A good point, Kuu. Although it isn't performing as splendidly as they had hoped, the PSP launched with a retail price well below all analyst speculation. And to be honest, I'm more shocked about how much they were able to fit in that thing compared to what they're doing with the PS3.

I wouldn't say it's "official" that PS3 is launching in the spring for sure. It is, official, however, that Sony is still planning on a Spring launch, most likely only in Japan with a US release to follow a few months later and a European launch more than likely in early 2007.

Ah...waiting until the last minute, it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy hearing those words. They may very well be on schedule, but those words definately don't inspire confidence. Seems like you always run into one last problem just when you thought everything was done. And the closer to the deadline the more major the problem.

Well I think that's the advantage Sony has. They aren't fit to a schedule like Microsoft forced themselves to be. Sony can sell at any time of the year and they will sell whatever they supply. If Sony is so sure about launching in the Spring, then there's no doubt that, if there is a delay, they'll be ready for a Holiday release. They don't need that, though. Rumours of a September launch in America sound quite likely for that reason.

As I said it's not a big deal.

The DRM is most likely going to be a firmware issue, and easily updated through the network.

The hardware specs are set in stone. They can make it and update it.

Nice catch on the "cover rear" quote on the PR guy. It's always easier to release a 1.1 rather then 1.0 and then imediately 1.1 everything, but playing with numbers is always a thing in business.

Basically, production is not halted.

Also the fact that the DRM specs do nothing to BR games, only BR movies.

Well, that's a given. Microsoft may be recovering, but they've made far too many mistakes already to ensure control of the market in this generation. An early start turned out to be terrible publicity and not much of an early start at all, a complete lack of true support for Backwards Compatibility, and a staggered flow of quality titles hasn't been too good for the Xbox 360 so far. It shocks me that Moore has been quoted to say that the original Xbox "didn't matter," and the Xbox 360 is the one that matters. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they say the same thing next generation. That mentality isn't a very good thing to share with your fans.

Honestly, I'd say that Nintendo's a bigger competitor with Sony than Microsoft is. The DS proved that Nintendo has plenty of fight in them to stand up against the Playstation brand name, and I think that their incredible innovation with the Revolution can continue to do so in the next console generation.

Despite Nintendo's surefire approach to innovation and targeting of the "non-gamer" crowd, Sony has enough momentum from the PS2 domination and sheer developer support to ensure a quick and easy victory over the Xbox 360, the Revolution, and the Phantom. But, the Phantom will probably crash and burn the moment it makes it to retail, if it does at all.

Nintendo will never be counted out until they stop making to very important lines of games: Zelda and Metroid. For those two reasons alone, myself and many other fans will continue to pay whatever they ask for their next-gen consoles so long as they continue making those two games.
Btw, whats the Phantom? Haven't heard anything about it, is Sega back in fray?

The Phantom is a new type of home console being developed by the obviously inexperienced "Infinium Labs, inc."

It has no media format, every game you play will be downloaded from the "Phantom Game Service."

So far they have not announced any known developer support, technical specs, or release date.

Sony won't sell the PS3 more than $400.. price is a strong factor that affects how a console sells...

There's no way it will be under 500. I mean if Sega Saturn retailed at over 400 at launch, PS3 has -reason- to.

Me? I couldn't be happier with PS3's delay. Gives me more time to finish up the life of PS2. Adjust with my 360. Let my wallet chill a bit, snag revolution. Then, then buy the big kahuna which will no way be under 500 lol.

Didn't the Saturn launch at $600? A dual-processor game console at that time must have been more expensive than $400.

Sony's already stated in Famitsu that the PS3 will retail for $399 or less. Whether they stick to that or not, I'm sure it'll be close.

Doesn't mean sony can't BS at the last minute, but they have deined Meryl as full of crap on '07.

"Major Delay on the Playstation 3 Console", was on World News. They didn't mention anything of '07, nor anything with spring. But they did say it would not be -this- spring.

Yes, but "PS3 is still on track for spring release" was Sony's response to those rumours. Only Sony knows whether or not it will be delayed right now. Anything else is purely speculation.

Most believe that it will be a staggered launch. If there are even rumours of a delay, chances are Sony isn't focusing on a worldwide launch. Microsoft already proved that no matter how much you may want to launch worldwide, it can't be done successfully.

Wow, I hadn't heard that. I'd been hearing 500+ for a while. Thats good news.
As for the Phantom, lol, well it just looks like a joke. Want a video game? Well this time tomorrow you may just be done d/l'ing one from us. Then you'll be kicking yourself for spending money on this console as well as the game for the rest of your life. They're kinda screwed either way they go. If the specs kick ass then it will take longer to d/l a game, if the games go faster, then they won't be as high tech.
Yeah Nodachi, as we understand it, Japan gets first dibs on it, then us, then Europe.
