Just finished a Hardcore difficulty playthrough on Dungeon Siege III. Not really sure why this is getting such mediocre reviews. It's not the best game ever, and it's a bit short for an RPG (maybe ~8 hours), but the game is pretty, the engine is stable, and there's a ton of really nice improvements in user interfaces. For instance, it has the best inventory management system I've seen in quite some time. Inventory space is somwhat limited (somwhere around 80 slots or so?), but you can compare items against what you're currently wearing to see if you want to trash them, and trashing an item in your inventory produces a moderate amount of gold as well (not as much as you'd get from a shopkeeper, but you probably won't miss the difference).

Finished Shadows of the Damned on the Medium difficulty, I'll probably make runs on the other difficulties later.

Funny how reviewers say the game has "dated gameplay mechanics," as that seems to be more of a sign of their age as a gamer and the fact they're utterly spoiled by regenerating health and ironsights. This game makes no bones about what it prefers to be and last I checked most people liked RE4's style of play, they just didn't like RE5's diminished emphasis on survival as RE4 still kind of had you getting by on the skin of your teeth in places.

This was never intended to be horror from Suda's standpoint and just about kicking demon ass. There's a wealth of movie and game references, if you're keen on picking them up. Some are subtle, others not, I guess it just depends how much you absorbed in the 80s and 90s. I got the Ghostbusters one right away. The loading screens are more or less a tribute to Ghosts and Goblin's "map" screen. I'm looking forward to some of the fan analysis that goes down over the game as there were layers upon layers of stuff to pull out of No More Heroes and NMH2.

Shadows of the Damned got me wanting to play RE4 again and catch up with RE5, so I've decided to work my way from RE5 back to RE Zero. Since the Wii got REmake and RE Zero reissues, they're pretty easy to find.

I never did play RE3 to completion, either. So I'll be getting that off PSN with RE2 as I go along.

Skipping Code Veronica, the rail shooters and outbreak, though. I though CV was pretty horrible overall.

RE5 is serviceable as a shooter, but but main campaign really does seem to fail to capture the mood and setting of prior titles, along with being a tad too generous. I like Sheva and she's often helpful (well that and the accent just does it for me), but she's also a bit of a pilferer and steals away from the mood. In many respects she just holds her own a little too well. I never feel I'm in danger and I never really feel she is either.

RE4 really did get everything right. The mood, the pacing, music, setting and you often felt you still were just barely getting by.

This is way different from the world having plenty of ammo and moving from one run-down shack to the next in broad daylight.

The Majini/Las Plagas variants I'm find with, I never understood why people felt it needed to be zombies specifically, but RE5 just fails to make most of them meanacing. Maybe the extra content will change my opinion. Its not a bad game, but its not quite where it should be).

I might play through the RE games again myself, I still ahve my Outbreak File 1/2 wish their was a private server for them, I loved em.

The rail shooters RE:UC and DSC are not so bad, they are a nice change and play really well.

I finished Fear3 (knew that was not going to take long) and now I am playing Zelda OoT3D until I get my next game from Gamefly (no clue what it will be next)

They were both meh.


They did have some interesting little new stories for the new areas, but over all, yeah trash. The first game did a crappy job with the scoring/upgrades (getting criticals was BS) and in the 2nd game the bosses were all scripted, unlike the 1st game where you could simply unload into them and kill 'em outright.

Playing Shogun 2 demo while I wait for XIV. Although I'm very tempted to buy the full game. <_<;

Also playing Bioshock Roy Mustang style.

So having finished RE5 and SotD, I'm back to the point I'm stuck on in Portal 2.

I know as soon as I figure it out I'm going to kick myself, most likely, but then its probably the one chamber that would get anyone.

Got through that one tricky spot. Of course, had there been a puzzle prior that let me know propulsion gel and such worked on turrents, that would have been helpful.

Now to do the co-op stuff...

I mean, playing Shogun 2 right now. No idea how well it fares compared to other games in the genre, but it is awesome and one of those games that cause me to sleep only 3 hours a day while playing them.

The music, the setting, the epic battles, the management, even the english voices for the advisors were very well made*, and they were wise enough to leave Japanese + subs for everything else.

And replays are of good battles are actually fun to watch on this one. Haven't had that much fun watching replays since Ace Frontier.


* This is the part where I would normally whine about crappy english dubs, but fortunately either they got Japanese seiyuus fluent in english, or they got english VAs who actually knew how to pronounce Japanese names (one of my all time major complaints about dubbing) so they work great and give you some very good advice at times.

Silent Hill 2~ :D I didn't realize it had come out for the PC as well. Now I don't have to deal with the backward compatibility issues I heard the Xbox version suffered so much from.

Surprisingly my PC can run it rather well, and since there doesn't seem to be any options to mess with the graphics, I guess I'm all set! Still trying to decide whither I should turn off the noise effect... it does help with the vibe a bit but really makes it hard to notice the little details. Doesn't help I have to play with keyboard as well... so awkward~

I'm up to the hotel part, and finally after dogging me for all these years, I know for sure... Pyramid Head WAS raping those mannequin things! My 13 year old self tried to deny it. I'm pretty sure I recall stating he was just trying to shove them inside the sink. "Hide the evidence!"

And the fact that it's getting new voice actors and dialogue? Meh, I'd rather stick with the original.
