I booted up Dead Island. I can't tell if this is the unfinished or retail version, but it looks like shit and there's no multiplayer option.

Just rented Dead Island from Red Box because curiosity is a bitch.

      I'll play later though. :X

        Probably needs the patch, but the multiplayer option should be there by default even without the patch, I had to disable it myself so it didn't add other people to the game. <_<;

Also, run it on windowed mode at your monitor's resolution (and it will run full screen without window borders, strangely enough.) Because the full screen mode looks like crap in this build.

PS > Chances are we'll have to redownload the client to get the real version.

I'm not asking for DirectorAI* , just some sort of random spawning points and refined re-spawn times. Which shouldn't be hard to implement at all.

        * Although that would be sweet since it adjusts difficulty and number of enemies on the fly.

Did you get the PC version on Steam? Deep Silver sent the wrong version for Steam distribution, they'll be correcting it soonish.

Yea, I heard there's a patch, but I'm never around to see Steam download it. It didn't have console access, but I deleted it and I'll have Steam download it again later.

I've played through the prologue, and that had to be one of the worst tutorial experiences I've ever seen. It's about ten minutes of FNV-style searching through other people's crap for random objects and money, at which no point are you really given any important instruction, like wtf RMB and LMB means, wtf this mini-game is when trying to break through a door, and all that shit. There were a lot of missing textures and floating objects, to boot. It was pretty disappointing.

Now we know why reviews range from 30 to 90 according to Kotaku.

Guess it's one of those games that either you love it or you hate it.

Did not have any of those problems in the PS3/360 version, the game is fine on them, now I will say for me, I have had the game lag alittle (and it is not my connection) and the game has frozen 2 times on me (complete system freeze), this has also happened to two other people I have played online with, so I am sure it is a game issue.

I feel that these problems will be fixed with patches, and I am having lots of fun with it, so I give it 8/10

I'm around the 80-85/100 area with potential for 90+ depending on patches and expansions.

Just hoping future incarnations will allow for custom character creation because while I obviously don't mind playing as a girl (picked Xian for the katana/machete expertise) making your own char makes for better immersion in these games.

Also, DXHR cover mechanics. I'm still wondering how I've played so many FPS games without them.

The low review scores must come from people who played the game online, because that's where you see people abusing some of the more ridiculous game mechanics. For some reason, somebody thought it was a good idea to give every player a way to defend themselves that didn't require upkeep or any kind of resources to use. I'm talking about the kick. What kind of survival game gives you a free way to defend yourself? Online, everybody is kicking everything. They kick it in the face until it falls over, then they kick it while it's down. It's just not fun. But who can blame them? Everything in Banoi is cheaply made and falls apart after five seconds of use. At least when you play solo you can use your weapons and not have to worry about ruining your own fun.

Yeah, DX has some of the best duck/cover mechanics I've seen. Its so good its hard to appreciate the ones I'm using in ME2 right now. I get tagged or the game doesn't "sense" I'm close enough to cover and Shepard is still standing and getting pegged.

Doesn't help that even as Infiltrator, stealth is a joke since your allies will just run in and get the enemy's attention anyway. Its really only good for flanking and barely good for that. Shepard could use a little Solid Snake/Adam Jensen in him/her.

I think that's one of my sticking points about Bioware, though. They're so wrapped up in storytelling and relationship sims that they don't realize the "choice" they're so often championed for also applies to gameplay. When you play Elder Scrolls or Deus Ex, going to a Bioware game just feels more shallow by contrast.

EA-ware is too much in love with their storytelling to allow good open gameplay to get in the way.

Their stories are good, but the lack of choice is too last gen for my taste. I mean you couldn't believe the amount of fun I had in the original ME just driving around planets doing nothing but climbing steep mountains and just plain runing around aimlessly. Since the station gameplay was so linear.

You know, to boldly waste time running around like no one has done before.

They probably don't even use the upgrade system or waste money improving weak/low durability weapons.

Right now I'm using a rotation of 3 Homemade Machetes upgraded to full for the extra durability. They last so much (with only the first durability trait on my char) that I've yet to use the 2nd machete before getting to a workbench to repair. And money is extremely easy to come by so I'm always able to buy the special weapons that guy in the Guard post has from time to time.

It makes me wish I was able to dual wield them.

Unless that works differently in online mode that is, or people are playing Dead Island as if it were L4D. In which case there isn't much you can do for them since they will always break their weapons trying to go on a rampage.

I don't know about the kick though, maybe it just shouldn't do any damage and cost a (very) little amount of stamina. Because the kick+chop has been a valid way to dispose of a zombie since ancient times.

Could also add a special movement (that costs stamina) for when the zombie is down and you kick/stomp it in the head.

Rented Resistance 3 yesterday, not sure exactly how far in I am yet but I'm really liking it.

The first few segments were blurry as fuck though, I thought there was something wrong with my TV - but then it straightened out and the game looks amazing. It's easily the best in the series - haven't tried MP yet.

                            So I just beat R3...

Fail. Complete, god damned failure of an ending. I had been enjoying the game quite a lot, up until the final segments of the game where I felt it all just fell apart really. The final battle was just a let down, and the ending was even worse. It felt cheap & rushed, leaving too much unexplained. Basically they fed us a load of crap that we just have to accept as the ending of the series - and it IS over, there won't be a Resistance 4 - we knew this from the start but to have it end in such an anti-climactic way.

At least the weapons were cool and really fun to use. But I enjoyed the the campaigns of 1 and 2 much more.

Playing Demon's Souls and SFIIIOE tonight. I like the lobby setup as its more of an arcade "next in line takes on winner" setup, pity I can't hear anyone talk, though. A pretty good pair of Ken and Hugo players are owning the room, but the Ken player is actually rather defensive and not all Ken Flow Chart spam. Rather refreshing to see that.

I still haven't played as much of it as I have SSFIV, but overall I'm liking it better. I always liked the EX system, but I'm not much on the whole FADC angle of SFIV

Beat my second boss in Demon's Souls tonight, the Tower Knight. I'm a Hunter, so I just found cover and pegged him with arrows after taking out all the crossbow guys. I've mostly just proceeded with caution in this game and made it a point to learn how to riposte standard enemies, I know everything goes out to the window for the big guys.
