I also just can't stomach the use of ironsights and the mindless EXP grind grafted onto these games now. What happened to the good old days of nice, quick tight matches and you succeeded by player skill rather than perks you grinded for. It makes such games rather prohibitive to newcomers and doesn't get dedicated players out of bad habits.

Uh, BF is very much based on skill. It does suck when you're up against someone with more unlocks than you, but generally BF puts heavy emphasis on skill & teamwork. Case in point, last night I was up in the rafters of the tunnel (right where it opens up after destroying the 1st base in Metro) and just nailing people right as they stepped into my FoV with my SVD.

I especially love the new Suppression EXP bonus. Even if you're not hitting anyone, if you lay down suppressing fire over an objective and effectively prevent the enemy from getting near it, you get EXP for that.

And again, it's a month-old build they're using for the Beta - the final product will look and play much better. I just wish they actually let you mess with the controls for the console versions (apparently only PC users can which is just fucking stupid).

Not sure why people hate the iron sights. Some guns are better than others but overall I find they're almost more reliable than the red dot or laser sights. The laser sight in particular is really bad I find when sniping - it's great for lining up shots, but it reveals your position.

The Beta completed it's purpose; letting you get a feel for the game. From what I've played so far, October 25 can't come any sooner! The controlling is a lot less clunkier than BFBC2, albeit less responsive at times but, eh, Beta.

One thing I really dislike... is that spawn beacon. If you want to pick it up, you have to hit the right D-Pad like you're bringing it out, hold X, then reload to use it again. So unnecessary~

i still can't figure out how the hell you ID enemies so that your teammates can see them. In BC2 on 360 it was the back button, but I'm on PS3 for this one.

Playing Witcher 2 mixed with some DXHR here and there. Also going to start playing as many games as I can before November. 'Cause after 11.11.11 I'm not going to be playing other games for a while.

It seems to be automatic. I looked at somebody, they died, and I got points for pointing them out. I didn't stick a target of their head for myself, but I'm guessing I did for something.

Also, the laser pointers are funny. You can shine them in people's eyes and blind them.

It gives you the bonus for spotting them if they die, yes - but I want to highlight them with the orange triangle for everyone to see. I did that religiously on BF3, even if I was about to snipe someone - I like to point out positions first. That's just how I play.

Unfortunately this works both ways - your team mates will also blind you which happens to me quite frequently and it's annoying as hell (not to mention hard on the eyes).

I started playing the original Deus Ex again yesterday. I almost started BioShock first since it is also in my queue of classics I have never finished and I recently listened to an interview with Ayn Rand's biographer, but I went with being able to talk to cid about video games instead.

So far it's much better than I remember. I have a better feel for the stealth side of the game than I used to, and it helps that years of parenting has increased my patience a thousandfold from when I was younger. I have historically been absolute shit at stealth games and that really hamstrung me in Deus Ex since I was compelled to view stealth and non-lethal as the "correct" way to play the game. I'm tempted now to start over in realistic mode (was on medium) to play up and force the combat avoidance, and possibly run a parallel game on a lower difficulty with a brute force approach just to see how the mission flow and dialog change.

I may have to load up the Thief games after this and see if those are more enjoyable now as well.

Jumped into the BF3 beta. Never played a BF game ever. Didn't enjoy it. Was a bit too... real for me. Didn't like that I was getting aced by people I'm already shooting in the back yet I seemed to be fairly easy to one-shot. I was already tired of the modern warfare FPSims after MWII... think I'm just done with them. Proly a good game for those who enjoy the genre... I'm just kinda done with it now.

Trying to justify buying Dark Souls before I can afford it and still having Gears3, Ico, and SotC to finish along with playing FFxi. Nothing releases all freakin' summer and then BLAM... my wallet is raped. I'm feeling the pressure too... cuz Skyrim comes out in just over a month and I know that game will swallow me whole. I just need to get through Gears3 and Ico to feel like I'm making headway...

You're not supposed to die that fast. I had a similar experience the other day getting the jump on 4 people with a shotgun and only somehow managing to kill one, despite placing 5 expert shots right into their collective spinal cords...

The last battlelog (their live feed for updates on the game) listed the buggy damage as one of the known exploits that's been fixed for the final release.

Also BF is not CoD. It's hard trying to get myself out of the Halo/CoD mentality lol but I'm managing. You can't just blindly rush the enemy or you WILL get owned, hard. I'm just sick of all the fucking Ninjas jumping out of thin air when I've done a thorough check of my surroundings. I swear it's as if they just spawn behind me at the exact moment I run by


I just got Origin and the PC Beta last night, gonna try it out later to see how much better PC is over PS3, and if my Rig can handle it on modest settings. Going from 24 to 64 players is gonna take a loooot of adjusting though rofl.

And yeah, I got BF3 coming up and Halo:CEA on pre-order, POSSIBLY MW3 (after launch) IF it proves to be a true improvement. I really like how they've structured the perks and everything this time around, but if it just ends up being MW2.5 then... meh, rental at best.

Yeah... well, I'm just kinda over the realism in my vidgames. It started with MW. I just don't like escaping into what is actually happening somewhere in RL. I like my escapism with an extra helping of fantasy these days. Nice to know that it wasn't entirely my fault though, lol.

So... I purchased Dark Souls... apparently the Gamestop sold out of the upgraded versions before I placed my pre-order. That would have been nice to know. I would have possibly saught out another place to purchase it... maybe even Amazon. I am disappoint. But that won't last too long... that will most likely go away as soon as I stick it in my console and start playing.

You're not missing much. You get a hard case and an art book, plus access to some digital stuff. The guide is digital, which sucks, but it's easily shareable. I ordered the hard back strategy guide from Amazon, because I'm hoping it's awesome. So far, this game is crazy. I know I missed stuff in the intro, but I've been fooling around in the starting area and it's rough but doable. Just the way I like it.

So umm... yeah.

I hope the final console build of BF3 is a LOT better - Jesus fucking Christ, there is NO COMPARISON WHATSOEVER to the PC. I was running it smoothly on High settings (and my PC is 4 years old now if not older... new GPU and Power Supply but that's all I've upgraded) and just... fuck.


I know it's a month old build and everything, but come on. Now that I think about it, I've seen better looking games on PS3 than BF3's beta - the final build had better be a lot sharper. What I saw on my PC tonight was what I was expecting from PS3, with Ultra settings being even sweeter for people with an expensive rig.

Simply put, it's bullshit. PC version also has a conquest map for 64 vs 64 with Vehicles. Gonna try that out tomorrow.

I'm still trying to set up a gamepad as I fucking hate using KB & Mouse for FPS. I just can't get over what a difference there is not only in the graphics but just how much smoother the experience is on PC as well - as long as you connect to a decent server (I've been able to find servers with a ping between 28 & 45 which is nice) you're golden. There aren't half the glitches & bugs that are plaguing the PS3 beta.


Still haven't figured out how to run around with your knife out though like I've seen some people do...
