oh mmm interesting, well even then I have enough backlog to take care of first, only game I am really making an exception for is Zelda. Dead Island was a big disappointment for me, and further showed myself why I tire of modern games.

Atlus USA confirmed today that server support for Demon's Souls will continue into sometime next year, though they stated it was coming at a significant cost to them.

I realize I don't have to play it to play Dark Souls, as its not a direct sequel. I'm just playing it first because it was there first on my shelf.

Well, that and Atlus published it. They tend to have interesting picks as in what they publish. The only time they ever steered me wrong was Magna Carta.

Which reminds me. I need to pre-order The Cursed Crusade.

      ------------------------

I got my hands on Bit.Trip Saga for 3DS today. It was actually really hard to get it, because GS wouldn't take preorders on it and no stores in the area had it save for one Gamestop like 45 miles away.

So I pestered the Asst. Manager to get to have that store send it to us. They sent us Bit.Trip Complete as well. I may be picking that up as well just because I really enjoy the series and wouldn't mind having the Wii version as well.

3DS version is good, the only real problem is that Runner and Fate don't keep a stable framerate with the 3D enabled. The rest of the game works out fine in 3D and the touch controls make Beat and Flux control like a dream. No silly tilt controls here. While the admittedly worked well on the Wii versions, the tilting got tiresome.

It just sucks time flies so quickly when you play Bit.Trip. I'd start a level of Beat or Runner and then break would be over at work and all I could do was gaze longingly at the boxart as I did my work.

Well, I only spent $55 bucks this week and I got 8 games.

Orange Box, Ico/SotC Collection and Four Swords.

OK, that last one was free and the first one as used. And there's an employee discount going on there. Hard to find a copy of Orange Box for PS3, actually.

At any rate, I got plenty to keep me busy now. Don't think I'll be playing this version of TF2 seriously, though. Mostly got if for Portal and Half-Life.

I couldn't stick with DA:O. Its not a problem with the game so much as I think with Devil Survivor and DX and Oblivion prior that I'm more in the mood for action based RPGs right now. Devil Survivor has the turn-based covered and queue-based games sometimes test my patience. Just not the right time for it.

Fired up Ico/SotC for a bit today, along with Child of Eden for PS3.

Shadow of the Colossus is still great, though it's PS2 roots are showing in the lack of polygon counts. The colossi are amazing in HD; the world environment... not so much.

Child of Eden on PS3 is absolutely orgasmic when played with PlayStation Move in stereoscopic 3D. Seriously mind-blowing. I haven't gotten this tingly playing a new game in a very long time.

I'm totally not joking. There are over 100 games on my PS3 shelf, and while I really enjoy nearly all of the games I own in one aspect or another, only a few of them have made me sit up and really say "Wow!" out of doing something so well beyond expectation. Child of Eden is one of those few.

Games I classify in my "Wow" list:

                * Rock Band (outstanding online co-op)
                * Demon's Souls (incredible online player interaction)
                * LittleBigPlanet (endless user generated content)
                * Grand Theft Auto 4 (lifelike virtual world)
                * The Eye of Judgment (augmented reality)

                To this I add:

                * Child of Eden (outstanding motion control + outstanding 3D visuals)

Apparently the graphics are compressed or something, since DICE originally said the beta would be 2-3GB.

Shame the servers are down... The time I finally get the chance to jump on, BOOM. EA connection lost.

nice list of "wow" games, I would agree with you on it as well, few games give that "wow" feeling anymore.

It's a month-old build (because the current build would have been a much bigger download) so it looks like crap. Add to this the lag and graphical glitches and ... well, it's kinda frustrating.

I LOVE the core gameplay, but there are a lot of issues - basically, it's just a shitty beta to test the servers and little more. I mean you can't even VIEW the controls, never mind customize them. I honestly don't know why they even bothered, this could have been done internally...

It plays just like BC2 did, with tweaks to the classes etc etc which is fine - but you definitely can't pass any sort of judgment based on this beta. In particular, I'm getting beyond sick of people sneaking up on me out of nowhere and 1-shotting me with assault rifles. It's fucking stupid, you can't drop someone that fast with an M16 even with headshots.

I was in this 1 lobby where some douche and his clan mates were practically cheating, dropping everyone instantly... hopefully that gets fixed. It's pretty cool though that now snipers have a glint off their scopes, and you can blind people with your laser & tactical lights if you aim them in their faces.

What's a person shot in the head supposed to do, be able to turn around and fire back without his head?

                        Also, I finished Portal.

                        For science.

                        You monster.

Saving the Half-Life 2 stuff for later, though I'm puzzled - are episode one and two additional scenarios separate from Half Life 2? Otherwise I would have thought Half Life 2 was "episode one."

They are the continuation to the story. Episode 1 starts right at the end of HL2.

They're called episodes because they were conceived as episodic entries to the Half Life series, instead of full games.

IN THEORY, this means they can get away with recycling engine, assets, etc. and turn around games that are both far cheaper and far more common, as with, you know, every other episodic game out there. But for some reason, VALVe has pretty much entirely abandoned that and made Half Life episodes take longer than many other major series to come out between iterations.

I had heard Episode 3 was just going to be Half Life 3 now.

There really hasn't been a company outside of Telltale games to succeed with the episodic format to this day.

At the very least, Episode 3 is picking up in HL3. In a game like Heavy Rain, where episodic content was also promised, it was abandoned after "The Taxidermist."

                                For Move support, apparently.

But then, Heavy Rain was written by a French guy that apparently has had no real social contact in his life, so even the basic flow of a conversation has wild leaps in logic Phoenix Wright wouldn't have to deal with.

                                ------------------

Just tried the Battlefield 3 Beta.

I hadn't really played a "modern" shooter (unless the Goldeneye revisioning counts), but I wasn't terribly impressed with it. They certainly have the multi-tier levels down and all the Battlefield bells and whistles are there, but matches seem like they can become really long and drawn out.

I also just can't stomach the use of ironsights and the mindless EXP grind grafted onto these games now. What happened to the good old days of nice, quick tight matches and you succeeded by player skill rather than perks you grinded for. It makes such games rather prohibitive to newcomers and doesn't get dedicated players out of bad habits.

I had more fun with the Uncharted 3 beta, but then, it was doing that crazy adventuring/platforming stuff even if it had the "modern" stuff in it.

Plus objectives were made waaaaaaay more clear and were actually fun. That and you got a good sense of the chase rather than just being coldly gunned down by a sniper camped somewhere you can't see him.
