That really does look like a stepping stone for the next generation of community based games. My only hesitation is the the droves of conniving assholes who may try to build the most aggressive dominent race possible to wipe out everyone who is just trying to play the game.

this game reminds me of Search for Eden for the SNES, where you had to go through the eras, evolving from species to species

The game reminds me of Seaman for Dreamcast. I totally LOVED that game! That fish was so funny and sarcastic. But Spore is much more involved and will have a lot more playtime with the online component. But if you still have a DC, I really recommend getting Seaman for some fun!

Some time next year.
I found out about that game on IGN and I've wanted it since I heard about it. It sounds and looks Increadible!
