but I'm sure I'll get used to that. There has also better be a free roam mode where you can shred by your lonesome without having to worry about racing, doing tricks, or any kind of stat tracking at all. Lastly, as there are so many different locations in the game, I am saddened by the face that we won't be able to do like we did in SSX3 where we can literally be dropped off at the very top of the mountain, and seamlessly snowboard all the way to the bottom in one entire half hour stretch if we want to.

I don't think any SSX game will ever top SSX 3 for me, but this game is definitely looking pretty solid.

My sister hooked me up with a sweet .rar file that has all three Mother games and emulators to boot. I'm about 10 minutes into the first one, for the NES, and I already feel like playing this game is a chore. That's never a good sign, but I think I'll stick it out for a few hours and see if that doesn't change.

The one we got was Mother 3 wasn't it? w/e one it was, Earthbound was like, the most ridiculous RPG ever and the only one afaik that actually came with the strategy guide because it was just that damned vague.

Asura's Wrath? oh god no... but hey Echoes of time is not the best, but with 2+ players it is very fun, my nephew loves it in fact (it is his first RPG, trying to teach him RPG basics)

You start them on things like Chrono Trigger and FFVI so they come to like good RPGs, though. Or Pokemon.

<_< there's been plenty of amazing PS3 titles for years now. Good luck finding a copy of Valkyria Chronicles outside of online retailers, though.

Fiddling around on Diablo II: LoD again for shits & giggles. I've resisted it up to this point but I finally caved since I can't re-sub to FFXIV just yet (they gotta fix that 180 day option by March 1st otherwise I'll have to bite the bullet) plus I just miss the nostalgia. I'm rather annoyed though that you still have to use your old (or "Classic") battle.net account, which I can't recall for the life of me but I don't think it matters for D2 - my Key is tied to primary bnet account so I think I can still just make up any old account and use that to play online.

Also playing D2 makes me very sad that D3 won't have Paladin, Assassin or Necromancer. Oh how I missed Corpse Explosion, best skill EVER bar none. I defy anyone to bring up a more hilarious/OP skill. Nothing like amplify damage + CE to deal thousands and thousands of damage to everything on & off screen on Hell difficulty rofl.

They have 2 directions they can go in.

                          1) They will become the guy who uses only starters on their team and throws toy Pokeballs at you in the mall.
                          2) They will become an obsessive EV/IV (hell, I didn't even bother with the whole IV thing) trainer who ensures they have a balanced team of attack, support, and defense Pokemon bent on destroying the will and spirit of Wifi players belonging to category 1. Or they will become overwhelmed by the grinding of it all and give up like I did. Nasty Plot Raichu with Grass Knot and Focus Blast forever!

Category 2 is preferable of course.

Chrono Trigger is just a given.

In other news, damn man, I am just getting done getting used to the idea of going into falmer dungeons in Skyrim. Now Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is pulling the whole feral-humanoids-in-dark-places thing on me now. I don't know. Something about the whole idea that, stripped of all conscience and reason, humanity is just a cannibalistic savage beast, was always something that I had trouble digesting. Probably why zombie movies are among the kinds I have the most difficulty watching.

to much reading on normal RPGs, I had to start him on something that was light on reading, or in this case I could read and he could just ignore it. he is 5, but has a bit of a reading issue. That and he will not play games by himself, he only wants to play co-op games -.-

I was playing Link to the Past at 5 or 6 and that had plenty of reading in it. Reading in a game shouldn't be a deterrent, it should be a motivation to get better at reading.

I don't mean to pry here but reading issue is pretty vague. If he's just under his reading level, then getting him to read more would probably be the best way - most kids don't read enough on their own and so they end up falling behind in school. Just a matter of finding something he's really interested in. Disabilities (like Dyslexia) are a whole other story though.

As far as co-op RPGs go, Secret of Mana is awesome. It's light on story, heavy on the action & it's 3 players. The story's just interesting/complicated enough for a kid I'd say.

Kind of ironic I guess when I love games with long, complex stories yet SoM is 1 of my most cherished games of all time.
