Sony's still so adamant about a Spring launch, and have even been telling American press such a thing. They seem so hellbent on getting it out in the spring that I wouldn't be surprised if it did make it.

That would be nice, though I hope they don't have the problems xbox did by not being flexible. Funny thing though, last time I asked someone at gamespot about it, they told me middle of next year.

Re: More PS3 Rumors?? Interesting none the less!

I've read spring in a number of magazines. However, they've always followed that up by saying that Spring could be Japan, and then North America in November, then spring the following year in Europe and other areas.

But I keep asking as well. The way I got a PS2 Day 1 was because I had it paid off 4 months in advance. I know the pre-orders for PS2, Gamecube, & Xbox opened the eyes of a lot of retailers and changed how they did pre-orders, but I would like to think they would already be doing pre-orders for PS3 .:NOW:. if it was coming out this Spring.

I've set aside $500 for PS3 already, so I can drop it day one of pre-orders. I want to make sure it's paid off, and my odds of Day 1 delivery are high. (I think I spent just over $400 for PS2 launch. Extra controller and 3-4 games I ~think~.)

If they suspect it will be out this spring or summer, but its still sketchy, then they may be afraid of what happened with Halo2. Stores were reservingit for May, then July, then August, then October, and finally for whenever it came out. People had money down on it for nearly a year before they got it. I also seem to remember hearing that they were going to do worldwide (or atleast NA and JP, sorry EU's I can't remember specifics) simultaneously. I think the reason for it was the BD capability. Japan would sell huge for the games, and you'd get a lot of BD early adopters here in the States that don't want to plunk down 1.5k for a BD player.

The stores by me started taking PS3 orders day after xbox 360 launch...

Wow, lot of that in the article seems to suggest the PS3 with have Wake-On LAN and Remote Access capabilities. As sweet as those functions are on computers they are also a bit risky, hopefully the system is secure enough to support this without any trouble.

Considering though that the PSP and it's recent updates, it has proven to be really secure. Secure enough that mods to it seem to get harder and harder to acomplish. So I guess Sony could possibly have it secure enough to not worry about that.

Eh... pretty neat. I hope you don't mind my dissectioning.

I was hoping for that. I think all of us were.

                - PS3 will be a DVR (Digital Video Recorder)
Go Sony! We won't have to pay for a DVR if we ever want one!

                - It will be able to connect with the PSP
                We already knew that.

                - There are a lot of games being worked on for it right now in the US (a lot more then what people know about)
Of course, the major developers haven't once shyed away from the PS3. Only the third-rates who don't even make worthy games have.

                - The final PS3 dev kit is a lot faster than they thought (according to the developer)
                No comment there.

                - The PS3 will have an iTunes type service to let you download Hi-Def movies, music, etc
                It better be free damnit!

                - The PS3 will take the media center functionality the 360 has even further
Well, Sony is a god in the entertainment business. I wouldn't expect any less at this point.

                - PS3 will serve as a location free player for the PSP, means you can watch the DVD’s that you have in your PS3 on your PSP (from anywhere in the world), or any other video files you have on your ps3, though this is still only being planned.
I don't have a PSP yet anyways, but that's still cool.

                - PS3 will be able to send its files straight to the PSP from anywhere in the world, and it can also control its DVR functionalities
Sony must be into Wireless Networking...

                - Firmware updates will add more functionality, much like with the PSP
                Let's hope so.

                - The Blu-ray Player functionality doesn't cost as much as a stand alone player because the Cell and RSX can take care of a lot of the stuff the PS3 will need to do to be able to read the disks
And the PS3 will be able to access more features on a blu-ray disc than a regular Blu-Disc reader will be able to due to the said processing above.

                - Fall release date for PS3, no release date for online service, but expected to launch with the system
The PS3 is expected to launch Q1-2006 in Japan. So, it is a possible Q3-2006 launch in America. But yeah, should not launch no later than Q4.

                - All these new features makes a PSP worth buying… together with a PS3. ;-)

As you can see, there are quite some strange icons we’ve never seen before in the photo of the PSP, a glimpse of the next firmware?

I'll still not buy a PSP for a while, not until the price falls or I get a job.

Maybe the system can go into standby mode (like the ps2 does), and the PSP will be able to remotely wake it up and put it back to sleep? I don't know if that's technically possible, but that's just a guess - and I think would be better than leaving it running all of the time.
It is quite well possible. Do a search for Wake-On LAN and Remote Access Service.

I have to agree it will have to be secure if it does feature Wake-On Lan and Remote Access Service.

Lastly, as for the price-tag, I've always been seeing the PS3 being no lower than $500, and that's if we're lucky.

My TV has this neat function that displays the FPS of my AV input. FFXI runs 28 FPS when I'm alone in like... my mog house, and around 15 in places in jeuno. Makes me get close to vomiting sometimes cuz my eyes start to hurt.

Well the 28 FPS is normal, the 15 FPS is not a surprise considering how busy Jeuno usually is.

Draco Dagon, the iTunes like feature is very unlikely to be free. The whole iTunes design is to marry the internets power with the industry in that the consumer can go by payment options for songs or artists they love while those songs/artist can still make a profit from it.

It is likely they will charge fee's something similar to what PPV and iTunes does. My guess is something like $3.00 for a NQ movie, $6.00 for HD, and your choice of like $0.59 per song or $10.00 for the Album.

Yeah, I know. But there's no way I'll pay for a service when I can save much more buying the CDs/DVDs, burn them, and return the originals for something else or sell them to the pawn shop. (All you pay thereafter is between $0.50 and $1.00 on average per CD/DVD and get as many as 20 tracks permantly.)
