Did some trades and picked up Monster Tale and Rune Factory 3.

Monster Tale is pretty damn awesome. If you're a Metroidvania junkie, this is along the lines of those games. I guess you could say its half Metroid and half Castlevania SOTN familiars, which just a dash of Megaman. Chomp, the sidekick of Ellie, is a monster that levels up and evolves to learn various skills with toys, food, sweets, scrolls, sports equipment and other things Ellie finds. Ellie is more like Samus, learning her skills by finding artifacts and doesn't really level up at all save for getting new health expansions another upgrades, some of which would just be bought like Alucard or Dante would buy them.

Also, while some games get discolored on the 3DS, I guess Dreamrift developed it knowing there would be some desaturation in color, so the color palate of the game was very rich to start with and looks just as good as it would on the regular DS.

Also, Dreamrift is the team that brought us Henry Hatsworth. EA originally was going to publish this, but they backed out and Majesco picked it up. If you like your Metroidvanias, you owe it to yourself to play this.

I'm going back through playing Dragon Age 2 again, this time on mage. I beat it on rogue, which was fun, but mage has been way cool. As mage you can dominate and control battles more, as rogue, i would just back stab x 2 in a row consecutively the strongest opponent on the battle field, kill them quick, then work my way down the ladder.

I'm still paying ffxiv with lnc 48 and all my crafting jobs 20+, but the will to login is not as great as it has been. My LS is huting the NM's on saturday which makes it fun though...

Fun Fact: Lego Pirates of the Caribbean has all the music from the cancelled PotC open-world game that was cancelled a while back, so that's a nice treat.

I'm liking the game overall, but its is a Lego game, so how much you have fun with them largely depends on the flavor of the license applied to the game, I suppose. At least its all consistently good regardless of movie license, though.

Also, Samurai Warriors Chronicle just got its first Spotpass DLC - now if I can just figure out where the hell they put it in my game, that would be great. Apparently this is the first of 21 spotpass DLCs which will happen once every Friday. Yep, 5 months of this. I'm guessing its weapons some weeks and missions on others.

DoA Dimensions is supposed to be going a similar route with character costumes..

              Got DoA Dimensions yesterday.

The presentation is a little quirky - they sometimes use the posable "figurines" or still cutscenes, while others are totally animated and others are full CG. That said, it seems they put everything into the game side because unlike SSFIV, the backgrounds that were animated before are animated in this game, complete with light sourcing and everything.

Going to 3D does take drop the frame rate from 60 to 30, in some cases this works out fine but it feels like on the busier stages that the 3D gets a bit choppy.

It looks damn good either way visually, which is to be expected from Team Ninja so this is the best looking 3DS game out there yet.

The four-button style of DOA makes it really accessible on the DS and similar to SSFIV, it has short cuts that you can poke at, but it seems a bit more cluttered than the route Capcom went with. And you can't filter it out on online matches, which is sort of lame.

What little I played online seemed to be not as good as the setup SSFIV had. I don't know of the netcode is bad or my connection just sucks lately, but I've seldom been able to have a match and got my face beaten in each time I did get a match.

The only problem is you have to search out a new match every time, you can't be challenged while doing arcade mode and you can't push for a rematch when the fight is over.

The game isn't short on features, though. They do the full story of the Dead or Alive series, with one interesting nod to Ryu Haybusa's adventures on the NES and a guest appearance by Irene Lew (though she looks different and sadly is not playable as a fighter, same as Samus whose Easter egg I've yet to uncover). There's plenty to unlock, keep you busy and its probably got the best story mode outside of Dissidia Duodecim.

Well, if you're into stories for fighting games, anyway, its pretty laughable, but a nice gesture that they tried. There is a Japanese language option as expected of the series.

There's also Streetpass and Spotpass getting use here. Unlike the figure battles of SSIV, though, you're throwing down against an AI based on the player you tagged, which is cool. The reward, if you win, is obviously figurines, but its cool to have a temporary ghost battle. The only downer is you can't save those AIs to challenge again. which feels like a missed opportunity. It made me reminisce about Soul Calibur II's Conquest Mode in the arcade and VF4's Kumite mode.

Dunno if it changes my mind about the series in where it stands against fighters, but its certainly not a shabby release. Plus I can battle on that Ridley stage, which is cool.

Messing around with Rules in Dissidia 012. Having Perma exmode is making leveling characters a blast. Terra is stupidly broken, Yuna is a beast and Prishe (who is already 100) actually hits hard. Obviously characters who have "meh" bonuses from exmode don't get as great a benefit, but it is still fun none the less.

Playing Yakuza 4 right now, and I have to say I really like it. Has a great story and the combat is fun.

Also picked up this 4$ game at work before I left today... called "Red Ninja" for PS2... I know nothing about it, no case (it was a 9.99 under game) Have not even plaed it into my PS3 yet but I will tomorrow.

                  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Red Ninja: End of Honor was alright, but obviously not a classic that ever got a sequel. It was more or less trying to beat out Tenchu on the violence and to that end it succeeded, though the camera was terrible and the stealth mechanics not so hot.

Dunno if I remember ever finishing it, but what made the game really unique was the kunochi's weapon was a razor wire that doubled as a grappling hook. It was often used to do hilarious Kill Bill kinds of kills.

It came out in like 2004 and looked like a budget title compared to most what was coming out at the time. They spent practically nothing on NPCs, though the environments were passably pretty.

Was getting bored of anything in my shelf so I picked up Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Collection and The Darkness. $33 dollars in total, and money well spent after buying Brink in full price. *sniff* Still suffering buyer's remorse.

Just finished my first playthrough on inFamous 2 with evil karma, now to go back and do the good karma storyline and pick up more trophies for grins and giggles.

Last week I was slogging my way through Hunted: The Demon's Forge (warning: stay away from this game). Also been spending some of my spare bits of time on a no-vita-chamber Survival run on Bioshock 1 for trophies and fun, and picking my way through some more of the grind in Atelier Rorona: the Alchemist of Arland.

Still need to get to: Mass Effect 2 Arrival DLC, Outland, Motorstorm: Apocalypse.

Arcade cab is almost done as well (at least to a functioning state) my monitor (or really TV) is screwed a little though, the internal degauss is not working right (I think) and the color is distorted in the top right and bottom left -.- Going to head to a TV shop tomorrow to see about a Degauss wand.

Undecided where to start next on my games after Portal 2. Already finished MGS4, but might do another run on it later on a harder difficulty. Amazing I got through three years without that one being spoiled for me.

Portal 2 is just the kind of game I needed after downing almost four Zelda games. Its a different kind of dungeon puzzler, but I haven't been stumped yet. Speed gel puzzles were the closed that came to stalling my so far, but not for long

I still need to finish Ganon's Tower in LTTP so I can make that fourth zelda completion this year official. I've just been procrastinating on that one, but I need to finish so I can move on to Link's Awakening and OOT3D. Shame Master Quest only opens after you beat the original quest in OOT3D, but what can you do?

Started DA:O, Demon's Souls and FFXIII. Dunno where to start. All I do know is that in FFXIII Vanille is one of the most socially awkward characters I've ever seen. At least that's better than Heavy Rain, though, as every character I encountered in the demo was socially awkward. Someone needs to expose David Cage to other, real people to see how they think and speak.

IN DA:O I don't know if I ever want to take Allistar, Morrigan and the dog out of my party. There's enough bickering between them to keep things interesting for a while. Now I am on a quest to slay darkspawn after seeing my arranged marriage fall out and I killed the arl's son.

That and I steal from everyone.

It was nice I got all that content from Ultimate Edition both used and free. I'm not a fan of EAs "Buy new or else" approach, though they seem to at least have gotten their priorities straight with that idea on Alice: Madness Returns. The bonus is American McGee's Alice. Buy new game new, get old game free with online pass. This is how you do it, EA, not cutting content from new games.

Morrigan and Sten have some interesting conversations as well, since Sten is completely stuffy and Morrigan isn't.

I think you're a little late on the Demon's Souls boat. The game had a lot more co-op and invasions going on back when it was new. Now, you're not likely to see a soul sign or have somebody invade your game. Those were some of the defining experiences.
