  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Not a game I'm actually playing but that I'm interested in seeing once it's done.

Reminds me of LIMBO for obvious reasons, and I will be trying out the Binding of Isaac eventually, as always, once I'm done with Skyrim (over 200 hours of gameplay and not even a hint of an end in sight though.)

MEGA MAN X - iPhone - HD Gameplay Trailer - YouTube!

Is that an ugly iOS version of Megaman X with in-app purchases for all the power-ups in the game?

      Why yes, it is!

I just spent 10 minutes trying to sort my thoughts about this game to try and explain how I felt about it.

Apparently, the words I currently know are just not suited for the task. But there were a lot of clearly defined curses mixed up in there, I can assure you that.

              Currently Playing: Tiny Tower
              Platform: iPhone/Android
              Price: FTP

It's one of those Facebook-type games. Essentially you build a skyscraper 1 floor at a time. You can build residential floors, Business floors, amusement floors and so on. The people who live in your tower (in the residential floors) also work in the various businesses you build. You earn money every 24 hours in the form of rent from your residents. You also earn money from the Businesses themselves.

Just like in any game like this... you have to stock the shops with merchandise to sell and the "stocking" process takes a variable amount of time based on the price of each item.

Example: Stocking the hat shop with Trucker Hats takes 15 minutes and costs me something like $500. After that time passes, I hit "complete" and it throws 300 or so hats into the store to be sold to people as they RANDOMLY stop in. Each hat sells for $3... you get the idea.

Customers to stores automatically load up inside of them randomly... but you'll get the occasional person who shows up in the "lobby" on the ground floor with the little speach bubble above their head indicating what floor they would like to go to. You use the up and down arrows provided to operate the elevator to bring them there. The floor they pick is random (like am lot of things) and they pay you a $ amount equal to 2x the # of the floor.

Example: Joe Schmoe in the lobby wants to go to floor 15. I use the elevator to bring him there and I get rewarded with $30. Simple enough.

Building anything at all costs $... but you can "rush" a any timed process by using up "Bucks". Anyone who has played these types of games knows where this is going. You earn these "Bucks" by completing various things... or as "tips" from your residents. Most FB games make this kind of money hard to come by and then offer it to you in exchange for REAL MONEY. They do the same thing with Tiny Tower, but it's really not necessary.

Why?: Well... because along with people who want to use the elevator... you'll also get the occasional person in the lobby who is a delivery person... of sorts. They ask you to bring whatever it may be to a specific resident. Simply accept the request to do it and figure out what floor that person is on. Click that floor and boom... 1 Buck reward. You also get a 1 buck reward every time you build a floor to your tower. I've been playing for 2-3 days now and I've accumulated 103 bucks so far, it's not hard. Anything you want to "rush" usually only costs 2-3 of them anyway.

All in all... fun game. Much more fair to the FTP players than most games of it's type. If you're into these kinda games, it's worth a look at least.

Picked up a 3DS card for the eShop the other night.

Picked up Mighty Switch Force, Pushmo, Metroid II: Return of Samus and the free Swapnote app.

MSF and Pushmo are well worth the money if you like puzzle platformers. in one night they've both become my favorite downloadable games all year, aside from Sword and Sworcery on iPhone.

Linking the page to the Nintendo site since the Youtube videos make the games look stretched and ugly when they're not >.>

Mighty Switch Force! at Nintendo :: Games

                  Pushmo at Nintendo :: Games

Swapnote is also a great deal of fun. Its essentially a messaging system for your friends list, but you you can send images or doodle stuff in 3D. Its really well done

I also demoed Trine 2 on PSN and I really liked it. Reminds me a great deal of The Lost Vikings.

Also, if you dug what you heard of the MSF music. You can checkout Jake Kaufman's site:

You can choose to pay or download the OST for free.

                      Currently playing:

                      Uncharted 3 (PS3)
Trine 2 (PS3 / PSN) -> Just finished the platinum trophy on this. GREAT game!

After I finish U3's single player (soon), I think I'll move on to Batman: Arkham City.

Skyrim can continue to collect dust until Bethesda can find more than one buttcheek with both hands and release a patch that doesn't break other things.

Someone posted this on Destructoid saying it was the best Christmas-themed video game level ever. It made me weepy.

I need to find a copy of Elite Beat Agents, I never got around to that one. And really, for a karaoke version of something by Peter Cetra/Chicago, that was really well done.

Beat Parasite Eve 2 finally. Awesome game, would like to grab The 3rd Birthday at some point as well, though I have no idea if 2 and 3 even connect properly like 1 and 2 did. From what I've read it's simply several years later and Aya's powers are mysteriously gone and the whole planet has just gone FUBAR.

Going to rent Uncharted 3 later, then possibly Skyrim idk. Not really big on Bethesda's games, Fallout 3 was just a complete drag and way too open ended. Sidequests should be just that, bloody sidequests and not the main feature of the game. This is where Deus Ex excelled, instead focusing on multiple avenues to tackle the main story and differing outcomes (somewhat anyway) rather than "here's a short, crappy, half-assed main plot and a whole open world to explore."

That's what MMOs are for (or D&D if you're into that).

ITT : Mal, doesn't handle freedom very well.

Also, the main story is not crappy in Skyrim and has a better system than F3. But it isn't the main feature either, and never has been, or more precisely there is no main feature in these games. Whatever it is that you are interested in becomes the main feature. And MMOGs can only dream they could have worlds this open ended while handling large amounts of players in the same place at the same time.

                            ___

Aaand I'm still playing Skyrim, after more than 200 hours I finally decided to move forward and get my Blades armor and weapon/shield, very awesome having that for melee fighting and my Ezio gear for assassinating.

Also expecting at least another 200 hours of gameplay before I even find all the dungeons or feel like I'm done with the game. Even now -200 hours later- I haven't stopped finding new places or random events or new vistas. And that's not even counting DLCs and mods coming up next year.

Exploration in an MMORPG is a finite experience at best. It's there in the first month of an MMO, then its go. Comes back again in an expansion and its gone just as fast. You're too focused on progress, getting on the same page and the social element that you never, ever truly just roam and experience the world on your own whim.

If you want focused stories, that's fine, but that is not what games have to be about. If anything, your notion is something gaming would do well to move away from, as too many of them are becoming overpriced movies.

Its funny you mention Deus Ex, too. because when all is said and done and you've tackled every way you could play it, you've invested almost 120-140 hours. Much of that is not paying attention to the main story at all.

I think you're really just down on the game because Skyrim isn't something that neatly fits into your rental apporach. Its not just a story, its a huge piece of a world's history when all is said and done, there's lore in this game that connects all the way back to shit I was doing in Morrowind - and I found it just by roaming about. I not only learned what Morrowind was like now, but what became of the Telvanni household, Red Mountain and all these other places I had been to before.

Exploration is one of the main reasons I enjoy games. Zelda and Metroid were the games that kicked that off and still do it incredibly well. Elder Scrolls gives you a great deal of it, too, just in its own way.

They even have a couple TES novels out there. You obsess over novels for Halo, for crying out loud.

Also installing BF3 and contemplating re-subbing for XI, though I think I'll wait on that for a tad longer - maybe during the last 3 months of my XIV sub and the 99 merits are in place etc. etc.
