And since there isn't a "remake" or a "port" of FFVII, you can not say you can't compare them. FFVII could be ported over with cool new cut scenes or it could be overhauled but since there isn't one to compare the point is moot. There have been FF's redone for other systems before so it is not far fetched to see it happen again.

I would simply like to see it remade because then maybe I would actually like the game more. I did not like the look of the characters and the poor lighting effects of the ps version. Frankly, the game is down quite far on my list but there are MANY people who are huge fans so it would be in SE's best interest to do a remake...well interest = pocketbook! LOL

right no they dont need to remake it..they milked FF enough..I want to see new games and new FF or remakes of their OLDer games...they need to give FFVII a break..

That is also my stance. Remakes are a very touchy subject for me because it's very hard to completely remake a game from the ground up and retain a lot of what made the originals so appealing. There are many different examples of succesful remakes, whether they're simple graphical tweaks to major changes in the game. Recently Capcom has done some service to Mega Man fans, and Maverick Hunter X proved to be an excellent remake of the original Mega Man X game because it not only provided an excellent transition from sprites to 3D models, but because the Mega Man series has remained fairly untouched throughout history, Capcom was able to create a very faithful remake that kept the heart and soul of the 1993 side-scroller intact, and they seem to be doing the same (albeit adding much more content) with the highly anticipated Mega Man Powered Up!, the remake of the original Mega Man game.

With those examples in mind, it's hard to see how a Final Fantasy VII remake will turn out. The style of the games have changed drastically since the Playstation era, and Final Fantasy VII was a turning point in the series not just because of the transition to 3D characters and battles, but because of where Square's most important writers and designers found themselves in comparison to others. With the SNES era drawn to a close, the sense that games were for kids still lingered, and Final Fantasy VII was one of the many games that provided a brooding, serious tone to move the games industry in a much different direction. However, the graphical style, limited obviously not by technology but by experience working in 3D, enabled the game's writers to counteract the dark, emotionally deep themes and events with humorous quirks that simply would not work today. A Final Fantasy VII for Playstation 3 remake would, in a sense, be much too photo-realistic in its style to retain a lot of what kept gamers sane when experiencing the troubled and tragic life of Cloud Strife. While Advent Children has proven that we can still have plenty of comic relief thanks to characters like Reno and Rude, the original game's wackiness in some scenarios would most likely be completely lost, and would be a prime example of why the original game is too far off in history to be remade completely and keep a lot of its spirit and appeal alive.

And yes, I'm kinda going off on a tangent. It just seems that a lot of people are sick of the way Final Fantasy has become somewhat overly-dramatic, and losing that particular essence of one of the darkest and emotional games in the series could spell trouble for veterans of the series, who are most likely the main target for what would be a Final Fantasy VII remake. That's not to say it shouldn't be remade at all. That's just one example of why I feel that games caught in that awkward transition phase between the Nintendo era and the Playstation era are definitely among the toughest to accurately remake, and I feel that the game is simply not old enough to warrant a remake.

It's what Kitase said, He said that if a FFVII remake project was to ever go into developement, he'd want Nomura to take the role as lead director. That's already a major change so the original FFVII we know and love was directed by Kitase himself. The directorial vision of That game(the classic) was his. Now, putting Nomura in that role would mean we'll see the game through Nomura's eyes. It will be Nomura's version of FFVII. Scenes will play out differently. No, they won't be the same.

I think it only should remade, when FFVII is milked like crazy. maybe in 2011- 2015 or something..Not right now. I ramake should only be remaked, when you dont hear about it much..FFVII that isnt the case..

I hope XII will be the FFVII killer, new gamers and ppl that hate FF i talked to, are looking into getting it. I think XII will be the best..I got the demo(with DQVIII) the first day. and been playing the demo ever sense..

and if XII dont kill VII, I know XIII will

If the Famitsu review is any indication, Final Fantasy XII will be the most succesful one yet, at least in Japan.

indeed thats one reason FFXII will own..I love Famitsu, I love their review on DoC
but yea, I knew FFXII would be hit before they reviewed it..
