Just finished getting 100% completion on Metroid: Other M.

Aside from a few small complaints and a rather weird plot hole, Team Ninja did a fantastic job and I'd love to see them do the next one.

Just finished Vanquish and Castlevania: The Lords of Shadow


Vanquish was pretty awesome, though I'm still thoroughly pissed that I'll never get that last Achievement, sitting at 49/50. Challenge #6 is just too much, Mikami seriously went overboard with that one. The game's ending leaves it open to a sequel though so hopefully the sequel will be better. They need to tweak how you upgrade your weapons, and maybe toss in some suit upgrades. I wouldn't buy it, but it's a definite must-rent. Consistent, high-octane action from start to finish, if you can tolerate the horrible script & one liners.


As for Castlevania, dude what the FUCK ? That's all I have to say about that game now that I've seen the ending. It really was little more than a GoW & Dante's Inferno rip off set in Medieval Europe, right down to the plot with a post-credits twist ending that no doubt was Kojima's work. I enjoyed it, but that extra ending really just ruined it for me. Next time guys, stick to what works.

Outside of Goldeneye, I'm kinda unfocused. I'm almost done with the main campaign on Normal difficulty there. They keep and update some of the highlights from the original game, but it often goes its own way as well.

I picked up Ys: The Oath of Fhelgana (its the Ys III: Wanderers of Ys remake that was previously on PC) but haven't really finished my Persona 3 Portable outing yet, so that's put off til later. And for some reason, I've fallen into replaying Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, so its between that and P3P.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is mostly what I'm doing on DS right now before I get back to EOIII. I'm tempted to pick up the Lufia II remake this week, but I'll probably hold off on that so I can preorder DKCR and Epic Mickey.

Ugh rumor has it they're making a sequel to Lords of Shadow, and it's gonna include Simon & Alucard... what the crap? First of all, I was under the assumption that LoS was an alternate timeline/reboot as while there are many references to LoI and a few towards the other games, the events and circumstances in LoS conflict too much with virtually the rest of the series in it's entirety.

So, assuming they do go through with this, it won't be the same Simon & Alucard we know. Personally I think they're better off just dropping it and moving on to something else. I'm actually extremely disappointed in Kojima for involving himself in such a lackluster project in the first place, Sir Patrick Stewart too - I swear he was the one saving grace in that entire crapshoot.

Seriously Konami, either stick to the 2D titles, or at least try to stay within the framework of LoI. LoI didn't sell well true, but it was a good game and got very high reviews despite the low sales figures. Even Curse of Darkness wasn't all that bad. The thing was, both games actually felt like Castlevania. LoS was just God of War with Dante's Inferno's plot and a Medieval Europe setting and the people defending it just make me cringe. A ridiculous, poorly contrived plot, horribly bad platforming, and uninspiring (and sometimes glitchy/cheap) combat just make for a bad game I'm sorry. I was able to put up with it right up until the final chapter, and looking back on it I shouldn't even have tolerated it that far. No, Stewart's amazing voice work aside, the only really impressive aspect of the game was the scenery - did they ever do a phenomenal job with the artwork. Especially in Chapters 4~8 when you venture into the land of the Vampires, some of the backgrounds were breathtaking. Too bad it all went to waste on such a lackluster game.

I'm all for trying to reinvent Castlevania in a new way since the series is old enough now to warrant it, but at least do it right guys. SotN, LoI, AoS (I think AoS was first, right? Dawn was the 2nd?) and OoE are still the best games in the series and there's gotta be elements/lessons that can be gleaned from them. The 2D games still have had the most solid and fun gameplay while the two 3D games (anyone who liked the N64 games needs to get their head examined) excelled at story telling. CoD wasn't as interesting as LoI plotwise, but both games did a pretty good job flushing out their respective plots. Lament of Innocence is also one of the best themes in the series IMO, right up there with Vampire Killer & Bloody Tears.

Lol okay this is turning into a very long rant so I'll make this my last point... there wasn't even any great music in LoS. In the music box level you got a silly rendition of Vampire Killer, and Stewart references bloody tears before the fight with Carmilla but otherwise there just weren't any really memorable tunes this time around. I'll have to look at the credits on IMDB or something but I don't think they got either Michiru Yamane or Yasunori Mitsuda to do the sound track which is a huge blunder. Nope, was a guy named Óscar Araujo.

I'm 4 hours into Assassin's Creed 2. This game is legit, really good so far and tons to do. Much improved over AC1. Can't wait to power through this so I can pick up AC: Brotherhood.

Just finished God of War 3, fucking loved it.

Except for a few glitches & the ending, it was amazing. Such a relief from that PoS Castlevania lol. But I really have to wonder how the hell Santa Monica let such a horrible double jump glitch slip past them. I must have died at least 20 times trying to cross several chasms because the stupid double jump would not work. The challenges kinda pissed me off too to the point where I just decided to bring it back today rather than stress myself over it lol. But the plot was good, combat was fun etc etc.

I just think the post-credits ending was pretty stupid. I mean come on, I thought this was supposed to be the ending, but they've gone and opened the door for God of War 4 (not giving any spoilers, see it for yourselves just saying it's dumb)

Mostly Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Galaxy 2, Goldeneye and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin right now. I've worked the PSP really hard these last few months, so its getting a little break - though I did by Ys III: Oath of Felghana recently. I got a huuuuge DS backlog to catch up on, so aside from Persona 3 Portable, I'll let the PSP games stack up for now, I think.

Found out one of the hooks to secret areas in DKCR. Get KONG in each level of a particular zone and a Temple opens up. I've heard there's a special world that opens up if you complete a particular objective. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess these temples are the key.

I've unlocked three temples, I'm going to work on them (and get a nap) between my two shifts at work tomorrow. Fricking midnight Black Friday openings.

Three hours til I go back to work.

Most of the interest on motion control has been Kinect and Wii. In my first five hours I had zero customers ask about Playstation Move. The power of Oprah seems to be the reason there. Well, that and Kinect actually does have the killer app in Dance Central. We ran out of Kinect cameras and Kinect bundles.

Red Wiis probably ran out a couple hours after I left, I'm sure we're more or less depleted of 360s as well. DSi was still doing surprisingly well, in fact, the DS section was the first to become highly disorganized and people just putting shit back whereever they felt like it. PSP section is still more or less as pristine-looking as it started out. Lots of people were down for the LBP PSP bundle, though, sold out of that.

NSMB Wii, Just Dance 1/2, Donkey Kong Country Returns and the usual Nintendo first party stuff did well. Halo: Reach and Fallout New Vegas also hit big. And then no one asked about PS3 stuff unless it was some crap like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. DS it was all over the map, but Pokemon, Mario and Super Scribblenauts did well. PSP I couldn't say, as no gaping holes were left in the section.

I guess its semi-official that my area is Wii360 country.
