Ugh, I despise that article. Nowhere does his interpreter say that Nomura-san has an FFVII remake planned.

Through his interpreter, Nomura merely states that he'd like to if he had the time, but he is currently too busy with other projects.

In the Kingdom Hearts 2 Ultimania book, Nomura states that he's decided to take a break from Kingdom Hearts. While he does reveal that he is currently working on a large-scale next-gen project, both he and other Square Enix employees have stated in the past that the company has no current plans to develop a Final Fantasy VII remake.

And besides, if Nomura is tired of Kingdom Hearts after making only three titles since 2002, he's probably even more tired of Final Fantasy VII after four massive Compilation projects in under two years.

Youichi Wada stated very clearly last year at E3 that Square Enix is not working on an FFVII remake. That should have been enough to stop people from thinking so. If SE was really planning a remake for PS3, Sony definitely would have wanted them to say so as early as possible.

but /cheers for potential ff7 remake ^^ though from their history, they might just improve on the old and release it instead of complete revamp. But if they did revamp ff7, I'd buy it

Just hopefully they dont change the old engine of the game, and if they did make 'additions' that the additions were 'optional'. I know that ffx-2 was an experiment but I loved ffx and the 'sequel' just didnt jive at all with the original imo.

Nomura would like to work on a sequel. Nomura has pull. 15 million + fans would like a sequel. 15 million + fans have $ to spend. SE likes to make $$$. A FFVII sequel that Nomura would work on + 15 million plus rabid fans = $$$$ for SE...see a pattern? It's bound to happen no matter what Wada said. It wouldn't be the first time that a company said one thing and did another.

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

If I recall correctly, Yoshinori Kitase at E3 revealed that he was directing the "next Final Fantasy game" for the PS3, which is undoubtably Final Fantasy XIII. Tetsuya Nomura says that he's currently working on a next-gen title, most likely targeted for the PS3. If Nomura is directing this title, then it probably cannot be Final Fantasy XIII. However, he may just be working under Kitase with character designs, as he did for Final Fantasy VII and X.

I personally think there is a large chance Final Fantasy XIII is going to be unveiled at E3 of this year. If it is, and if Tetsuya Nomura is not working on it under Kitase, then that should give us some insight as to the nature of this next-gen project Nomura is working on. However, I think there is a high chance that Nomura is working on FFXIII. If Kitase is indeed directing or even producing it, then it's most likely that he's chosen Nomura for his character designer. The two make a very successful team, as you can see from the popularity of FFVII and FFX.

I'm still waiting for a proper translation of the article in KH2 Ultimania, but the terrible mention about it at themagicbox stated something barely readable about the number "13." Something completely random about Kadaj being on the 13th floor of a building, and about the XIII Organization from Kingdom Hearts 2. They're most likely hints that Nomura is indeed working on Final Fantasy XIII. My dream? I'd like to see him in the director's chair. I'm personally sick of his character designs and after seeing Advent Children, I'd really love to play a Final Fantasy game directed by him.



EDIT: kh2.co.uk has a complete translation of the KH2 Ultimania interview with Tetsuya Nomura. (SPOILERS ABOUND). Nomura says that the title of his next game is "hidden in Advent Children," and that he has already "decided on the main character." Take that as you well, but I personally believe it denounces any belief that a Final Fantasy VII remake is being developed by Tetsuya Nomura, the only man Square Enix says would make such a thing.

And if you're interested, Nomura says that while he has some ideas for the story of a sequel to Kingdom Hearts II, he does not have any plans to make one unless there is enough demand for a sequel. He says that if he does make a sequel, expect to see it around the middle of the Playstation 3's lifecycle. However, he claims he doesn't even know when that will be!

Well as far as E3 this year, I think there might be a hint at FFXIII but not more than a tech demo. I think that they might do a short trailer of some sort to get tongues wagging. The big wow will be KH2 and FFXII. With such a long wait for a release in the states for FXII, they'll be pumping that for all its worth.

They should also be touting FE at the show. I don't think it will be a big display but if they are going to release here in the states ever, they need to start pumping up interest. As it is now, there are few that have even heard of it or if they have they've forgotten about it since info on it is few and far between.

But what I want to see at E3 is more on this next gen FF MMO. Please please please please, even if its FAR from being done give me just a little more.....just a little..../sniff /sniff

Square Enix said that they wouldn't be remaking any games that can't be played on the current-gen console. Basically, as long as the Playstation is backwards compatible, there won't be a remake.

FFVII doesn't need a remake, nor does it deserve one. Fanboys should just shut up, and play the new games instead of wanting a remake of the 'best game ever' as some great once said

FFVII- was a great game for the PS. but to take a good game and milk it for everything that it. blah!

Did you know FFVII:AC-2 the movie could be about ''A dog and cat trying to take over the world and Cloud and party try to stop them..and AC-2 would still sell 1 million... Go play FFIV or the others give FFVII a break..

It's what Kitase said, He said that if a FFVII remake project was to ever go into developement, he'd want Nomura to take the role as lead director. That's already a major change so the original FFVII we know and love was directed by Kitase himself. The directorial vision of That game(the classic) was his. Now, putting Nomura in that role would mean we'll see the game through Nomura's eyes. It will be Nomura's version of FFVII. Scenes will play out differently. No, they won't be the same.

now to you TifaXCloud fans.. Do you want it now?..Nomura likes AerithXCloud..So he may add something to prove that even more.. Would you want that to happen?

Its an interesting concept and one I would greatly like to see happen. I don't think the re-make (if it will happen or should i say possibly when) will not be a carbon copy of the original FFVII we all love. Though with the mention of a hidden agenda in FF advent children, if a new FF based on teh story line of FFVII was to be made, I'd think it would be to a different perspective. The mention of aeries and Cloud, you may recall (spoiler for those that havn't seen it) in FFVIIAC near the end you see her in ghost form (and sexy too ) with Zak, could she be part of it, does Sephimorth return? Or is there something bigger that happens? will the weapons ever go back to sleep? Are the turks goign to stay nice or will a new president appear? The guys who worshiped Sephimorth in FFVII advent children, what happens to them?

Speculation i know, but there are so many un-answered questions from the film FFVIIAC.... and mentions in above psots about refering to the film does make you wonder....

Ya ya ya, I can't count how many times companies have said no, no, no and then suddenly "TA DA!! Fooled you! We did do it/added to it/redid it/decided not to do it....!" Money is a huge pull to any company and very hard to overcome. A remake of FFVII would pull in new gamers, sell systems, sell toys-figures-tees-books-etc. and make them very happy. The chances of a remake are much greater than one never being done.

This is what I got from the interview. It seems that there isn't enough interest here to remake FFVII. Instead, what I got from it, is to continue the storyline. FFX and FFX-2 should be proof enough (However, it's only because FFX didn't have the "fairy tale" ending that fans were upset about)

FFVII:DoC is proof enough that they won't plan to "remake" FFVII. A masterpiece is a masterpiece. No need to redo anything. None of the other FF games have ever been redone before. I don't see this happening at all.

None of the other FF games have ever been redone before.

PS: FF 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6

Well, those aren't really full remakes.

On the Playstation, they were pretty much ports of the Wonderswan updates (which pretty much just featured higher quality sprites and background), and the GBA versions were pretty much just ports of those, except for Tactics, as it was a complete sequel.

With the exception of Final Fantasy III, which is due out for the Nintendo DS this year, no Final Fantasy game has been so completely remade and repolished in the way that we would expect a Final Fantasy VII remake to be.

It hasn't been done before, so I think it would be a surprise indeed to see Square Enix do it.

However, the fact of the matter is that Square Enix still denies that a Final Fantasy VII remake is currently not in production or even planning at this point, and for them to begin from the get-go would most likely mean that we would not see it until the end of this new console generation, or even by the time the Playstation 4 rolls around. Granted, they pretty much have all the scenarios and script worked out, but these games still take a very, very long time.

I think we'll know for sure by E3 in two months. However, I think Square Enix's biggest focuses for the next few years will be Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX.

Wasn't there a Final Fantasy Chronicles where it included part 3 and part 6 together? and also one that included chrono trigger and final fantasy 2 together? Didn't they actually include additional CG full motion video's in Final Fantasy Chronicles for part 6?

Wouldn't that count as a remake? or is that just a Port?

Those games are just ports. There wasn't even anything major that they changed in the storyline, other than to enhance them with cutscenes (SE's marketing term, not mine) However, the graphics didn't even get any major overhaul and even most reviews I've seen of their "remakes" had disclaimers to the effect of "if you're not an SE fan or over 25 years of age, don't bother playing these classics."

And yeah, I reiterate the word classic since the game system and play first was introduced before some of these forum attendees were even born and I haven't seen any changes to them in their reincarnations either.

A remake wouldn't make SE any money. Of course, you're welcome to go to this thread on GA and make your rebuttals there. Apparently, FFXIII is already in the pipes for PS3 and no, it's not fast on the heels of FFXII since FFXII was a horribly delayed affair, no doubt due to the massive amounts of "side projects" that their incompetant people thought of.

Final Fantasy Origins includes the Wonderswan Color updates of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II, with FMV sequences added in.

Final Fantasy Chronicles includes the original SNES version of Final Fantasy IV and Chrono
Trigger, with FMV and anime sequences added.

Final Fantasy Anthology includes the original SNES versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI, with FMV sequences added in.

Final Fantasy III has never been re-released since the original NES version, and never outside of Japan. (But will be on the Nintendo DS)

But in the end, yes, they are just ports. Outside of the graphical updates given to the first two titles when they were brought to the Wonderswan Color system, nothing was done to the games other than updated translations.
