  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Avoiding being poisoned is simple enough, it's being poisoned that sucks. If you've got a ring that can help mitigate damage from poison, that's probably a worthy investment. Otherwise, I believe you can find herbs that cure poison.

Yeah I think Dakattack has it right. I have a ton of moss that takes poison away from Darkroot Garden. It's an easy drop from the Demonic Shrubbery (or w/e it's called).

Went to the Depths last night... killed a huge rat. Didn't die once. I think I hit every pitfall though, lol. But those slimes are tricky bastards. I haven't quite got the timing down to avoid them sometimes.

Yeah, I think I'll go ahead and get it. Thanks, Dak.

Oh, and a friend of mine earlier today was bitching about getting poisoned by almost everything in the swamp, which made that ring sound even better. XD

Being poisoned isn't really avoidable in the swamp unless you've got some crazy poison immunity. Running around down there means literally being poisoned 70% of the time while fighting monsters, a black phantom, rock throwers, and being chased and pestered by constantly spawning vespoids from Monster Hunter.

But it's also the home of a pyromancy trainer, so I'll forgive the place.

Well to sum up tonight's progress, I bought the poison ring, and then I went to go see the merchant in the Undead Burgh to load up on arrows, and I also bought the residence key so I could get in that one house (I found golden pine resin).

After that, I decided it was time I did away with those black knights I hadn't killed. So I killed the one that you see down a tunnel with his back to you (near where you fight the Taurus Demon) and then I went and killed the one on top of a tower near where you fight the first armored boar.

Then I went and used the basement key near the bridge with asshole red dragon, and went down and got killed by the poison hollow thieves. But it was because of their general dickery that I died, since not once did anything successfully poison me.

Then I respawned and went back and killed everything in there, and then I went through the white void thing and almost had my face taken off by the Capra Demon. Thankfully I dodged him and ran up the stairs. I killed his two dogs after they both hit me from behind, and then I killed the big guy by getting in some hits after I dodged some of his attacks, and also a couple of times I ran up the stairs and plunge attacked him, which did so much damage I probably should have just done that from the beginning.

I'm still wondering when I'm going to get some better armor. Everything I find is worse than what I have, save for some stuff I got from the knights in the undead church, and that stuff makes me entirely too heavy to suit my playstyle. Ah well. What I have now is working for me (so far), so I guess I can't complain too much yet.

Sadly, I must take a break from the game for tonight. Pesky work tomorrow, preventing my fun Dark Souls times. :<

I am going to try and finish White Knight Chronically II today, then trade it in while I can still get the 50% bonus. I liked the online, but I just can not get into it, and I am looking forward to the new Dragon Ball, and believe it or not Battlefield 3 (I am not a FPS person ;p)

Went into the Depths today, and while down there I got invaded. For a while I didn't see anyone, but then when I fell down some stupid hole and made my way back up to one of the first big hallways, I saw him. I came close to dying a couple of times as he got in a few hits with the big sword he was using, but luckily he was pretty much all offense, so I'd mostly defend until he'd do a few swings, and then I'd get in a strong attack and then go back to defending. A couple of times a few big rats tried to come in and fuck up my fight, but I just kept defending and moved around so that the rat would be between me and the invader so I'd kill the rat while attacking him. Finally, he went down, and I got about 8000 souls, some humanity, and a spiked shield.

After that, I finished exploring the place, and then got to where signs were saying "dragon ahead" and "be wary of boss" and saw that there were three things I could use to summon someone into my battle. After like two failed attempts finally I got someone to join me, and we took on the very scary looking Gaping Dragon and won.

I'm going to take a little break and let my wife play, but good progress today so far! :3

Well, I ventured into Blighttown, which greeted me with less than a warm welcome. Between me getting toxic from blow dart dudes, and me making a mad dash to try and get back to where I dropped my souls last time I died, things weren't going so hot for me.

I eventually ended up dying before I could pick them back up, and since my 6000-7000 souls were gone (;A, I could concentrate more on exploring as I didn't have as much to lose.

At first, it was infuriating, as the asshole enemies would literally come out of nowhere it seemed. I'd see no enemies around, then slowly walk over to an edge to try and see what was down below, and on two separate occasions an enemy came up behind me, hit me, and sent me falling to my death.

A few Meat Boy-ish attempts of running and jumping all over the place later, and I had found lots of soul-granting items, the Shadow equipment set, and the Iaito.

Eventually I made my way down to the muddy swamp part, and wandered around collecting items and killing ugly-ass bugs before finding the bonfire. Then I ran off to the spiky mountain, and went in and ran into Quelaag. I was all "O HAI" and she basically gave me the flesh-searing lava equivalent of a "fuck you" more times than I would have liked. Then, just as I was about to quit for the night, I gave it ONE MORE TRY, and after some very careful defensive action, and occasional sprints to less lava-covered parts of the room, I brought her down for the count, and went and rang the 2nd bell.

SUMMARY FOR ANYONE THAT SAW THE ABOVE AND SAID OMG TLDR:

I beat Quelaag the booby spider lady! Yay!

I beat Quelaag on my first attempt. I think she's a pretty simple fight, but she does bug out. Most bosses seem to bug out. I rung the second bell and attempted Sen's fortress, but that seems a bit too difficult for me. Fighting two serpent men at once is a huge pain, and I hardly do any damage to them.

I keep seeing different people's suggestions for what level someone should be before attempting Blighttown, but I was level 28 or 29 when I went there. It really seems that it's more about your equipment than your level in this game and especially in that area, though.

Between my poison bite ring, spider shield, and purple moss (and hunting down the blow dart guys early on), I didn't have to worry too much about poison in the area, and for Quelaag, after biting it a few times, I decided to look through my shields and I equipped one with far better fire resistance.

Now, I'm just wondering where I should go next. I still haven't checked out the Darkroot Forest very much, or the Valley of the Drakes. I'm also wondering what equipment I should use. I want something that isn't overly heavy but provides better protection than what I'm wearing. Aside from some steel helmet I'm wearing, I'm still wearing the leather armor I started the game with. All I've done is had the blacksmith upgrade each piece a couple of times. Everything I've found seems to provide significantly less defense with the only real benefit being half the weight, and the few items I have that are better make me much too sluggish. I know that's kind of the point, there being a trade-off between protection and maneuverability, but I'm still hoping for something akin to a Drake Sword when it comes to armor. Something I just have to wear because it's so awesome.

I'm also excited to go back and have the blacksmith upgrade the Iaito. Since my character's highest stat is Dex, I want to see how good the Iaito is for my character, since it has a B in parameter bonus for dexterity.

There are a ton of armor sets, but none of them are on the same level as the Drake sword. You're going to find pretty much all the starter sets before anything else, with only a few exceptions.

My Knight starting equipment is all +5, with the shield being +10. I'm pretty good in the defense department, but I went and put 20 points into Vitality, Stamina, and Resistance, anyways. I'm working on my Faith, to round it all out.

The shadow set is really light, and also looks like a ninja, so I'm tempted to use that.

I'm wondering if a few upgrades on each piece will make it comparable in defense to what I'm using.

Oh, and on the Iaito...it says it does 300 bleed damage. Adding an elemental property later on won't take the place of the bleed damage, will it? I seem to remember reading somewhere that each weapon could only have one status ailment at a time that it could cause.

I'd be so much more knowledgeable about this game if I had more time to tinker around in it. XD I only get to play a bit here and there.
