Just got home from the midnight sale. Put in MGS HD Collection first thing.

As it turns out Bluepoint Games, the guys that had a hand in the Ico/SotC collection, also worked on this game. 60 fps, 1080p.

MGS2 and 3 are the Substance/Subsistance versions, though it seems Snake Vs. Monkey and MGO's first incarnation aren't included, but MG and MG2 are there on the MGS3 portion. I guess the Snake vs. Monkey thing wouldn't be proper for the 360 version, which makes sense, I guess.

Sorry, but as bad as Activision might be, they don't treat customers as suspect like EA does. I not getting either, just waiting for the next Counterstrike instead since it will be crossplatform multiplayer on PS3 like Portal 2 was. I'll stick with the guys that treat me best.

I am going to the midnight sale tonight, though, just for MGS HD and Cave Story 3D. Dunno if I'll be playing them much this week, with so much else around the corner and my current fascination with DCUO, but I'll at least get Cave Story in on my breaks at work.

I can put up with a little mistrust if it doesn't affect my in-game experience (and as much as I dislike Origin, it hasn't seriously impacted my gameplay in any EA game thus far). That doesn't mean I don't want Origin to fall into the nearest volcano on principle, but it generally stays out of the way.

We're going to have to agree to disagree about which of the two is worse. To me, Activision's slash-and-burn attitude towards their studios and franchises is way more destructive than EA's moneygrubbing. As a consumer, I want better products to buy, and EA's policies generally do not impact the quality of the software and they don't impact how much I pay for games due to the way I buy games, whereas Activision just shoves half-baked sequels down your throat until everyone gets sick of them.

EDIT: By the by, I was also at the midnight launch for reasons of my own. My "WTF" moment of the night was having someone tell me that Battlefield 3 didn't look as good as Modern Warfare. Having now seen the PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of both games in action, BF3 is clearly visually superior on consoles (but MW3 obviously has an advantage in framerate). I'm actually surprised at how dated the engine for MW3 looks now - there's some seriously awful textures going on. Haven't seen MW3 on PC yet, but considering how drop dead amazing BF3 is on PC, I expect it to look better on PC as well.

Not me playing, but I suppose it's more topical here than in the off-topic thread. Apparently a friend of mine got the world record for Sky Sanctuary Zone Act 1 in Sonic Generations.

Wow I was kind of leery about playing the new Sonic game, but wow its great, I need a small break from my steam games and Disgaea, this might be what I need.

I'm holding out on Sonic for now, there's just too much coming out and by the end of this week I'll have picked up four games.

MGS HD Collection, Cave Story, Skyrim and Super Mario 3D Land.

There's four next week too @.@

Saints Row the Third, UMVC3, Shinobi and Zelda.

I ain't lookin at a purchase til Mario Kart 7 after all that. I might squeeze the 3DS Sonic in late December if there's some gift cards laying around, but if Sonic and Mario have a game near the same time, I'll side with Mario.

Damn, Newegg.com, why are you always awesome! Pre-ordered MGS HD Collection from them due to the -$10 off promotion, and was expecting to receive it at least on the 9th-10th due to to the 2-day free shipping. It's already out for delivery from 4 AM!

That and Skyrim coming on the 11th... Goodbye, society!

Oh look, Saint's Row the Third has an online pass. That's a shame, I was looking forward to the game, well, minus the dildo bat part.

Pre-order cancelled.

I made an exception for Arkham City, but only because it was bundled with Arkham Asylum for $60 at Wal-Mart. That's a value and I'll support value, even though I'm sure Wal-Mart got a rain check on the AA games. Its a pity these days that publishers are struggling with the concept of value.

Maybe if they, you know, gave the developer a bigger cut or used the revenue from DLC sales wisely they wouldn't have to worry about the used market.

Oh well, that does free up some cash to buy RDR GOTY Edition new.

anyway snagged 3 new retro games today, Mario Kart (SNES) Dracula Unleashed (Sega CD) and Mansion of Hidden Souls (Sega CD)

Now that I have 2 Sega CD games, here is to hoping I win that auction on the CD unit, and if I do, I will buy Popful Mail to celebrate ;p

Well they tried to hard to force 2 different play styles in the same game.

Young Sonic plays like the old Sega Sonics do
Present Sonic plays like he does now


Act 1 is always young Sonic, Act 2 is always present Sonic, and you have to beat 6 acts, and 3 challenges just to fight the first boss.

So finishing the levels in not enough anymore, now you have to do level challenges to get boss keys to fight the boss -.-

Oh. I knew all of that already. That's kind of the point of the game. Haven't played it yet so I don't know how inconvenient the boss issue is. To be fair, though, most of the bosses in Sonic 1-3 were braindead easy.

My favorite moments in DCUO are quickly becoming the enemy players that attack you then turn to run when they realize you're too strong for them. I keep all my upgrades hidden because I like my lantern's Guy Gardener-meets-Black Canary look.

ok well I was a bit rushed in my complaints about the new Sonic, it is good, and defiantly much better then the past few, guess I was expecting way more classic, but been playing it more, and it is growing on me.
